Epic Versus Evo

I really hope it turns out to be a great phone. I will stay faithful to my evo until someone can prove me wrong.

I do love the the galaxy line spreading all carriers(hope to see alot more of this). It can only do wonders for development. Plus someone has to go faster than the galaxy line now.

Hey guys im looking for pictures taken from the epic, evo and Iphone 4. Could someone help me out?

Moment HD first impressions

I just got an EVO and went today to switch my evo for an epic...

After playing with it i decided to keep my EVO...

1. The screen is a little better but its smaller.

2. The phone is the same size as the evo with a smaller screen???

3. It feels like a toy... really light and plastic... they should have named it the moment HD...

4. I had trouble with the capacitive buttons at the bottom of the screen and had trouble hitting one key at a time...

5. I have short thumbs... and the keys in the middle of the board were hard for me to reach...

In the end... its a good phone... but there is no way this thing is gonna outlast an EVO in the marathon of devices...

Just like Engadget says... the EVO wins out by a small margin... If you gotta have a keyboard the epic is for you.

We have both, 2 Evos, 1 Epic. There's no way I'd switch, but there's one person in this family that would disagree with me :) To each his or her own.

thanks for letting us know something that has been posted 68 times already.

Yeah, honestly! Please don't comment on something that can be fixed! I've told people countless times that the buttons CANNOT be tapped, they must be held for a split second. If you had a problem then, then that's fine, just post that part (I haven't had any problems though) Oh, and one more thing:

Superior colors

In conclusion, you have not made a bad choice. They both are great phones. I didn't really like the EVO, but the Epic is great for me. For you, it was obviously a different story. Everyone has a right to their own opinions.

I do love having a physical keyboard, however I was at a T-Mo store the other day with a friend and checked out their Galaxy S and I do have to admit it was really nice. Too bad Sprint can't have both options but either way, I'm hoping to get one in my hands come October, when my fiance becomes upgrade eligible. She really want's my Moment, and being the nice fella I am, I will be happy to give it to her and take the Epic off her hands.

i agree... i just went to swap my EVO for an EPIC and decided against it... i started a thread about it...

here's what i wrote.....

Wow, that would be a great  trade! lol

The Epic is so much better for me than the Evo. I like having the option to have a keybord for typing and games. Also, the screen is better, games are much faster and the phone is just more responsive. This device will last a little longer than the Evo with Apps. Media hub, DLNA and intergration with Samsung TVs is avesome!

I don't know, the Evo to me is dead hardware already like the N1. Why invest in that?

My 2 cents

Hmm started laughing when you mentioned dead hardware. The Evo has a bigger screen, yes it does lack that saturated colored Super AMOLED, but it's still bigger. Touchwiz is hideous in every sense... Both phones pack about the same amount of power, but running 1ghz CPU's and 512mb of ram, and as for GPU once the Evo is rooted it's not far behind in FPS. So again your logic on this is pure failure.

Hey, they quoted Samsung, I'm not talking about the post. WE will determine if it works. Engadget and Pocketnow said it worked perfectly. I will see if it works today when I get my phone. Also, why are you so harsh? If you're right, fine, but don't go raging all over the thread.
Yes it was harsh, and for that I apologize. Perhaps now you yourself might reconsider how flip and dismissive your initial answer to me was.

I am not "raging all over the thread" I am replying to flippant and general "the gps is fine" and "samsung posted a fix" (which only deals with tower triangulation) comments. There is something wrong with the GPS in comparison to all the other major smartphones, and a comparison with Captivate is NOT what is needed but rather a comparison to other GPS enabled smartphones such as, Treo Pro Touch Pro, Touch Pro 2, Iphone, Droid2 and Evo. I walked out of the store this morning with an Epic and an Evo, and the Epic GPS is worse on TTFF, reported and actual accuracy, and number of birds than the Epic, Treo Pro, touch Pro and Touch Pro 2 I tested against in preliminary tests.
In about 10 days I will give results from comprehensive tests.

What phone do you have now, and will you keep it a few days and report some comparative testing of several non galaxy phones outside with tower triangulation off for us?

We will see about that logic when more apps become GPU intensive. I know everyone has their right of opinion, but I would double check your thinking.

GPU's are, will become more important in the near future.

Wanna load up N.O.V.A. and see who has the better device?

You can root and overclock that Evo all you want. The fact is, the GPU is weak sauce compared to the Epic's. At Baseline, it out performs the Evo 3 times over. What will happen when the overclock comes for the Epic?

Another point to throw at you is that most apps are written for this chipset first. (iPhone Hardware) Optimization of software will be less of an issue for developers. I wish Google would push the issue to force hardware manufactures to use a yearly standardized chipset to stop the splintering of its users and marketplace. After all, their basically getting the OS for free!

I don't play games on my device.. But when I did play NOVA on my 30fps cap it ran perfectly fine. I would rather have my EVO, I personally think it's the better device, fps cap or not. Plus if you compare build quality the EVO wins hands down, and the capacitive buttons on the Epic don't seem to work well, but my EVO ones are perfect.

As with the apps... You should really switch to an iPhone, because as Android users we do not want apps that are designed specifically for certain phones. That is plain stupid... The EVO once unlocked can hit between 55fps and 60fps with root, same as the good ole Epic. I'm pretty sure the high end GPU devices are capped at 60fps if i'm not mistaken.
