Evo 4g lte or samsung galaxy s3

Some of your reasoning is personal preference and some of it isn't quite accurate. I have the OG EVO and I used the kickstand probably twice in 18 months. Now the kickstand is messed up and pops out on its own and is messed up. I'm not happy with it sticking out, especially considering I never used it in the first place.

The Samsung camera has burst mode as well and also a feature so it will pick the best focused picture. I am not sure about slow motion mode but the camera features are probably pretty close. I'm not sure which one has the best looking prictures but I don't think you can declare the EVO LTE to have the better camera right now.

Some people like Sense some people don't, so again that's a personal preference.

The screen is definitely better on the EVO, no argument there.

IF the Samsung radios continue to suck then that would be the main reason I chose the EVO LTE over the GIII. I am probably going to leave Sprint since their 3G network is killing me and VZW has had 4G in my area for quite some time already. If I stay with Sprint I would probably go with the LTE, unless the radio issues are fixed and then I would probably go with the GIII. Everyone has their own needs and wants though and both of these phones are so good I think it comes down to personal preferences more than anything.

Hence "Evo wins for ME".

1- The reviews I read said the HTC camera features were better. Camera quality is a wash I'm sure.

2- I think the vast majority all agree Sense beats touchwiz and always has.

3- Having a kick stand is better than having no kick stand :).

My statements were completely pointed as a Sprint customer. I wish I had the money to spend on Verizon but I don't and burn through a lot of data for work via tethering etc. If I had the option of switching (if cost was not an issue) to Verizon's LTE Network with the S3 vs Sprints with the EVO...I'd probably do it. I really really like this EVO but the S3 will be a great phone as well even if I don't like the screen.

For me.. I am on verge of returning the Evo but seriously considering keeping now :)

How safe is burning cooked ROMs ? is the process reversible in terms of warranty etc?

The process of rooting is so far VERY safe in reference to standard rooting. Some methods at the moment require you to use HTCUnlock method which may void your warrenty with HTC. That being said there are countless reports of no one at sprint or best buy caring about this. I just traded in my EVO3D that was rooted with a custom rom for 110$. No one cared or dug around in it.

Go over to XDA and check it out. A lot of high profile devs are already on it.

Thanks !

I pondered this for weeks before deciding to purchase the Evo LTE. I really don't like samsung's user interface. It's buggy, cartoonish, and no better with ICS.

HTC Sense UI is much easier on the eyes, and most of the differences between Sense and default ICS make sense.....(no pun intended). I'd go with the EVO.

svineyard - who are you going with... viper ROM I guess ? he seems to have most veiws/replies :)

And I personally can't stand the AMOLED display - everything seems so artificial and oversaturated.

For the briefest of moments I was also contemplating exchanging for the S3 (only because of the ram issues) until I seen it had that display. No thanks. The Evo's display is the best I have seen, I was in the car the other day and I was sitting waiting for someone in the sun. I could see my LEVO's display perfectly even with sunglasses on..in the sun. Yep that's a keeper.

The only hardware-related gripe I have with the EVO is the location of the USB port - it should be on the bottom where God intended it to be, not the side.

Oh Hell yes! I completely agree! That is my only real gripe as well. What advantage does it have being on the side? To me it just gets in the way!!

Well said, sir. Everyone's needs are not the same and so there really isn't a standard answer to which phone is better. I think both will prove to be great phones in their own right. I was waiting and hoping for VZW to get a variant of the HTC One series but I tihnk I am just wasting my time unfortunately. I wish Sprint would have a better network so I could stick with them and get the EVO LTE.

I currently have a 20% discount from my old employer and once I leave Sprint I won't be able to ever get that back. My current employer does offer a 18% discount for VZW and my good friend works at AT&T and can get me 24% discount so I am lucky. I am able to choose from either three providers and still get a discount. I think the EVO LTE could be the best phone but I think the GIII will be close enough to it that I can switch without worrying about having a much inferior phone. Before the GIII there wasn't a single phone on VZW I was impressed with.

For the people talking about the side USB port. I hate that location as well. My gf is on VZW and has the TB and it's on the side. It is so much easier pluuing in the charger to my EVO than her TB, it's not even close. I can only guess that HTC did it out of necessity rather than design when the put the USB port on the side.

My evo lte is going back tomorrow. Some people are getting faster 3g speeds, but mine have been terrible. This is going put an end to my 10 year run with sprint. unlimited data doesn't do me any good if I'm only getting 100 kbps. Hopefully sprint is still unlimited whentthey get lte in my area in 2-3 years, because its back to my OG evo for now until I get the s3, but for Verizon.

Dude, I know how you feel, although my data speeds arent always that bad. Wait it out if you can, Sprint's network will be much better in a few months, depeding on where you live, it could be a little longer. For me, its a small price to pay to keep unlimited data.

Hardware specs are very close for the US versions. Same cpu/gpu. 2GB ram vs the superior SLCD2 screen. Evos 1GB is still more than enough and the SIIIs screen will still be great. Comes down to a software prefrence.

So whats the story on the GS3 GPU vs. EVO LTE's GPU? A few posts before this one someone mentioned the GS3 has a much better GPU than the EVO LTE.

Basically, with similar specs, it's all about personal preference of whether you like TouchWiz or Sense.

Specs may be similar, but build quality (cheap plasticity feel on Samsung ) and hardware quality (poor radios on Samsung) are firmly in the EVO's favor.
UI's (Sense vs Touchwiz) are easily correctable with 3rd party launchers and/or rooting/ROMing.
So again, it comes down to the hardware and what you prefer to hold in your hand.

I think either one of these phones will pound iPhone into dust. End result is that Android, and the consumer, wins.

Question, since they're both using the S4 SOC, shouldn't they have the same radios?

Yea technically , however subtract the nee parts in the s3 and Sammy took the s2 and combined or with nexus. Same components. WiFi signal on any Samsung will blow balls

The GPU is built into the CPU, all of the US variants of the GS3 and One X have the Snapdragon S4 with the Adreno 225 GPU.

My main problem with the EVO is the multitasking. To me, the s3 is already 2x better with working multitasking.

I have 2-3 days within my return window to decide if I want to swap out for the GS3.

For me personally, most of the specs/design/features are pretty much even. Screen, RAM, TouchWiz/Sense aren't making me sway one way or another. There's only a few things that make me waver between the two phones.

Reasons why I want the GS3:
- Better multi-tasking out of the box (I'm assuming HTC will improve with OTA updates or with custom ROMs)
- Better video camera

Reasons why I want to keep my EVO:
- Sturdier build quality
- Better photo camera (quality and features)
- Samsung's bad reputation with GPS/signal issues

The one thing that I haven't seen answered anywhere is if the GS3 can better handle the external SD card vs the internal memory. Will there still be the embedded "ext_sd" folder linking the two? Can we direct apps to use the external SD card?

I'm constantly scanning the GS3 forums to see people's issues compared with the issues everybody is having with their EVO's. I'm assuming even with a CDMA variant, production quality will be about the same with their international version.

HTC said the multitasking is correct and they won't fix it. Some people say this is why the s3 has 2gb in the s4 version. Snapdragons supposedly take up a lot of ram

I was excited to get the EVO until I went to the store and held it. The flatness of the phone along with the square edges felt extremely awkward when used one-handedly. My current NS4G feels great and so does the Galaxy Nexus when I tried that. I'd definitely get the EVO in a heartbeat if it was inside the chassis of the GN. I generally like TPU cases (the thinnest possible) and would get one for the EVO so perhaps that would mitigate the feel of the phone. With the GS3 coming out soon, I think I'll wait to compare holding the two phones. But from photos/videos, it seems the GS3 has a more comfortable shape to hold.

So I'm curious if most of you guys use the EVO with one hand or two? Do you find the EVO's shape awkward? Did you get a case and did that make any difference?
