First off i'd like to say that i'm not trying to flame the Epic so please don't flame me back.... with that said though....

I come in these forums everyday and right now i'm looking at the entire first page of the forum and it is nothing but complaints/findings about various problems about the phone. I understand that it's a very nice piece of hardware.. probably the best looking phone out (it and the Vibrant) which is why i understand many of you wanting to keep it + the keyboard. But man in the eyes of someone looking to buy this phone I think i'd have to think twice about it.

I just really hope that all of these problems/bugs you guys are experiencing get ironed out in a timely manner. My only concern is that:

1. I believe Samsung in general to not be the speediest in creating updates.

2. Since this is the only Galaxy S running a different version of TouchWiz, that updates for the Epic will fall behind the updates for the rest of the Galaxy S family.

As i've said before just my 2 cents.. I like it but it definitely has much room to improve. Today is the 30th too huh?

p.s. I was thinking could the phone not sleeping/battery drain be cause by a badly written stock app with a memory leak problem?

While is true the Epic has multiple issues, in all fairness you are likely to find such a litany with most other devices within the first few weeks of release until fixes are pushed by the carrier/manufacturer or the community.

I agree, for that reason I just returned the Epic this week before the 30-day trial ends, and went back to my Evo. I really like the Epic and will likely pick one again in the future when most of the major issues are addressed.

I think if you go to the forums to see if your going to get it you will always see the bad. No matter what phone. People tend to ask for help with problems and voice the bad and keep quiet when its good. I for one love my Epic. I have had over 30 phones in the last 2 years and this is by far my favorite so far. There has already been one update and update #2 is supposed to start rolling out today. I'm not really worried about the updates at this point. I am on day 31 with this phone and wouldn't get rid of it for anything else right now.

compared to my last phone treo 800. This phone is AWESOME.

My co-worker has an EVO, while I do not have long term experience with that phone, I can tell at a glance that the Epic is much more desirable than the EVO. THe screen plays a HUGE factor.

If the Epic was a solid non-keyboard phone, it would be even better! As it turned out, I do not use the hardkeys as much as I anticipated. SWYPE works awesome!

We have received 2 updates in less than 30 days. Epic Problems? More like Epic whiners. I'm not talking about the OP.

Those are the epic whiners I'm speaking of. GPS issue can be fixed so it's not really a issue. 3g upload should be fix within the next 4 days for everyone. Battery problem introduced with the last update is suppose to be addressed. 2.2 should be out by November.

What more are you looking for? The phone is barely a month old. It doesn't have as much support as the Evo currently. Time will change that. I'd personally rather be stuck with 3g upload problem than to have a issue with my framerate being locked at 30 and how many months did it take HTC to get this update out the door?

Epic is proven to be a solid phone despite what others may say. Look at the few issues it currently has and decide if it's worth it to you. If you think the Epic has epic flaws then every phone that ever exist has epic flaws.

I'm not trying to be an Epic fanboy here. I'm just thankful to have so much support for my device. It amazes me when people look at it as if it's complete trash.

Well, as I remember it when I first got the evo there were just as many complaints. Thing is everything works itself out. My epic does have a few problems, but nothing that software fixes will fix. No that I am rooted most of my issues are gone so that tells me that software will fix this fabulous piece of hardware

Another thing you have to look at is that a lot of people are trying to figure out workarounds to their issues because they love the phone. My battery life before today was terrible but I'm not going to give up on what is the best phone that I've had. For a lot of us, if we didn't like the phone, we wouldn't bother posting the issues. We'd just take the thing back.

The phone is a great phone and I don't doubt that Samsung and Sprint will fix all the minor glitches we're experiencing (which seem to be almost entirely software issues). Like the posters above have stated, you'll run into issues like this whenever you get a product on launch day or close to it. It's definitely much better than my experience with a Palm Pre.

It is the internet. No one comes to tell how great their phones are.

I personally have been very vocal on trying to figure out this battery drain issue but it's because i really love my Epic, easily the best phone i have ever had. My issue is the battery drain, and coming to these boards to "complain" is to possibly find a workaround and fix a problem in an otherwise great phone.

I had the Pre on launch and was at precentral.net with the other early adopters. The Epic complaints are a drop in the bucket compared to the onslaught of complaints and b*tching going on with the Pre in its first couple of months.

All part of being on the bleeding edge of a new device.

So true... you roll with the punches and deal with the opening day / week / month bugs and hope and wish and pray and wait for updates / fixes... just goes with the territory
