[EI22][GINGERBREAD] Gingerbread " Bug Thread "

Yes... My home wifi is showing a much weaker signal as well. I used to have it maxed out anywhere in the house and could even get as signal almost anywhere in my yard. Now I get less than half of what it was and is dead as soon as I step out the door. Used to get up to 20mb/sec. download. Now it's closer to 9mb/sec. So its not only the signal but the speed as well.

I think the devs are working on resolving the wifi issue... We know its a software related problem because it obviously as many of you are commenting was better on Froyo. So that rules out hardware... Now its just up to the devs to figure out a way to tweak it....

Another reason to root your device for those interested...

I'm waiting on people to start asking about an update to fix these problems... That would not come from Sprint, that would come most likely from Samsung in the form of a maintenance update so I guess we will just have to wait and see but I wouldn't hold your breath...

Hello everyone I haven't posted before since everything is usaually already addressed, but I'm having an few problems since the GB update. I have a stock Epic 4G and I sync using bluetooth Ford Sync.
1. Since the update my phone rings via bluetooth it keeps ringing in the car after I answer and I cannot talk through the bluetooth. When I dial out it works fine.

2. My phone will play random music like at the movies or at work. I am using win amp and i normally only use it when connect to bluetooth.

3. Screen timeout defaults to 0. I have to set it back to one min several times a day since the update.

Thanks in advance any advice would be helpful.

i guess I'm the only one with screen timeout and Bluetooth issues since the update.

Go right ahead and jump up on the soap box Irtwan, the spotlight is yours.... Give a description so others know what your referring to with your BT and screen time out issues ;)

I have noticed the inability to "paste" things such as URL's into my messages. What gives? My battery life has gotten better, and many other things, but to take away my ability to paste links?! GAH!

Oh I must have not been clear on my original post. Anyway thanks for the spotlight. Hopefully we can shine some light on the issues. The screen timeout issue is almost making the phone not useable. Whenever my phone goes to sleep for whatever reason the screen timeout changes from 1min to nothing meaning no option is checked. So basically whenever I wake my phone it goes back to sleep as soon as i take my finger off the screen until I change it back to 1 min. I have to do this at least 5 to 10 times a day since the update. Bluetooth I was able to use my phone with Ford Sync without any problems. Now I cannot make or receive calls through Bluetooth when I receive calls it just keeps ringing in the car after I answer and I have to turn off Bluetooth talk. When I dial out the music stops playing but I cannot hear anything through the car system so I have to turn Bluetooth off. The phone also now plays random music without being associated with an app meaning there is nothing to turn off its basically just playing and it's embarrassing at work. I totally understand that you are not Sprint or Samsung so if I?m at the wrong place for help that is cool. I can upgrade but why my phone was working just fine.:D

Maybe this is my cue to finally root my lil' Timmy. I was never much for NASCAR, and I don't need GPS all that much

OK I ctrl+f'd through all 11 pages so far, and I can't believe I am the only person on here having this issue. But, here it is:

If the SD card is in the phone, whenever it boots up it freezes part way through the media scanner process. Usually it jumps from 0% to about 47% immediately, and then it stays there forever. I've read some posts in other threads that say the media scanner scans several times, or scans slowly, but mine just jumps to some point and then stays there forever.

Also, it gets hot as heck and drains the battery. So, I took the SD card out, and its fine, but as soon as I put the card back in, it runs media scanner and then media scanner freezes, like when booting with the card in. Yayyyyy upgrades :P

since i received my OTA update my phone freezes, it froze once in a blue before but does it daily now at least twice. quite annoying. My camera is on silent ... im keeping it that way too! my sister however does not have the silent option.

Fairly happy with the update, but really wish I could get the GPS working right without it freezing up and without having to root.

Try copying the contents of your sdcard over to your computer then format your sdcard then move the contents back and see how that works. You may have some corruption on your sdcard.

Sounds like you had a bad update or something, the random reboots is not normal behavior even of this update...

Anyways to return to stock Froyo EC05...

Procedure #1

[How to] Factory Restore (or Fix a Bricked Phone)

Thanks, Paul627g!

I attempted the above fix, but driver problems: Has anybody had problems getting Windows 7 Professional to recognize Samsung drivers? It's always been a problem for me, but this is the first time it actually mattered. Several attempts to install/delete/reinstall Samsung drivers failed (tried various USB ports, too). I removed the sd card-- phone was so warm that a tab on my cheapie snap on case cover actually melted off. Sadly thinking of walking into a Sprint store tomorrow.

idk if anyone else here plays any games like words with friends but ever since the update (OTA, stock, never rooted) the letters constantly shuffle on their own. I've tried doing the upside down calibration ting and it didn't work. also uninstalling and reinstalling didn't work so I calibrated again. I'm a word game nerd and this shuffling is driving me loco!

and yes, the camera shutter noise is a huge bummer! no more sneaking cute pictures of sleeping pets. :-\

Windows 7 is the devil when it comes to Samsung or really anything involving rooting and hacking... Its not a very "hacker friendly" OS.... I was able to get it installed on my Win 7 laptop to do my Epic before I switched to the NS4G but it was a day long of messing around.

I found it best to first uninstall all Sammy drivers. Then reboot my laptop. Next I plugged in my device via USB and allowed my laptop to recognize it on its own which it did and allowed for mass storage connection. Then I went and disconnected from my laptop and installed the Samsung drivers and placed my phone in debugging mode and then connected and finally after a few attempts and different ports it recognized and finished installing the drivers. I do remember it saying even a few times that the device was not recognized or whatever but when I placed my device into Download Mode and loaded up Odin it recognized it anyways so away I went and did my thing....

So basically even if it appears that the drivers installed and you still get a driver installation error or something, boot into Download Mode with your device and give Odin a spin... All you need is Odin to recognize the device is there to do its thing, regardless of what Win 7 and its driver fussiness says...

Since the upgrade and root my phone has a "tin" sound when it rings. I had the same issue with phone calls but was able to resolve the issue by turning the volume all the way up and then back down during a phone call. Not sure what the issue is as my wife's phone that isn't rooted seems to work just fine. The only other difference is that I manually updated mine while my wife received an over the air update.

Any suggestions before I do a complete wipe and reload?

Also, not sure if this is a "bug" or not, but there is no way to turn off the camera shutter sound. Even when the phone is on silent, the camera still makes a sound when you take a picture.

yes im so glad to see that i am not the only one with this problem! I have tried everything i can think of to turn the sound off. someone please help! now i cant take pictures discretely!!!!!!! lol.

You shouldn't take peoples pictures without their permission anyway... :)

E X A C T L Y.....

Not sure if this was Google or Sprint/Samsung but they think along the same lines....

Is there a fix to the GPS issue? I've notice a couple of other people mentioning it but haven't seen anything about fixing in on stock GB. For some this might be a minor issue, but for me it's something that would push me to root the phone so I could get the GPS to work or go back to Froyo.

For stock I haven't really heard of anything... I know they have a fix for rooted GB users.
