Evo 4G update to Froyo OFFICIAL August 3rd (OLD)

i updated and now i just get a slowly flashing image of a android dude with an arrow coming out of a box. DID I JUST BRICK MY EVO?

SCRATCH THAT - my froyo is up and RUNNING YEAH! HALLELUHYA (IDC if i spelt that wrong)

Wooh, well it goes to show what you can accomplish when theres nothing else to do... haha.

IM really happy in case you could not tell. :D

Is friendstream or peep working for you? I'm getting a "The service is currently unavailable. Do you want to try again?" message.

*FIX*
Reboot and all the services now work.

So far, besides some apparent speed increases (and possibly better battery life/management?), the biggest thing I've noticed is that the USB connection to my Mac now works as expected. With 2.1, the EVO ALWAYS mounted as a drive, whether I'd chosen "Charge only" or not. Now it doesn't mount if I've made that selection. On the other hand, if I change it to Disc mode, it doesn't unmount when changed back to Charge only. No biggie, though. I'm just glad it's working better now. No more "You have disconnected your external drive incorrectly..." crap. w00t!

yep signature verification failed
installation aborted.

has been renamed to update.zip so thats not the issue for me

My peep, friendstream and everything else is working perfectly. BUT i might be in a different circumstance then you, before updating to 2.2 i was rooted with unrevoked 3.

I think i might have root still for some reason... testing now...

Not sure if my flash works yet (give me a site with flash and ill check) but everything is
snappy and quick, my wi-fi range is better (i now get full bars throughout my whole house), and the flashlight is badass.

haha testing other stuff now. If theres anything anyone wants me to test. tell me now. :)

OH, and i have the .3 version of the update. (i dont know if that really means anything)

Make sure it's not "update.zip.zip" as some people have extensions hidden on their machines, this has been an issue. I really wish MS would ship Windows without that option on as default. It causes more problems than it's worth. Not to mention it makes a machine much less secure.

So, if you named it "update.zip" try renaming it simply "update"

animation software, multimedia software | Adobe Flash Professional CS5

Updated and running froyo without any glaring problems for a few hours now.

Screen orientation working in both directions now which is cool...flash working well...flashlight kind of fun and it has an SOS mode for the next time i am lost in the woods and cannot scream...

only small issues: more apps seem to be waking up in the background more often (although power drain does not seem to be more) and when I am using the browser in landscape orientation it does not seem to be scrolling well (but may only be on sites with flash)

So far...damn happy I installed it!

I smell something funny with this .3 version lol. When I goto Facebook, at the bottom of the screen it asks me if I want to download the facebook app to my Droid X. I started from a non-rooted regular EVO with the first 2 updates installed, put this file on and now it thinks I'm running a Droid X? Another funny thing: I switched to Pin Lock, and I can unlock without the Pin? All the other bells and whistles work great though. I'll be glad to do the official update for EVO when it comes out, just to get that Droid X taste out of my mouth.. Flashlight is awesome, camcorder LED is really nice. I even played an old Flash game (Dark Tower), and watched a Flash movie over 3G. A good example of speeds and sites is Ninjai: The Little Ninja - Home Page (choose the Karma Kula movie, you get to choose the 'Low' speed version which takes less time and runs real smooth).

My Evo ate your Droid X /burp.

No, it works even when your rooted. It WILL break your root though, or at least thats what happened to me. Superuser permissions is still on my apps but wi-fi tether doesnt work, thats the only thing i use root for is tether, so maybe other root apps work.

BOTTOMLINE - If you are rooted, go ahead and update nothing bad will happen. UNLESS you have a custom rom already flashed on, in that case, unroot and go for it.

if you ever noticed FB before it thought you had a Nexus one.
So I wouldnt worry about that.

Hacked keyboards no longer work though. I tried HTC Mime and Droid X board and both continous force close.

and to confirm I was rooted also, but put my stock rom back on earlier today for good measure

So far, i'm loving all of the bells and whistles as other people have mentioned. The only issue I am experiencing so far is sluggish scrolling on landscape mode on sites with flash. Everything else is nice.

Think that when the official OTA comes out us users who have jumped the ship early will have it available to install?

I was a bit confused by the lock thing at first, too, since I didn't change any settings on it and suddenly I was getting access to my phone without having to input my security pattern. But - go into your security settings and check the settings for your pin. There should now be a separate delay for system lock. So your screen can black out (or be blacked out by pressing the power button) at a shorter interval than the lock initiates. Which is actually kind of cool. Now I can set my screen to shut down at one minute and have it stay unlocked until, say, three minutes. So if I'm picking it up and putting it down a lot, I don't have to re-enter my pattern every time.

Works great.. flash works great. the camera starts off not working you have to wait a little bit and then try..I freaked out at first but then went back after about 5 minutes and it worked..this update has made this phone in to something amazing..I can view any site like its on my computer with all the animations. this is the greatest handset I ever owned

Am I like the only one who did'nt get 2.2 yet? My phone hasn't found or gotten the Update still!
