email client doesn't like non-alphanumeric characters in password

ANY email address I put into the email client preinstalled on the phone ALWAYS says username/password incorrect if the password has non-alphanumeric characters in the password!!! I have THREE email accounts that REQUIRE non-alphanumeric characters in the password and ALL OF THEM experience the username/password incorrect error message!!!!! ALL email accounts WITHOUT non-alphanumeric characters in the password work!!!!! Googling the problem brought up NOTHING!!!!

It would be helpful if you told us WHAT EMAIL CLIENT YOU HAVE as well as what device.
