Best Way Financialy To Go From EVO3D to Galaxy S II?

WHY I'm making the change is below.

I got my 3D on launch day. The 3D video features were cool for a few days, but I haven't used them other than showing off my phone.
What is the best way to upgrade? I can think of 2. Pay cash for the Galaxy (no new contract), and perform an ESN swap, and sell my 3D.
Or, outright pay the ETF, and get the phone with an extended 2 year contract, and still sell the 3D.

Is there another option? I want to keep my existing EPRP plan regardless.

It's very important that I keep my existing number.

Why do I want to make this change?

Having 3D on my phone is not compelling. The shiny shiny of it has worn off.
More memory. 16GB on board, expandable with another 32GB with an SD card. 48GB TOTAL!
A full GB of RAM!
8MP camera.
1080P video capture.
Longer battery life.

Most of the other specs are a wash... but these are enough to make me want to switch.

Help me oh wise and wizzened ones. How do I save a few bucks? I want to do this today.

Keep in mind that the review period has changed to 14 days instead of 30 because too many people have been phone hopping when the new has worn off. Believe me, I understand wanting the latest and greatest (although personally I believe that the EVO 3D IS the latest and greatest ). But really, if there is nothing wrong with the phone and you just want something different, sell the EVO 3D and put the money toward the SGS2. If I recall Sprint's policy correctly, once you pay ETF and cancel service you cannot come back for 90 days because again, a lot of people have used that loophole too in order to maneuver their way into a newer device.

No problem. I've been a Sprint customer for 9 years (not trying to one-up or anything ) and they have changed their policies effective September 15 so I just thought you might want to know, that's all.

I left the 3D for the camera alone. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the phone had some hardware acceleration within a few apps (and possibly the homescreen?) as well as Touch Wiz having some way more practical features than Sense 3.0. The carousel is a terrible and impractical way to flip quickly to another screen. The dot slider is way WAY WAY better implementation of quick homescreen switching. And while switching from qHD was painful at first, the bigger screen, brighter/fuller colors, and faster performance (since there are less pixels to generate) was well worth the trade-off. Don't really care about resolution when it hinders the rest of the phone, even by a relatively negligible level. This is a phone that I feel like I can totally stick with for the next year. I'm no techie who absolutely needs the latest and greatest tech and switches out phones every month (I happily owned the Evo for over a year), but I wanted to switch to a phone that I'd be happy with for the next year no matter what else comes out in the next few months, just like how the Evo 4g was when I first got it.

The Evo 3D is much more sturdy, and feel more solid in the hand. It has as much if not more processing power than the SGS2. The physical camera button is superb. I love Sense, have loved it since Windows Mobile. I played with a Galaxy S II, and it is nice, the screen is great, but I flat out love HTC build quality and the Sense experience. I could easily switch to the Galaxy, but I don't feel at all compelled. I much prefer the EVO 3D

What is touchwhiz? Is it similar to HTC sense? I have an og Evo and I hate sense and I'm getting tired of custom roms because of all the bugs. I just want pure android. Any thoughts?

Anyhoo, Touchwiz is different from Sense. Just like some people don't like Sense, some don't like Touchwiz either. I personally prefer Sense, but that is just me. Touchwiz isn't bad, in fact I could probably live with it even though it just doesn't feel as smooth as Sense to me. I checked out the SGS2 because I had to go by the Electronics Express next door to the Sprint store anyway. It is a nice phone and I think a lot of people will like it. I have an upgrade I will need to use soon and I have considered getting one for one of my lines. The fact that it is a Samsung scares me a little though because we all know their history with updates and build quality of previous devices. This one feels more fragile than the EVO 3D and EVO 4G. I would not trade my EVO 3D for one but again I would consider it for one of my other lines. The best thing to do would be to just go check it out for yourself.

Great post, we are all different thats why we have different android phones to chose from. What kills me though is when someone jumps ship and then talks **** about how much faster it is compared to the evo etc... Anyway I checked out the sgs2e4gt(I couldn't type all that, LOL) and its a great looking phone, but it didn't feel any faster than my evo 3d as far as opening and closing apps, scrolling, web browsing, etc... The camera is fantastic and it is definitely years ahead of the evo 3d's camera but other than that both phones are basically the same when it comes to real world usage. If the evo 3d never came out then the sgs2e4gt would have been a fantastic upgrade from my original evo but being that I already upgraded to the evo 3d it would take a phone with incredible beast specs for me to jump ship anytime soon.

Got mine on Wednesday. Slight learning curve coming from the EVO 3D. Hard and soft button locations are a little different. Overall, I really like it, at least as much as the 3D.It's growing on me the more I use it.

I need to rtfm to find some settings for the camera. Photos are coming up in 4:3 format instead of 16:9 to fill that beautiful screen. That option does not show up in the camera app's settings.It's got to, right?

Home screen does not appear to be as customizable as I'd like. I want to kill all the icons that show up by defaut, but it looks like I'm stuck with the full size "applications" icon at the bottom of the screen, which eats up about 15% the bottom.

Played with it but coming into the store I knew that I wouldn't like it but I was willing to give it the benefit of the doubt. First off I don't like the UI and it looks and feels like your typical light weight cheap looking and feeling Samsung phone. Maybe its me but I'm not feeling all the hype about SG2.

And a cheap QSC6085 chipset from 2007 that doesn't appear to support EVDO Rev B.

I added a line, and have both phones. I must say, my 3d isn't getting used so much anymore.
The ET is DEFINITELY too light for my tastes, though, compared to basically any HTC phone I've ever owned. It was also as slippery as hell to me "out of the box".
I added a screen protector and the simple kickstand case that Sprint sells, and it now feels about right, as far as weight and the "Now,I'm-not-gonna-accidentally-sling-it-into-another-wall" things go.

Also, I've always had HTC devices, so the fact that the home button is not where I'm used to has caused me an issue about 3,658,654 times in a week, but I'm slowly adapting.

But performance-wise, vibrant-colors-wise, loud-ass-speaker-wise, call-quality-wise, speed-wise, camera-wise, browser-wise, video-playback-wise, hdmi-out-wise, and everything-just-works-wise, it's just not a contest.

I agree. I actually got some additional "hands-on" time with one that a friend of mine got. I simply did not find the performance, call quality, web browsing, and UI were any better than the EVO 3D. I know there are those who will disagree and that is their right but even the camera wasn't enough of an improvement to make me change my mind. Again, it is a good phone and if there was no EVO 3D I would probably have held out for it. Like you, while I can appreciate that every phone isn't right for everyone, I simply don't see the point in changing phones and then coming back to insinuate those who "stayed" are idiots who don't know what a decent phone is.

I went to the Epic 4G Touch for a week. At work, where I normally get one to two bars of signal on my EVO 3D, I would get intermittent service from the Epic 4G Touch. With the EVO, I would have data all day and never drop calls. With the Epic, I would constantly lose data connection and drop calls. Twice, after walking outside to get signal, I would have to restart the Epic because it would not pick up the network. It just kept saying there was no service until I restarted it. Since I spend 9 hours a day at work, I need a phone that I can count on there.

This is just my personal experience with the phone. I work on an Air Force base that doesn't have the best Sprint coverage by any means. If I worked somewhere with better coverage, then I probably would not have noticed a difference. But when I go from a consistent connection with the EVO to an intermittent one with the Epic, I just couldn't overlook it. Also, while it may be possible to fix the reception issue with a software update, Samsung doesn't really have a reputation for being quick to release updates.

So after a week with the Epic 4G Touch, I went back to the EVO 3D. The Epic was definitely a beautiful phone. I loved the design and the screen. The pictures and video it took were amazing. After having an EVO 4G and an EVO 3D, the phone did feel a little light and somewhat cheap to me. I also didn't realize how much I liked Sense until i didn't have it. Touchwiz isn't bad, but I just think that HTC got it right with sense.

while Rev B may or not be able to be done with the epic touch, only time will tell and it's still too early to say.
personaly, it's not a big deal to me. after all, I don't even use 4G all that much as I always do updates or DL apps while at home and so use wifi.

I'm sorry to hear that about Boe. Rev B looks like a dead end right now. I been sniffen around for Network Vision info, nothing but speculation. The Oct 7th announcement is not to far away now.

My 4g has been working in places the last week or so that it previously didn't work, and better signal in the places it did work. I was kinda leery of using 4G because of the battery sucking stories but I'm finding it uses less battery than 3G. Life is getting better all the time around here!!
