Starting 11/9/11 roughly 3% of the Epic 4g's will start to receive the official OTA update to Gingerbread EI22. From there for the next 8 days it will continue to roll out and increase in saturation until its at 100% of devices as long as there isn't any major roadblocks. ** YOU MUST BE STOCK FROYO EC05/NOT ROOTED. MAKE SURE ALL YOUR PHONE/CALENDAR/CONTACTS ARE SYNCED BEFORE INSTALLING.

4. Boot into stock recovery (Press and Hold Volume Down+Camera+Power)
4a. You navigate stock recovery using your volume up/down and make selections with the HOME key.
5. apply update.zip
6. Boot into Gingerbread!
[TIP]
**** BOOT LOOPING AFTER INSTALLATION ****

I think I'll wait before I change over, until my fave mods/patches are ported over and an Odin-able file..

when will upgraded to an ICS?
just as usual, the epic 4g get the update first,
then i hope the verizon fascinate will be upgraded

Oh wow, it is actually here!? I sure hope they will not pull this one like they did with eb13? I tink it was? Anyway, very excited :) I do like the sfr and cm7 though, can't wait!

Maybe somebody can get Galaxy Tuner working on Gingerbread. I love that app and it's the only reason I'd go back to SFR 1.2 I also hope they fixed the GPS issue too. Well, I'll be gng back to stock just to experience getting the upgrade.

i'm waiting to see if anyone here got the update and if there are any issues. Every GB update so far seems to come with a trainload of issues, hopefully the wait is worth it and it's smooth.

This might be wishful thinking, but could Gingerbread make it easier to get Kies Air on the Epic, like what's on the Epic Touch? :)

Hurray! Finally here... now that my phone is starting to break. :( The ear peice has no sound so I have to switch to speaker phone, which only lets people hear me speradically. Go sprint!

use TEP to get it fixed.

I refuse to think someone with a 600 dollar computer they carry around in their pocket doesn't have some sort of insurance on it.

I just got a pop up on my rooted Epic running 2.2. I went ahead and installed it. It rebooted and has been stuck on the screen that says "SAMSUNG" for about 30 minutes now.... I am not sure if it is downloading GB in the background. Maybe I shouldn't have installed in since I am rooted. I figured since I was rooted, I wouldn't get the update. I will post an update if something happens on mine.

Something has obviously gone wrong with the install if you've been stuck on Sammy screen for that long...

[TIP]
Those looking to grab the OTA update and want to attempt to help find the direct download link.. Grab logcat from the Market and let it run, once you receive the OTA update notice we can look at the log cat report and find the direct download link to the update.zip.

You would be looking for a google.com/xxxxxxxupdate.zip address in the log cat... Thats the golden ticket for everyone to grab the manual download to update!

Looks like a hard reset is in my future.... I will probably ODIN back to stick EC05 and then do the over the air update. However, I'm at work and can't access the download sites for EC05 / ODIN, so I will have to wait until I get home.

Paul too bad you dont have the Epic no more im sure you couldve done something so the rest of us could have GB without havin to wait for push notification.
