[EI22][GINGERBREAD][EPIC 4G] Official Gingerbread Thread

Was the wait worth it now that you running official Gingerbread??

This may be the wrong thread, but is anyone (Paul) working on a battery percentage mod for EI22?

I'm sure within a few days someone will have something out... I normally would throw one out myself but I have switched all my stuff over to developing on the NS4G now.

Same thing just happened to me. I manually updated last night and just got the update notice OTA. I of course declined.

No big deal.. Your updated, all is good.

I got the update notice from Sprint too, but it said that the update would be rolled out in the near future. The notice I got didn't say the update was ready to download yet. I assume this went out to everyone with the Epic? And it will probably check to see if your software is up to date before it downloads an unnecessary upgrade when it does roll out, right?
Yes I can understand getting a notice about the OTA update information. I think we received the same for Froyo EB13/EC05 and then soon afterward you got the actual OTA.

It is sad to see you not developing for the Epic, but I understand the frustrations you were having with your replacements. Thank you for all your help and continued knowledge in the Epic World Paul!!!

Looks like they did. I just have Swipe and Samsung keyboards. No biggie for me as I use another keyboard, Thumb Keyboard.

I was expecting one of the major improvements with Gingerbread would be the Gingerbread keyboard. But like you, I don't see it. If I deselect Swype and Samsung keyboards in Text settings, I get no virtual keyboard at all. I assume this is a bug? I used the update.zip method.

Nope, it shouldn't.

Good, I'll let my mother's phone get the OTA update then I'll root it and remove the bloatware, actually remove more than I did on mine, she doesn't want the NASCAR app. ;)

I didn't root FroYo on it because I was expecting GB to drop shortly... that was May 2011 when we got the Epics. Mom's upgrade to GB should hopefully go smoother than mine, which I why I did mine the day after the release.

So far so good on both my wife and my epic. Seems faster...only time will tell on battery life. Very smooth and easy install thanx to this thread and others. Thanx!

installed EI22 via Odin_1.85, then rooted......24 hrs later am receiving the update OTA, and have deflected it for the moment (2 options: install or install later).......now i am searching for a way to NOT dl the update......elsewhere i read that even if you wanted to, the update will not work on a rooted device, also, i do not want to necessarily uninstall the updates apk either.......any thoughts?

I was prompted to download the update but I had to charge the phone first. So I went back to the office, plugged it in, and now I cant find out where the update is? My phone says my software is up to date. Help? I want to update OTA.

Thanks

Same boat. Would rather not do it manually this time.

Any idea how to force the OTA to come back? Checking phone settings says it's up to date.

Figured it out in case anyone else is trying to figure this out.

Go to Applications -> Sprint Zone

Then click the menu button and select notifications.

Under notifications you should see "Software Update for your phone: Samsung Epig 4G software update now available."

Click on that and it will give you all the info about the update.

HOWEVER...

It instructs you to go to Settings -> About phone -> System updates -> Update Android but when I do that it still tells me that my phone is up to date. So go figure.

@uscpsycho, you will just have to wait until your device comes back into the query..

Once the update is 100% for everyone it will stay active to automatically OTA any device that requires the update.

I wasn't in the queue so I did a factory wipe from the settings menu, on reboot it started downloading right away.

To fix the doc, go into all apps and make sure you are in grid mode. Press the menu key then edit. Then you can drag icons to the dock at the bottom of the screen.

As far as your apps on your SD card, did you do a hard reset before upgrading?

No, should i have?

No, you shouldn't have to do a hard reset. I was just thinking if you did and didn't reinstall the apps from the Market, that is why they don't show up.

If you go into the Android Market, do you see the apps you have on your SD card listed in the My Apps section?

I updated manually and everything seems to be working great.....but after 1 day I noticed the battery draining fast. I tried the air plane mode fix but it doesn't seem to work. Anyone else run into this problem or have a solution?

My battery also drains faster after the update. Today I wiped my phone and reloaded everything. Hopefully I will see some improvement.

I didn't take the poll 'cause none applied to me.

I didn't even know an upgrade to Gingerbread was coming.

One thing I like is the ability to connect to my computer.

Auto-rotate now works...though a bit slow.

I hope the speed test are not working with Gingerbread: 89 kbps download 39 kbps upload Yes, that's kbps. No wonder "you don't slow down with Sprint." You can't go any slower.

As for battery usage: Android System 66% Display 3% - I doubt it.

Other than that Gingerbread is about the same.

I fail to see what all the hoopla is about.
