EVO 3D - GPS Issue: A Known Issue to Sprint

Tested my GPS and it was dead on. I put in a address via Gas Buddy Then hit home in TelNav.

I have never used TelNav, but I just opened it and it immediately told me it needed to perform an update. It's currently stuck on a webpage saying "Preparing to download"

EDIT: Looks like it worked. Need to try it soon to see if my GPS is working. If one sprint guy says it's "known issue" and a tech comes on here and says it'snot then Sprint store is probably telling people fix in 3 weeks so the 30 days will be up and you can't return phone.

Having the same problem here. I use a jogging/running app called 'Runtastic'. GPS was dead-on accurate with my EVO 4g...but I've never had an accurate read on any of my runs using my EVO 3D. I attached a pic to this post, so hopefully you can see what I mean. My GPS track makes me look like an alcoholic runner.

Yeah I have the same issues. Waiting patiently for a fix. I have no other problems with the phone at all.

So far working good for me. I use jog tracker app all the time and everything has been dead on accurate.

EVO - LUTION 3D

I'm about to get a 3D, coming from a 4G. In the past few months I've had problems with the 4G GPS, losing signal and causing the phone to reboot. I finally figured out that the problem was related to temperature. When the battery temperature goes above 41 - 42C, a failure will follow shortly. (I realize the battery temperature per se probably doesn't matter, but that's the temperature one can easily display and it seems to be a good predictor of GPS failure.) If I put the 4G near an air conditioning vent, I can go for hours with dead-on accuracy. So I wonder if the 3D might have the same issue. Try using the GPS when the device is cool and see if that makes any difference.

GPS is very important to me and apart from the recent temperature issue, the GPS on the 4G has performed flawlessly. If the 3D GPS doesn't work well, it's going back in a jiffy.

not sure if this is just an isolated issue but I got directions to a local bank n then 10 minutes later I plugged another address in from my contacts and I went to navigate, I exited the nav program and when I chose the second destination from the recently navigated items the nav actually routed me to the bank, causing me to go in a complete circle? what is the deal here

Just a suggestion from reading this thread.. Have you tried turning off "use wireless networks" in the location settings? Because just going off of what I read it sounds like the bouncing around of the GPS may be from the phone triangulating your location. Think of it like when you come into range of a new cell tower your GPS will jump toward that new cell site momentarily while it recalculates the GPS. And yes this is still an issue even when sitting still as you may be picking up a faint signal that is throwing off your location.. So like I said to anyone having this specific issue can you confirm that it is still there with "Use Wireless Networks" Un-Checked.

Before you spread out misinformation, there is no "known" issue with the GPS it would have to show on our internal forum on Sprint. So there is no known issue with the GPS FYI... I work for Sprint as a repair technican

I called Sprint customer service yesterday for something else (an account issue) and I asked her about the gps issue. According to the rep, this was a known issue. It is great that you work for the Sprint in the repair area. You may have access to more detailed information. Would you check and let us know that Sprint is really aware of this issue and is actively working on the fix? And whether it is software or hardware issue? The customer service rep, understanably, did not have that level of detail and no estimate as to when the fix will become available.

turning off "use wireless networks" does not help what-so-ever. I went by a Sprint store today, and that was their first suggestion to fix the issue. As I walked out to my car, I opened Google maps and once again...my location bounces all over the place.

I walked back in to the store and after the rep stated "well, no phone GPS is perfect", they suggested either doing a hard reset (erase all data and put phone back to factory settings) or get a new phone altogether.

A good suggestion. :)
I think I tried it both ways, at least when I was checking this at my house. I will try again this evening when I get home. I get a really weak gps siginal in the building where I work. My EVO 3D also prompted for some updates this morning Watch, etc, and after accepting them, my firmware version is now 1.13.651.7 CL83920
Thanks,

I've been having issues with both Google Navigation and Telenav, and wa glad to see I'm not crazy, by the looks of this thread. In both apps, it appears most times to never be able to connect to GPS. In Google Navigation, it will tell me "searching for GPS," but often never connects.

I say often, because sometimes it will connect right away, but it very seldom does that. It also occurs in places where my Evo 4G always connected right away.

I hope this is fixed soon...heading with the family to Florida tomorrow, and was hoping to have this available for navigating.

Same here, the other day I was losing gps signal every few minutes. It was nuts, sucked I really relied on it that day.

Just got back from a 400 mile road trip. Received 10-12 'GPS signal lost ' msgs using Google navigation during the first 100 miles before turning it off and switching to my Garmin.
Something's definitely up. I'll call Sprint later and see what they say.

You know it kind of seems that Gingerbread in general no matter what ROM, stock, rooted whatever seems to have GPS issues for some.... Or if you guys have been following the LightSquare LTE news you would see that their LTE affects GPS, now I dont know how widespread they are in particular, but could possibly LTE or other wireless techs be interfering with GPS as it seems things are not getting better as time goes on(aka more deployment of interfering tech)...

Just a thought, anyone else consider this?

EDIT:PLUS Dont know if anyone else has these problems but Sprint in general has kinda been taking a dump lately... yesterday the 4th many times I could not even make a phone call due to network busy error.. Tried on 4 diff Sprint phones same results on all. AND 3G was going crazy yesterday as well could keep a 3G signal for nothing and when I did it was VERY slow, like unusable slow

Okay, I can't make mine not work. LoL. What am I doing wrong? I turned on GPS, then went to G Maps, and zoomed in. It doesn't move/jump around at all.

I really don't want to enable Nav, thought I could try to replicate the problem with Google maps

Other than trying to reproduce the problem for a replacement, why would you WANT to make it not work?

So I think I'm having the same issue: Running Workout | Endomondo

I was looking into whether this was a problem with the Endomondo app or my GPS, seems like it's my gps. From the workout summary it looks like I was jumping over houses and fences during my run...

(btw, don't laugh at my lap times, I was running with a slow friend :) )

Well Cyanogenmod for the EVO 4G had GPS problems before but it was fixed later and also a clear of the GPS cache by using the MSL code fixed it too. I just think it's a software issue with the phone.

+ 2

My husband and I have seen Google maps lose us at off ramps and side streets while driving and never had the same issue with our original EVOs.
