Evo 4g lte or samsung galaxy s3

I don't know just me but if HTC could push SW update fix or improve pixels on pictures I would be happier.

Hello all, I found this site and thread by doing a Google search for Evo 4g LTE vs Galaxy S3. I have read through many of the responses and will post my own.

I am the current owner of a Samsung Moment, one of the first real smartphones released for the Android OS. I purchased the phone in November of 2009, and I am more than ready to unload it. This phone has been a nightmare for the past 2.5 years I've owned it. I have had so many problems with it, it's not even worth discussing. But strangely enough, I have decided to go with the S3 over the Evo even though I initially swore off ever owning a Samsung smartphone again. Here are my reasons (in no particular order):

1. 2 gigs of ram vs 1 gig. It may not make a huge difference now, but since I'm not one of those people who goes and drops $700 every six months on the latest and greatest smartphone, the extra gig is a future proof feature.

2. Android 4.0.4 for the S3 vs Android 4.0.3 for the Evo. This isn't a huge deal, as software can be updated easily enough, but I'm confused about HTC's decision to send out their flagship phone without the newest version of the Android OS. From what I have read, Google made lots of improvements and security fixes from 4.0.3 to 4.0.4. I don't know if HTC is planning on skipping 4.0.4 and going right to 4.0.5, but again, I see this as an oversight on their part.

3. 1.9 MP in the S3 vs 1.3 MP in the EVO, front facing cameras. Not a huge deal, but it should make Skype mobile run that much smoother. It's a little thing, but the little things count to me.

4. 32 gig of internal storage in the S3 vs 16 gigs of storage in the EVO. Not only can you get the phone with more internal memory, but the S3 can take a 64 gig SD card, while the max for the EVO is 32 gigs. As anyone who has lots of music (I have about 40 gigs of MP3's on my computer, as I rip them at 320 Kbps), photos, and video, even 96 gigs goes fast.

5. Lastly, a removable 2100 mAh li-ion battery vs a non-removable 2000 mAh li-ion battery. I don't understand the decision to make the battery non-removable, is HTC trying to ape the Apple model? If I want to swipe out a more powerful battery for the stock, or if the stock battery begins to stop holding a charge, you're pretty much screwed with the HTC. Again, another oversight as far as I'm concerned.

As far as the other features, they are pretty much a wash. I have read the screen is a little better on the EVO, but I'm sure it's a small difference at that. Some people like Sense more than Swype, but that really doesn't matter much to me. I have also read people complaining about the radios in Samsung phones, and I can attest to my Moment having horrible GPS lock (one of the many reasons I hate the phone), but nobody knows what the radio quality will be with the NA version of the S3. There is always a two to four week return period depending on where the phone is purchased, so I'm willing to give Samsung another shot as far as that goes. Also, I have read people complaining about the plastics Samsung uses in the construction of their phones. It's pretty well known that plastic is great for reception, and any phone I purchase will be covered in an Otterbox Defender case, so again, not a factor for me.

Apologies for my long post, but I just wanted to put out there why the decision was made easy for me. The S3 simply is a better future proof phone. I suppose if you're one of those people who spends crazy money to buy a phone out of contract every six months, that won't matter to you, but for someone like me who buys the best they can and then tries to hold on to it for as long as possible, it makes a difference.

Good luck to all, both phones look fantastic and I'm sure both will make their owners very happy.

This is not correct. You can use a 64GB card in the EVO LTE, it is just not advertised as such.

This has been covered over and over again. By having a non-swappable battery, the phone is thinner, lighter, and better sealed. You *CAN* replace the battery, but it requires removing a few screws to remove the back.

I have read the screen is a little better on the EVO, but I'm sure it's a small difference at that.

I have not seen both together, but from most of the reviews I have read, the EVO LTE/One X screen is much better (brighter, sharper).

Well thank you for the heads up, I didn't know that.

Well that doesn't make much sense, as both phones weigh the same, and the S3 is slightly thinner. I'm sure removing the battery on the EVO voids the manufacture warranty, as it's listed as non-removable.

Yes, I acknowledged the screen on the EVO is better, but from reviews I have read, it's a small difference, not a large one as you allude to. The real test will be to lay the phones side by side and look at the same images. I can deal with a slightly inferior screen for all the other advantages the S3 brings to the table over the EVO.

Does the Samsung come with free drop box? HTC gives you free 25gb.

I've been using the Evo LTE for almost three weeks now and I ordered the s3 too for my wife...haha unless I really like it she gets the Evo. But I have to say this phone is amazing, HTC really did a good job this time. Everything about this phone is amazing and to think HD voice is coming.

I did buy the HD media adapter for my TV and I can wirelessly stream my videos and play HD YouTube videos flawlessly on my Samsung LED! Looks better then anything I've seen. If I could play movies onto my TV now from this adapter or directly would top it off.

There are so many different options in the phone to customize texting, layout, colors and much more with out downloading any apps off the market.

I also just got the Bluetooth adapter for my car and have been playing Pandora and the sound is amazing with the new beats audio. I still have to see the Samsung but this HTC is seriously one bad @ss phone. For me to switch the Samsung will have to seriously wow me above and beyond belief cause this HTC is the real deal.

Something else to consider is if your really into Facebook the HTC syncs up beautifully with Facebook. Hopefully Samsung has thought of these things too.

Yes. Samsung actually offers 50gb of Dropbox.

I personally am going to buy the LTEvo because I am not an extreme power user who needs instant multitasking, but the Evo is still fast enough. Also, the design of the hardware and software is miles better in my opinion.

You really can't go wrong.

Okay here's a question for you dropbox users...

Essentially when using your music thru drop box you are streaming correct? If so why? Why not just get a 64 gig card and have all your music and what not easily accessible? While i get good 3g service, i would not want to have to drain my battery streaming my own library of material.

Please correct me if i'm wrong

Hi I'm on the fence about this. I currently own a SG2 and will I notice a big difference between the EVO 4G and the SG3? I'm tempted to preorder a 32gb SG3 but I don't really want to go a week without a phone, and the EVO 4G's screen looks very good and there are a lot of features I like on the EVO.

Did you make your decision yet? :) One vote for Galaxy s3 because I already played around enough with EVO 4G LTE.

I'm going to try the phone out in the store. It's really a toss up. I'm really tired of the glitchy, bad reception SG2. Does the HTC really have much better radio?

I'm tempted to pull the trigger on the 32GB SG3, but knowing how my SG2 performed and the feel of the phone, the HTC seems temping. I guess I'll go with the EVO because I am going to my friend's house in the bay area on the 15th and giving him my old SG2.

Lol same idea, Wife pre-ordered hers and I plan to play with it for like 5-10 hours if she'll let me then decide if I swap it out at best buy (I will have 2 days left on my 30 day return). This will be interesting. I've always been more of an HTC guy and love my Evo but if anything could bring me to the dark side it might be the S3.....

BEWARE!!! Best Buy is 14 days, not 30. I just called today and they told me that its because the carrier policy is 14 days they have to go by that or they would be breaking their contract with the carriers. Is this true?

I picked up my EVO LTE on 6/2 and would loved to get the SGS3 on the 21st and compare side by side.

EDIT: I just saw another post that says Best Buy's policy is 14 days to reverse the contract and 30 days to exchange the phone so you should be ok.

Don't want to be off topic but in regards to Best Buy return policy would it work if I returned my EVO which I got on May 24th and picked up the S3... but, if I didn't love the S3 return it and pick up another EVO?

My mom has the og evo 4g and it gets amazing reception even without modifying the data menu. My phone only pulls 1 bar in our house where hers is constantly pulling at least 3 when we are in the same room. Not to mention her data speeds are triple mine.

It really depends on personal preference I've heard the new evo is horrible at multitasking but its not a problem to me because I don't multitask plus I love the new sense UI.

I'm going to have to try the EVO out before making a decision. I am probably getting a 32gb SG3. I don't like being limited on my phone storage, and I really liked my SG2. However the radio on the SG2 is really killing my enjoyment of the phone. I am wondering if I can buy the phone and then decide the same day whether to keep it? I'm going to buy it at a Sprint store.

So went to best buy to return my LTE for a new one and also decided to pre order the s3. I've had the og, 3d and now LTE from launch so HTC is all I've owned last few years. This phone is bad ass but there's a few things that I just can't stand like multitasking. If you can even call it that. I just can't understand why HTC would do this???? To make even worse they don't recognize it as a problem. I really do enjoy this phone but it has to many short comings and is the reason why I will be returning this on the 21st to give the s3 a "chance". I've been reading a lot on temp fixes for example to fix the HTC reloads use nova launcher. The reason why I and most people bought and keep buying HTC phones is we like sense and they're widgets compared to Sammy and they're touch wiz and moto blur. You use any other launcher and say good buy to sense widgets and if that's the case if I would prefer it on a phone with more power like 2gigs of ram that would more than likely woop bloaty sense into shape. Probably would fix multitasking too. And yes I said fix sorry HTC but what you did with this EVO is not multitasking.

So I was holding out for the White LTEvo, but after reading so many complaints about the horrible multitasking and other complaints, I've been leaning more towards the Galaxy.
The screen is supposedly better on the LTEvo but I wonder by how much; plus the extra GB of RAM makes up for that.
S-Voice means nothing.
However, i have to see if the S3 addresses the radio issues present in several other Sammy phones.
