Evo 4G update to Froyo OFFICIAL August 3rd (OLD)

Just reported, Evo 4g Froyo 2.2 is the not final version

Hey guys I just want to let everyone know that the HTC Evo 4g Froyo 2.2 update that was a manual install update was NOT the final version. HTC has removed the update and has stated that it is not recommended that you do not install this version. Lol well to late for me and a lot of others, but engadget.com has reported the latest update from HTC about the update.

Update working well so far, no issues for me as I've been putting the phone through it's paces the past few hours. All my apps and settings were intact after update.

I installed this over a stock version of the previous OS so maybe that is why in my case not running into some of the other issues (flash, browser) that others have.

The zip file that you downloaded... You have to rename it update Not update.zip because the file will then be update.zip.zip

Find the zip file you downloaded on your computer and just rename it update

Then plug your phone to ur computer and make sure you hit disk drive on your phone. open your phone files and just drop the update file to your phones sd and then follow the other directions in the list I showed you.

thats what i was doing wrong, i was naming in "update.zip" thank you

Gosh, who saw that coming. :)

Try removing Swype through manage applications...keeping the swype installer...and then relaunch the installer. It will ask for your user name/password and download the correct version for 2.2

Thanks.... Worked like a charm.... 2.2 up and running.. No problems with the camera or flash sites... Seems to be working great.... Swype reinstalled and rocking...

I was successful loading. I waited patiently for everything to finish and did not rush it once it got to making Sense available. It took another 10 minutes or so to get rid of the syncing icon in the status bar. I waited for that to go away completely before trying to use the EVO.

I just finished a couple of games of Bejeweled Blitz on Facebook. That it works at all is amazing to see!
Camera working great
Camcorder working great. Interesting that H.264 only goes up to 800x480 not 720P

"HTC just shot us a message to clarify that this is not the final ROM version and that the company is strongly recommending not to install this. Additionally, a request has been put in to remove the file from the server, so if you still want to try at your own risk"

I did get the file (and did not install it), and as I posted previously, the md5sum is f81bf01a24c7a6fc36dce561b9391360 so it will be fascinating to compare to the "official" file when it comes out to see if it really is the same file. Place your bets...

Lol hulu still don't work hahaha but its cool cuz my browser has been flying thru websites and everything has loaded in very quick. I'm loving the speed of the phone

Facebook still does not update the photo's vs what is physically on the website... Even my own picture is still one from probably a month ago..... Every thing else seems to be working just fine... Camera works, Flash works pretty good, Seems slightly snappier but most of it is the same as the old..... Cool Stuff...

<<< I am pretty sure they didn't expect people to be using the xda version of 10.1 on their EVO... Prolly a good thing that the forum junkies get a hold of it first to iron out the issues.... Just a thought.

Er, what? lol

I was commenting regarding Cubfan's concerns that this isn't like installing a minor software that changing certain things in a given Android build.

It's a new version of Android so any tweaks performed previously will have no effect.

Anyone care to upload the file to a third party so those of us who didnt get to get the file direct from HTC can have a chance?

Wait I'm sorry its gone, I guess it deleted itself after the install. If its ok with the moss I can find the site that I downloaded the update from.

You can download right to your phone, use file manager from Android market to rename it to update.zip. and move it from SD/download to just SD. Here's the link androidpolice.com/2010/07/30/breaking-htc-releases-android-2-2-froyo-ota-for-evo4g-download/

apparently, not all apps can be moved to SD card. most of mine are unmovable for some odd reason :(

on the other hand, the phone is running extremely fast after the update and it seems like its no longer low on memory :)

The steps in post #416 varied a little from what happened and could've been a little more clear as to what was happening - i.e. the interval between steps 6 and 7 was longer than expected and the error you get that it can't load gave me a scare - but otherwise it looks OK. It may be the placebo effect, but some apps feel noticeably faster launching, pinching for Expose view (can't remember what the term is) is faster, Flash works on the Adobe site; so far, so good. One odd thing is that when I go to the Market, it only sees Maps as installed. We'll see how it works in live fire testing this weekend. I thought the Gallery was supposed to be revamped; looks the same to me.

Edit: The problem I've had with SwiftKey Beta not wanting to work in Handcent w/o rotating to landscape and back has gone. It used to be very unresponsive and slow to start recognizing inputs, but now it flies.
