Epic Versus Evo

The deciding factor for me is that the Evo has the compact qwerty keyboard option. This is really the only touch-screen keyboard that I can type very fast on. I do want to try the Epic and see how real keys feel for a change. I love my Evo but can't help gettin' a bit of Epic fever! Sprint is really fighting back with some nice Android devices!

If the keyboard doesn't make it too bulky this might be a good contender for the Evo. Especially for those still waiting.

I love the EVO and I find myself wondering if I could get passed touchwiz could I love the Epic just as much and I think the answer to that is yes, but touchwiz is kind of annoying. Not to say that Im a vanilla android man since I love sense so much but touchwiz is just weird. I could see myself getting used to the Epic 4G simply because its soooo good. So in the end, EVO v Epic.....I really don;t know. If such a battle were to occur it would be a evolutionary fight of epic proportions.....but in the end they are both great phones and you really cant go wrong with the hardware on these things. Its also good to mention that Ive waited for the EVO to finally get in stock in Pensacola and for the Epic to come out...sooo I wonder which one I will choose

Our motto: "if it's software, it's fixable; if it's hardware, you're screwed!"

If it's a software issue, don't worry because it will be included in an update in the future, or it is fixable by one of our many great ROM cookers at SDX/XDA.

Im not much for phones with physical teyboards but the epic isn't bulky and just looks great alaround.... evo or epic both crazy cool

I'm intrigued by the keyboard mostly over the Evo, also i read somewhere that the 4g antennae is better on the Epic is that so?

I have and love my Evo, but I'd love an Epic too. Why compare, they are both amazing and can do just about everything the other can.

Long live Android!

Thank goodness there is someone else who thinks they should reign side-by-side.

This phone could be really killer with CM6. Touchwiz, not so much. But yeah, as an EVO owner, I am a bit intrigued.

I'm waffling back and forth. Originally I was set on needing a physical keyboard. Then I was at a Verizon store checking out the Droid X and the Droid 2 and playing around with the screen keyboard on such a large screen made the physical keyboard seem unnecessary. I love swype and would use that for 90% of my typing.

The keyboard would really be for gaming, along with the better gaming processor on the Epic. BUT I don't know how much I would actually play games. Sure if I'm the passenger on a long drive or in a waiting room with some time to kill it would be a nice option, but its not like the evo can't play any games, and watching a tv show or something is an option during those times as well.

I've been trying out the pros/cons list to convince myself one way or the other, there are small things like slightly better battery life on the EPIC or my preference for the capacitive buttons on the EVO, but here are the major things for me.

EPIC
Pros
AMOLED
Dedicated Camera Button and Better Image/Video quality from what reviews have shown.
Physical Keyboard + Better Processor for Gaming
More Media Codecs for better media playback compatibility

Cons
Slider design seems easier to break then a single piece phone.
Smaller Screen.
Touchwhiz
No HDMI
2.1

EVO
Pros
Bigger Screen
Slightly Thinner
Sense
HDMI
Kickstand
2.2

Cons
Not well suited for gaming
No dedicated camera button

UI and FROYO advantages will matter at first, but with rooting/customization it might not be as big a deal eventually. I'm really having a tough choice still though. I'll probably spend a few days checking out what gaming is out there because if I really don't see myself gaming that takes away a major advantage for the Epic.

WRONG! There is hdmi through micro usb. Also, Super AMOLED supposedly makes the screen look bigger. Also, even though a slab phone would be sturdier, the Epic has been reviewed as a very sturdy slider.

epic 4g better than evo?

I currently have a evo 4g. I'm really enjoying this phone . But the battery needs some work it's not terrible but it drains quickly when surfing the net. Also it keep opening apps even if you aren't using them. The epic from what I read seems to have good battery life and has about every feature the evo has. I also here its a lot faster. So give me your thoughts is the evo still king or is it about to be de throned.

What's Better is generally a more subjective thing in my opinion. It comes down to what's more important to you. Whichever device has what you want in it should make it the better one to you.

I agree. Personally I'd rather have my hands on the Epic, but then again I'm currently holding a Palm Pre. If I had broken down 2 months ago and snagged the EVO I'd probably just hold on to it rather than upgrade, but starting from scratch I do think the Epic has better features suited for me.

I know about the usb to hdmi cable. I don't consider a 50-60 dollar cable converting a usb port to hdmi the same as a 10 dollar cable connecting hdmi to hdmi.

I'm also not sure how AMOLED would make a screen look bigger. Better I understand, but how would it look bigger?

They're both unbelievable phones but the Evo already won me over. 4.3" display, slender chasis, microHDMI, and the awesome kickstand.

My dad would love a cutting-edge phone, so I'm posting here for a chance to win him one. :)
