Epic Versus Evo

When I was in Sprint store not too long ago, I fiddled with the EVO for a while. I liked it, but noticed that the web browser wouldn't go landscape when I tilted the phone. Is that a problem? Or is it I wasn't giving it enough time? Also, there IS a landscape keyboard on EVO right?

I had a Pre for a year and got used to the physical keyboard. I finally had to give it up when my 7th Pre broke. Sprint reluctantly gave me a Hero. I love it. It is a little flaky, and I do miss WebOS - but I love Sense!

To me, it has nothing to do with keyboard - I have had phones with and without physical keyboards. It is all about usability and UI. I love Sense, but will give TouchWiz a try. We'll see how it shakes down!

Hey, they quoted Samsung, I'm not talking about the post. WE will determine if it works. Engadget and Pocketnow said it worked perfectly. I will see if it works today when I get my phone. Also, why are you so harsh? If you're right, fine, but don't go raging all over the thread.

I'm a huge fan of the kickstand, so that's one feature I don't think I would want to give up with the EVO. But I would like to see how the phone integrates with the Samsung Eco system of other devices. I've got pretty much samsung everything else.

From what I've seen, the battery life between the two is comparable, and within any reasonable margin of error.

This is what kills AMOLED right now and such as a majority of web pages have white backgrounds, this is not a good combination. Even so the Epic 4g has pretty admirable battery life.

Thinking of switching from my Evo

That screen is just great. And a true keyboard. Yumm...

Love My EVO but the Epic looks great too

Winning one would be nice, have the best of both worlds killer screen with a qwerty keyboard, and the biggest baddest phone on the market. Sign me up!

Still got a bad taste in my mouth from the Samsung Instinct (original one) so sticking with the EVO for now.

dont jump ship

I went from Palm Pre to an EVO. The EVO is by far the best phone I have ever owned !!
Then, the Epic comes around. My daughter is still using her Palm Pre and wants to upgrade to Android...She saw the Epic 4G....played with my EVO 4G...both awesome phones, but She chose the EVO, and ordered it yesterday. The Epic seems a little pricey to me for what it is.....no 2.2.....a few less features than the EVO has....Im sure its a great phone, but the only way I would get one....is to win one !!....lol !!!

My 30 day return window is just about to close on the EVO. I am debating if I should take it back for the EPIC. I think I'm going to stay with the EVO. But, seeing that screen might make me change my mind. It's one or the other, I sold my old Palm Pre to a friend.

Hey get either or.

Can anyone else thinki of a time Sprint had people arguing over two super phones?

I can't. This is a huge win for Sprint. Evo owner here, but debated endlessly between the evo and the epic.

I may have to get into a Sprint Store to check this out. I haven't been able to get used to the touch-type screen on the EVO.

How does rooted Evo with FPS uncap and overclock compared to Epic?

Does anyone have a rooted froyo rom with FPS unlocked and overclocked that can compare to their new Epic? I'm interested in the Epic for it's processor and GPU but if I can get an Evo hacked to be almost the same then I would probably just keep my Evo. I have an Epic waiting for me at sprint but I'm still undecided since I will have to add a new line to get it. It may not be worth the hassle if I can get my Evo to perform similar to the Epic.

Pre versus Hero

The two phones weren't quite as good as these two, but the arguments were similar.

Download SwiftKey from the market as well as Swype. I normally would say that I would never want a softkeyboard, but these two might just make it bearable.

Of course, there are plenty of other reasons to get the epic over the evo, so you should check it out anyway.

Im really thinking this one and will probably have to save up the bucks to get the Epic for the wife. She is using some samsung messaging phone (piece of crap only works in speaker mode) and would love the Android system.

Any women out there with impressions of the Evo vs the Epic. My wife isnt really a techno freak but can hold her own.

Just my opinion as to why I would choose the Evo: it's more pocketable.

Sure, it sounds bland and generic, but its true. I want a phone that I can hold in my hand and look at every day for 2 years, and be happy. It's lighter, its (a bit) smaller, and more round than the Evo. I really dont like the angular corners of the evo, and its ALMOST as think as the Epic, and it doesn't even have a keyboard! Not to mention the SUPER awesome SUPER amoled.

The Evo doesn't justify its proportions. It has a big screen, without having a higher resolution. It has worse battery life, without better performance, it is thick, but has no keyboard. It feels solid, but doesn't have gorilla glass. It's got a kickstand but can't play 720p mkvs. It has HDMI, but is capped at 30fps. I think the Epic is just a more balanced phone in general.

The Super AMOLED display on the Galaxy S phones makes everything else obsolete. Not just because it is so awesome, but because it is thinner, lighter and more durable than other displays. The iPhone 4 feels stupid compared to the Captivate. It is heavier while at the same time having a smaller screen, smaller battery and a slower processor.
