Essential Order and Shipping Thread

Sounds like an utter mess.

I know it’s a startup, but the people working there aren’t exactly new to the smartphone industry.

If it wasn’t headed by Andy Rubin, I think there would be more fury.

Wow ... I bet the leaders of this company still won't utter a word and some people here will still defend ...well it's not essentials fault.
Depends on how bad it gets. If things do fall apart, hopefully it happens in the next week or two. It's not too late to return!

Defending the design or trying to shed some insight on the logistical challenges is one thing. Blatant security missteps are indefensible. I suspect someone (or multiple someones) will get canned over this.

Very true. This is certainly buying them a fair bit of slack. That slack is getting tighter and tighter though.

Based on the percentage of the replies we weren't supposed to see that are cancellations, it's pretty bad.

Yeah agree too much benefit of doubt given to this company which is being lead by pretty big names. Let's see how well and soon they respond to this. They won't unless some prominent websites light a fire under their ***

Be careful of people asking for personal info everyone. Don't get scammed!

I would be more concerned about the people who gave out all this PII. Scan a passport? Really? Anyone who responded to this request should be lodging a potential fraud alert with the credit reporting agencies. One report is enough, they will contact the other two.

I didn't actually see any social security numbers or anything. In Florida (where I live), driver license numbers are not secret.

Finally good !! But the company hasn't uttered a word. Sure they will have to do analysis but jeez say sorry and acknowledge the issue first.

You're kidding, right? You don't see a problem with people who scan passports and credit card statements and send them over email to who-the-hell-knows? Also, Reddit confirmed that it was a phishing scam. Regardless of what Essential has or had not done that information is out there and that is not a good thing for those involved.

Oh, I see a problem with it. But not a credit problem. And it was not a phishing scam. I don't know what you mean by "Reddit confirmed". Reddit is not a person. I posted conclusive proof on Reddit that it was not a phishing scam.

Wow, really? Joe Reddit isn't real? Well, what I read on Reddit didn't agree with you, and if my info was out there I wouldn't care what you, or Reddit thought, I'd already be in the credit bureaus.

And enough. I Apologize to the thread for going off topic. Let's get back to the order issues please.

If it was not a phishing scam why the hell did they ask to scan driver licence, passport, credit card info etc?
Something fishy unless it's some disgruntled employee working with someone to get personal info.

Could be a disgruntled employee. The personal info definitely went to support@essential.com and customercare@essential.com. Didn't go anywhere else from the sender. One or both of those Essential addresses were misconfigured and ended up sending to everyone who replied.

Both of those addresses are now completely disabled, so you can't send to either of them anymore. Hopefully that will be fixed soon, so the complaining can resume. But for now, you can't even reach support.
