EVO 3D Support Group For Palm webOS Users

Re: Support Group For Palm webOS Users

I there a way to have apps automatically load on the SD card. It is a pain to install app and then move it to the SD card. I have App2 SD pro and it notifies me that the app can be moved, but I still have to select it to move it.

Re: Support Group For Palm webOS Users

I just wanted to say that I've had this phone for 4 days now and I absolutely love it! I can't believe that this was what I was missing sticking with the Pre so long. I'm almost embarrassed to say that I was a launch day pre owner :p

Re: Support Group For Palm webOS Users

I've been through five palm pre's since the day it came out. Finally replaced it last week with the EVO 3d. I feel like I've been using a kiddie toy for the last two years. I didn't think I would be so blown away by the upgrade, but I really am a lot more impressed with the EVO than I thought I would be. Glad HP decided to make my pre obsolete. Brought me to my new awesome EVO. This thing kicks ass.

Re: Support Group For Palm webOS Users

Just got an Evo 3d, coming from a launch day pre with only a crack on the charging port. I find that I miss the dialer from webos, the email app, sms, gestures...but the Evo is a really nice piece of hardware. Sense is ok, still getting used to it. I'm no programmer, but I would like to try and port at least some of the useful webos stuff over to work on the new phone, keeping the Pre around as a wifi device.

Re: Support Group For Palm webOS Users

unlike most of of you who switched and never looked back, i keep one eye looking at the HP Pre3.

i was forced to use my upgrade when my launch day Pre slipped out of my hand and i dropped it (must have been the 150th time) and it landed screen first on a rock and broke completly.

i upgraded to a Nexus S 4G and i liked it but all the signal issues made me return it. i was with the NS4G for almost my entire 30 day trial until the Evo 3D Launched. i was actually waiting to see if the Pre3 was gonna be released but nothing. so i changed it for the EVO 3D.

now i am contemplating whether i made a mistake or not. here is the deal. My wife, also on sprint (but uses Nextel), is due for an upgrade on July 1st. Where we moving to there is no Nextel coverage so therefore she has to upgrade to a Sprint device. I told her to wait to get the Pre3 and 30 days later we can switch devices. That was good until i told her she was gonna get the Evo 3D to what she replied, HELL NO!. she doesn't like 3D stuff, it gives her headaches and what not.

but i must say this.... this move for me is just temporary until my next upgrade or if Sprint and my wife decide to get the Pre3.

WebOs, i am comming back!

Re: Support Group For Palm webOS Users

...I can't download an update because the battery is less than 35%

...I tried to open a link on a website and it said I have too many pages open...

Something is really wrong with your phone.I have never heard of a Too Many Page error in Android.

Let it charge and then install the update. Holding the update may be killing resources. That will reboot your phone and these strange problems should be gone. If not return it as defective.

Re: Support Group For Palm webOS Users

Agree completely, Sense dialer is trash...why oh why do i need to see my entire contact list when I open the phone app? Is there any way to change the default to call history or favorites?
The first entries shows in the phone app are your call history then your phone book. When the phone is new, you don't have much of a call history yet so you see contacts.

Use the Speed dial for your favorites. In the Phone App, tap Menu > Speed dial. Just like in the Pre, long-press a number to dial that speed dial.

I have my speed dials set up in my Pre and EVO but I always forget to use them. They are either in the call history or it is so fast to type a couple letters of their name.

Or use the HTC People widget. I set up a group in Contacts called Speed Dial and just use that group. You can set each contact to default to call any number or text or email instead of a number.

Re: Support Group For Palm webOS Users

Just wanted to recommend Wave Launcher to folks. I've been playing with some of the apps linked to in the first message of this thread and that one by far impresses me the most. Think of the wave launcher thing in webOS (where you drag up from the gesture area slowly, but on steroids - incredibly configurable and accessible inside any app, in landscape view, etc. You can even create folders on the launchbar that open to reveal more apps -essentially giving you pretty quick access to scores of apps. Seems like a really nice enhancement.

I guess the only thing it doesn't do is distinguish between what's running and what isn't, but I'm sensing more and more than in Android that distinction isn't that big a deal - I've had no issues with sluggishness or errors or such despite paying very little attention to what I close (via the back button) and what I leave running (by just hitting home or switching to a different app)...

Re: Support Group For Palm webOS Users

Is there a "Quick Contacts" type app. for android?

Based on several questions about Quick Contacts and Speed Dial, I added this to the Phone section of the Getting Started. Good questions. THanks!

Speed Dial
- ? To set up a Speed dial: Tap Home > Phone > Menu . Speed dial > Add new. Choose a contact phone and assign a Speed dial number.
- ? To call using Speed dial: Tap Home > Phone and long press their assigned number. You can have up to nine speed dial numbers.

Speed Dial Favorites Widgets
- ? Picture Speed Dial Widgets show several contact photos on-screen and you can define each to call, text, or email the person.
- ? You phone may have a Speed Dial Widget or consider: Folder Organizer (free), GO Contacts (iPhone theme), MeContacts, or QDial.

Jorge,

She is just not understanding.

Please tell her that 3D is only if she turns it on and only for photos and videos the camera shoots.

In ways, I wish that they did not have the 3D on it because most people will never use it.

The EVO 3D is like it's twin, the Sensation but with a 3D camera.

Just flip the 2D/3D switch to 2D and she will never see anything in 3D.

I'm keeping an eye out too. Mostly because I seemingly love synergy too much. I can't seem to match it on android. But there's also so much more android does better (maps anyone?) I don't know if I'd go back right now. I do hope they pick up steam so I can grab a webOS tablet.

As for 3D stuff... tell her to just not use it =) Pretty simple, that's how I'm approaching it, ha.

Re: Export contacts from Palm Pre

For those of us with "the fear" is their a way to transfer this .vcf file directly to the evo 3d via usb cord?

If you don't have the WebOS patch to export all contacts, get that, then export all contacts. Obviously the next step is to import them to your EVO. :D

Ditto. I didn't even look close at it but just did, and found one of my biggest struggles is the first feature listed. Long hold Home. That advanced me way ahead in quest of being more comfortable the world of Android! :)

As a release day Pre owner all I can say is WOW! I loved WebOS, I have defended it faithfully for the past two years. It is still the best multi-tasking mobile OS on the market period. There are things to get used to on the Evo3D but WOW!

As a 2 year Pre- veteran myself, "WOW!" pretty much says it all. :D

I can't believe I waited this long to upgrade from my original release day pre. My pre was done for. My power button was broken, I lost my usb door, my phone was constantly getting stuck in headset mode. You name the problem and my pre had it. Don't get me wrong I loved my pre, but I can't believe I waited this long to upgrade. The 3d is amazing. It's so much faster than my pre, even when I had it overclocked. I can't seem to put the 3d down. I'm learning new things about this phone everyday! And I'm glad to see that the android central people are as nice and friendly as the people were from pre central!

I'm in love with my E3D, but I do oh so dearly miss the perfect functionality of the webOS card functions.

I have yet to find a good substitute for the supreme multitasking experience, and I can't seem to make any of the listed in the first post work well?

I'm searching around in this thread~

EDIT: Still haven't found any multi tasking method that's up to par with webOS; not too surprised..
But anyway, I am enjoying Android OS so so much. The speed on this phone makes my Pixi and Pre, even overclocked, look like they were from the 1990's. Maybe that's a bit exaggerating, but I'm just too warm and fuzzy with the speed of this phone, and all that it can do. It's multitasking suffices for me.
