Emails keep coming back after deletion

A couple of weeks ago, I noticed that when I delete my emails from my phone (gmail) they come back on next check in. They don't necessarily all come back but most do. Is there a setting or some type of Archive setting that I should be using?

If it is from the same person/ conversation they will.
When you delete the emails, the just go into the trash folder, but are not completely deleted unless you go under that label and delete them.
