Evo 3d vs. Galaxy s2

And your video compares the galaxy s 2 europe 4.3 not the sprint or tmobile 4.5

is .2 in screen really gonna make a huge difference? I highly doubt itll degrade the quality one bit so that video should be a pretty close comparison.

I just got my 3d a few days ago. Love it. I never liked Samsung phones since they first came out. They always had some sort of glitch that is usually annoying. So I left Samsung alone and never went back!
:D my two cent

I'd like a 3d phone with 5" screen, in that order, so my rankings would be 1) evo3d, 2) the 4.52" s2, 3) infuse

Re: Switching from Evo 3D to Samsung Galaxy S II?

While I may miss the higher res of the EVO 3D, I'll probably forget all about that when I can actually complete phone calls and stop having clients day "can you repeat that you are all garbled at the moment".

As for the update history so many mention about Samsung - people I know with unlocked Samsungs were on 2.3.4 long before we got it on the partially unlocked EVO 3D.

I would say far superior is a very poor choice of words. I t may have some better specs but at the same time the eve 3d has different specs on its side also ex. sense 3.0

Yea but thats only dependant upon people that actually like sense, many dont. It was the first thing I wanted to get rid of when I rooted because its so bloated and uses up a ton of memory.

Ahh, but the beautiful thing about it is that you can customize your phone to your tastes. I am on a rooted stock ROM so I was able to keep Sense, which I like, yet get rid of the bloat. The SGS2 sounds like a good phone but I enjoy the features the 3D has that it doesn't, like the 3D capabilities, mhl, to allow full mirroring, and native screenshots. As for the camera in 2D, I have had no problems at all and have taken and seen some beautiful pictures posted here on the forums.

Choices are a good thing, so if the 3D isn't for you that's OK. I am just glad we have so many exciting options right now! :D

Im curious why people want to free up so much memory?? I have tons of apps on my phone approx 100 and apps to sd so I just dont understand why people worry about it.. Phone runs fast regardless.. I mean do people really notice a .2 sec difference?? Thats why I have a hard time changing from htc and I like samsung hardware.. But touch wiz sucks, my girl has the infuse.. And Updates take forever.. Sense actually brings alot to the table.. Social integration, ringtone maker, .. Etc.. Stuff like that is useful to me..

I didn't want to speak on this subject untill I've seen more info on the US phones (and yes, the US phones are quite different in both hardware and software as compared to the EU ones).

first off, the SGS2 was my top choice for my upgrade (probably due to all the hype...note, I didn't say reality, I said hype). still today I like what sprint is going to offer. the T-mobile might not be fully ready, but it should also be great. the AT&T phone is the closest to the EU phones with basicly the same hardware (including radios and screen) and seems to be also OK.

but now I'm going to tell you what all the testers are not saying to you in all the videos that you have seen on review sites across the web...

while I love the idea of the phone, it has some flaws that may or may not be deal breakers to you.
first off, while some peoples eyes are not able to see the difference between a qHD screen and a 800x640 screen when it comes to jaggies in games, text, and movies, I personaly can. the difference is not night and day when it comes to movies or type, but it can be much sharper and a lot less eye strain for people who can tell the difference when using a higher res screen. when it comes to games (and I know that many of you don't play them), there is a night and day difference even if jaggies don't bother you much and is not a distraction.
when inlarging type (say when you are reading an e-book or website), a higher res is always prefered. this is why we have 1080p TVs today. otherwise, why not stick with 720? (more important for movies and games then type, but yes, higher res is always better)

a higher res screen phone (with the same hardware inside) is always going to run slower then a lower res screen. so when you see benchmarks and they open the phone app or any other app and the evo3d is .1 or .2 seconds slower, bare in mind that it is running a higher res screen (and with all the bloat that makes Sence 3.0 so awesome for new and old android users)...and is a .1 or .2 second difference when opening your phone app really going to be noticed in real life when you only have one phone in your hand?

in head to head testing of web site loading on wifi, the evo3d mostly looses the tests but sometimes even beats the SGS2. when it looses, it is only by a moment or two AND IS DOING ALL THIS ON A HIGHER RES SCREEN. so is web exceleration a gimic or just not as advanced as all the hype claims? I'll let you think about it and deside.
if the software for website use is more or less the same on the US SGS2 phones, then the SGS2 phones wont be able to auto wrap type. at best you will now have a button on your screen and will have to touch that to wrap the type to fit your screen. the evo3d auto wraps type by default on all websites, not just web friendly ones. so to me, when reading the web on my phone, the SGS2 is far less polished.

so when it comes to many of the review sites, many of the flaws are not spoken about the SGS2 phone and results can at times be biased.

cameras I'll call a draw due to the sammy phone sofar doing great with their camera hardware and software, but the evo3d can take 3d photos and videos. I'm a real photographer and know that MP don't mean anything and a better censor and software is far more important. the rest is just hype to help sell a phone.

radios is not the stong point of samsung, but then again, hTc is not on the fore front as well. but if I had to choose, I'll go with hTc over samsung every day of the week based on history.

when it comes to updates (both for operating systems and/or bugs) samsung has a poor history. hTc has a great history.
(note: comparing a locked or semi locked phone to an unlocked one, no longer has anything to do with the companys that makes phones and is dependent on the open source community)
hTc already updated the evo3d 4 times that not only included the OS but also a ton of bugs.
I'll bet that even boe would agree with me that a working phone is far more important then a non working one, so updates to the OS is far less important then fixing major bugs.
regardless, 4 updates total and one of them going from 2.3.3 to 2.3.4, all in under two months is something that other phone companys need to learn to do.

so with all this said, I still like the SGS2 phone. I'm even trying to push in on my nephew.
but when I got a great working phone that has almost no problems (mirror is gone, but I never used it anyway, and I can't use the new 4G radio update due to it makes my camera no longer work. but my radios work beyond awesome, so who cares), why should I temped fate and try a phone that is no better then mine?

As a photographer what are your ideal setting for the 3D because I have just about given up on the 3D's camera - love the rest of the phone. I had an infuse and that camera blew the 3D's camera away. Thanks.

Re: Switching from Evo 3D to Samsung Galaxy S II?

I checked out the INFUSE at the ATT store and let me tell you....there were no pixel issues to be seen.

For me at least, reading was easier on the Infuse due the better blacks.

I had and infuse and the diffrence is immense. It is definitely not an issue but is is very obvious.

Why even compare? Its like comparing a Dodge Neon with a Dodge Viper. The S2 is far superior.

They are much more comparable than you think. That being said the GS2 gets the nod if ever so slightly. You got to remember that the 3d has capabilities, namely 3d pics, games, movies, videos, that the GS2 simply don't have. There is nothing that the GS2 can do that the 3D can't even it not to the same degree. Everything is debatable to me except the pic and video quality of the GS2 which is far superior. The screen is debatable because a person like me prefers the better resolution of the 3d. I had an infuse for two weeks and thought the screen was very vivid and colors jumped off the screen but the 3d made it look like a joke when it came to resolution especially on websites and ebooks. The 3d video (media playback) was also much crisper, clearer due to the packed pixels. Oh btw, i will be getting the Sprint version as soon as its available on 9/16 but I like the 3D so much that I will not sell it.

I keep my settings, set up and keep them like this for 90% my shots:

ISO: 200
exposure: 0 (if bright light outside, I may change it to -1, but I mostly leave this alone)
contrast: -1
saturation: 0 (I have played with +1 but feel it can be too much for most shots, and -1 is too little...YMMV for this or any setting as your camera and/or subject matter my be quite differnt then mine)
sharpness: +1
auto enhance: on (but I'm debating this, and not sure I'll keep it on)

white balance is for the most part all that I change. incandescent for indoors, daylight for outdoors. if using flash then you can leave it on auto.

I will use ISO 400 for low light. ISO 800 for low light without flash. keeping the ISO set to auto will cause the setting to use what I think is ISO200 in low light and then cause camera shake or motion blur from your subject due to too low of a shutter speed.

I know this sounds complicated, but again, I leave most settings alone and just fool around with white balance when needed.

I am in no way saying that the camera on the evo3d is the best camera phone. but for a quick shot when not having my camera on me, it will do. the 3D photos and videos have been used far more then I thought I would and seems to be quite good. here is still one of my favorite 3D videos...

Not stirring anything I just wanted to note that the GS2 does MHL full 1080p mirroring. It also does native screenshots by holding home soft key and power button at the same time. International version uses the home button and power key at the same time. I also wanted to note to someone's earlier post that Sprints version also has an LED notification light.

You are correct. I have been meaning to state that to clear things up and keep forgetting. Thanks

I was not aware of that... Thank you. Still keeping my EVO 3D though! ;)

Switching to sgsII when it comes out

Anyone else thinking the same thing? I am out of contract so i will have to drop the 499 price for the phone. However, i have a ton of accessories to throw in when i sell my evo3d such as 4000mah battery, otterbox case, case-mate hardshell case, and the active extended battery case from seidio. Also the car navigation unit from igrip ( I thnk). Will all these great accessories i think i canget up to the 400s asking price and maybe more. I just love the ton of features the SGSII has and will be giving the new iphone a run for its money....

I for one will be switching to the SGS2 when it drops in a little over a week. I can not wait.
