Evo 4g lte or samsung galaxy s3

EVO... I can't put it down. I just got it today from Wirefly. It's so fast with the new processor and the screen is unbeatable. All of the features are soooo well integrated out-of-box. It's super quick with everything that uses a connection. I found and connected to a new WiFi in 2 seconds. My only gripe is that I need to use my pinky to pull out the kickstand bc it's thin, but once I get used it I will love it because it is super-sturdy - I can set it down in three different positions. The HD video quality is amazing. I never cared much about video quality, but now seeing it and noticing how accurate the typing and touch is, I won't go back if I can afford it. I can't wait until Sprint enables HD sound to hear all calls in super-clear quality. The new camera is amazing... the Effects menu that is right on top has everything you could want to tweak your pictures as you take them (almost). I love the way my EVO LTE stares at me...we're going to grow old together for sure. Anyway, I am attaching some pics I just took with the EVO LTE today... 1 with no effects and the rest with random effects.

I prefer a more solid feel in my hand. So I'm assuming the evoLTE would be best for me. I hate that loose plasticy feel. With the cheap plastic back cover. Disappointed at the SG3 not having a more solid build. As bad as I am a cpu-processor power whore. The SG3 is not amazingly faster then the evoLTE. I'm not going to take another risk on a samsung product. They "are" glitchy, bad radios, and cheap fragile feel. My last samsung product was a 7" samsung galaxy tab plus. Boy was it a disappointment. It wasn't all that bad. I tried real hard to like it dispite the bugs and glitches, but the price I payed for it. It was my lost. Samsung products r always pricier compared to the competition.

Multitasking question

My main problem with the EVO is the multitasking. To me, the s3 is already 2x better with working multitasking.

From what I have been reading it appears to me that if I am on a call and I have to switch to my email in order to read one that have already received to the person that I am speaking with one the phone I won't be able to do that.

I am I correct in my understanding of the multitasking problem?

If so the EVO is absolutely a nonstarter for me. I also dislike Samsung products so I will have to wait until HTC corrects the problem or the next great phone comes along to replace my OGEVO 4G

Just a couple of days ago I was on a call to a friend, and was able to switch to my email. I didn't have any problem switching, didn't lose the call, and was able to read some info to her from a previously received email.

This is absolutely incorrect. Email / browsing has been working flawlessly for me while on phone calls. I am not saying multitasking is working 100%, but zero issues on what you mentioned above. Youcan go test this in Sprint also.

Just read in the AC review that the Galaxy 3 handles storage better than the EVO.

EVO LTE:
~2GB for apps
~9GB "virtual" SD: all app data goes there
Real SD card: for media

GS3
~11GB for apps and data
~Real SD card

I really wish the EVO did the same.

I was excited to get the EVO until I went to the store and held it. The flatness of the phone along with the square edges felt extremely awkward when used one-handedly. My current NS4G feels great and so does the Galaxy Nexus when I tried that. I'd definitely get the EVO in a heartbeat if it was inside the chassis of the GN. I generally like TPU cases (the thinnest possible) and would get one for the EVO so perhaps that would mitigate the feel of the phone. With the GS3 coming out soon, I think I'll wait to compare holding the two phones. But from photos/videos, it seems the GS3 has a more comfortable shape to hold.

So I'm curious if most of you guys use the EVO with one hand or two? Do you find the EVO's shape awkward? Did you get a case and did that make any difference?

I have my Evo in a Seidio Surface Case. I think the phone is too thin without a case and wasn't very comfortable to hold. I think the phone is much nicer to hold with a case on it.

I tend to agree with that as well, I don't know why we can't use all of the phones internal storage for apps.. never made sense to me. That said, I've installed all of the apps I'll probably use on my E4GLTE and I still have 1.85gb available so I'm not really that worried.

I'm torn, I have the evo lte and I do love it buuut, there are some things that are already pissing me off about the phone.

1) Multitasking is an absolute , if I am driving and listening to 8tracks or tune in or whatever, if I get a text message and check it, it turns off the radio I was listening too. Very annoying and many more issues like this.

2)3g connectivity-again I was driving at work yesterday, and with numerous applications I had to reconnect to internet because the 3g wasn't going. Constantly pushing reconnect until it finally does...super annoying. Because of it, I've been receiving texts and emails late.

3) Beats audio doesn't wow me at all, in fact, I haven't noticed a damn change in sound when I push on or off on the button.

4) I can't justify locking in to a 2 year contract with sprint especially with these issues that I'm not sure will ever be fixed.

I had the samsung epic 4g, moved on to the htc evo 3d, now to the evo lte. But I think I'm going back with sammy, I just don't know if that is the best idea. Very torn, I guess if I don't like the sammy then I can go back to htc?

I have the EVO LTE...keeping it. Reasons why I'M keeping it (I had the Epic Touch & Epic 4G previously)

*GPS locks near instant on my EVO.... Samsungs don't, mine didn't

*SLCD2 is crisper/sharper. i love the color pop of AMOLED but once you see SLCD2 beside it the AMOLED suddenly looks a bit fuzzy

*Specs are too close to be a factor

*Custom Rom support will be better on EVO, period. CR support on Samsungs has always been sparse...best you could hope for was CM or MIUI...and even then there was a real risk at bricking the phone. I learned the hard way as did many others.

*The large battery in the EVO makes removable batteries moot. Of all the smart phones i've owned (6 now) i have never had a separate battery and charger....my battery always stayed in the phone....i just chaged it whenever i could or had too :)

*Hardware aside it comes down to software. GS3 has some neat features, svoice and the eye tracking for screen on and off...but seriously, svoice has already been stripped out and i'm sure the rest will to so EVO will get that functionality i'm sure ;)

Only way to tell is to play with both and see which one you like the most. Other then that hardware is going to be about the same. As for radios no one can comment on that as the phone isnt out in the US and not all samsung devices have bad radios.

Have the EVO and at the moment I'm being torn for what I think ate legit reasons.

I don't game so that's not a concern...I actually use my phone for communication purposes :)...probably 40 calls a day and numerous texts and emails for work.

My thoughts are as follows:

Radios.....the EVO isn't doing any show stopping here. WIFI on mine disconnects (yup...tweaked even) and 3G disconnects at times where my wifes old Galaxy keyboard contraption is still going strong. I quite honestly never had an issue with the radios on my SII. GPS sucked but two real time reviews I have seen on the SIII shows GPS to work great...and I have a nice Garmin anyway.

Call Quality....I wear hearing aids so call quality is really important. While the EVO seems fine on the earpiece, the rear speaker although very clear is a bit subdued. I have read two reviews now where they note that both the earpiece and rear speaker on the SIII is the best they have ever experienced. Granted, this is subjective.

Camera....what HTC gave us doesn't live up to the hype. I am a widely published photographer (in my dwindling spare time) and while I never expect to use a cell phone camera for anything serious, I do use it a lot for work pictures. The EVO camera in my trained eyes is not as good as the SII camera was. It is sharper than the SIII images but overall not as good.....again subjective, but given that I shoot 100-2500 images a week of wildlife and landscapes, I have a pretty good idea of what's what photo wise.

Screen....I honestly think this will be a tossup and either will be excellent once you are accustomed to them. While I like the more natural subdued colors of the EVO, you can turn the SIII gaudiness down. I spend a lot of time in airports and reading email / web stuff on the phone and having a more contrasty screen for that alone may make the SIII better on my eyes.

Ergonomics.....I can't remotely comment on this till I have an SIII in my palm to try it out.

Menu button.....I do miss it and hate the lost screen real estate in most apps currently on the EVO.

Removable battery....HUGE. Having gone through two EVO's early on which locked up and wouldn't reboot and with no way to pull the battery...I would have loved to have one I could have yanked out to see if it helped.

Honestly...I think the desicion will come down to whatever little nuances work best for each individual user and neither one will blow the other away. The EVO will be as they have on their splash screen "Quietly Brilliant" and the SIII will be in your face fast gimmicky gaudiness....but if there are enough pluses for one vs the other for my own personal use, that's the way I will go.

I'm wait for the same reason, because I can run out of application space pretty easy on the EVO. I do like sense better, But I use Launcher Pro on my OG EVO.

I think the deciding factor withe removable battery, because we all know 4G suck battery life, I don't believe WiMax Vs Lte will change this, but I could be wrong ( am secretly, hope I am)
When Using LTE 4G, I feel the need might arise more to change a battery, and having that option nice!

I really and waiting for a 4g LTE battery test, between the two phones. I think the S3 will prevail based on the AC article
The combination of chip, battery and software makes for some impressive battery life on Samsung?s quad-core behemoth. Even under the most strenuous workload, we struggled to kill it off in under 12 hours, and with normal-to-heavy real world usage, we were regularly getting 17 to 18 hours out of the S III before the battery meter started to hit the 30% mark. To put that in perspective, it?s roughly comparable to what we get out of the Galaxy Nexus with its 2000mAh extended battery.

I really want to see some pictures of s3 compared to my Evo LTE. I'm really big on camera quality.

Exactly how many apps do you think it will take to "run out of space"? I've already loaded well over 100 apps onto my Evo and barely hit 600mb and that's before even transferring any apps to the 9gb storage. 2gb is plenty of space to fill your phone with more apps that anyone will ever need.

The 9GB is what I'm more worried about. One gameloft game can take up 1GB of that 9.

The US version of the S3 will have the same CPU (dual-core Qualcomm MSM8960) & GPU (Adreno 225) as the Evo LTE. Supposedly the S3 will have more RAM, but we'll see how the US carriers manage to screw up their repsective models.

I'm coming from an Epic 4g (the two year old model), and putting them side by side is a little disappointing. The Epic's screen is brighter, while the Evo's screen is washed out. Both set to maximum brightness, the Epic's whites are more white, and blacks are so dark it is nearly seamless with the bezel.

To be fair without the Epic to compare, the Evo's screen is very sexy. You wouldn't be able to tell how bad it is otherwise.

The build quality is excellent, it feels like a very solid phone. It is extremely quick, I love this side of it. ICS is annoying, the missing menu button and lack of control from the notification bar is very apparent. If I want to turn wireless on from within an application, it's pretty annoying to back out of it to turn it on. Same for GPS.

I also dropped money on this phone and will not change it. As somebody who also reads reviews I tend to skip looking for the bad ones so I know what to expect and hope this helps somebody. There are plenty of posts with praise, and I agree with them all.

I'm the type that has 6+ batteries that i buy off ebay for approx $3 each. The Galaxy won me over hands down with the fact i can buy batteries. the Htc Evo 4g LTE wont allow that. Plus software updates got to the galaxy phones first...then trickles down to htc. i've always hated waiting. I'll wait for the Galaxy S3
