Evo 4G update to Froyo OFFICIAL August 3rd (OLD)

you can only move some as per my prior post. Maybe its on another thread. i cant keep track there is soo damn many

I think it depends on the application... Out of 15 Apps I have downloaded from the market it only allows me to move 3 to the SD card... The rest the "Move to SD card" button is grayed out.

Not exactly sure what the rhyme or reason is but that seems to be the case.. At least with what I have on my phone....

the developer of the app has to enable it to be moved to sd card. some developers have already others will soon hopefully :p
sorry if this has been discussed already :D

is everyone going back now and moving their apps to SD instead of device?

If so, is the intent to speed up the mem usage on the device?
If so, would side affects be slowness of the apps on the card? Cuz I noticed the card isnt the fastest when loading most the time so curious on this

Moving an application from the onboard flash to sd card flash will make absolutely no difference in memory (memory=RAM) usage. It is likely to make little difference in speed, since most recently used apps are cached in memory (RAM) anyway. Might be a tad bit slower on first load, but only if you have a much slower SD card than built-in flash storage.

It is only a way to enable installing more apps when your onboard flash storage doesn't have enough space anymore.

OTA_Supersonic_3.26.651.3-1.47.651.1_releaseu2cqjc2e98n4o6xn.zip

This is the file some one else uploaded yesterday after HTC pulled it... It's the file I am using/running.... Try it...

So all I have to do is DL this plug my phone up to my comp drag that file into my SD card. Run bootloader and choose Flash recovery?

Also, sorry if it's been asked before, but do you loose all your apps? I have some games and my Swype Beta I want to hold on to. Thanks

download and then rename update then drag to your device once plugged up to the computer.

I have the Swype beta... It won't work at first.. What you have to do is go to managed applications and remove Swype but DO NOT remove the Swype installer... Once you remove the Swype application just run the installer and it will ask you for your username and password and you install it again and like you did before enable it again and it works fine.

You shouldn't "LOOSE" any applications... So far since I installed my EVO is exactly as it was before.... Just says I have 2.2 and a few minor upgrades.. Most of what your getting you can't see... It looks and for the most part acts the same... You get full flash, a better camera (slightly) plus a quicker/faster UI experience...

so is it still gonna be available for manual upload tomorrow? or have they delayed that too?

Who knows.... I am semi impressed Sprint actually got Froyo out this early.... I thought (and was told) at the earliest late August Early September.... Depends on if there are any problems.. I think the file most of us are using was intended for a "Test Group" to run over the weekend to make sure there were no bugs and instead it got released to the masses.....

They should have a damn good test group now.... :)

Not sure if this will help anyone else out but I had a hard time getting this to kick off.
I'll explain my symptoms first I guess.

When in recovery mode, I had to hit volume up+volume down+power to bring up the menu. I would select sdcard:update.zip and it would bomb out at verifying update package. It wouldn't give an error, it would just reboot. Sometimes it would reboot back into the recovery screen (red triangle) or it would just do a normal boot.

Simple fix. Powered it down, yanked the battery and let it sit for 30 seconds. Put it back in, did the previously mentioned steps and now it's rebooting after unpacking everything.

Strange but I can't be the only one with this issue.

EVO_girl's step by step instructions, worked perfectly. I have no issues with my Froyo, and all the bells and whistles seems to be in order.

Here are more complete instructions for those who need to have a picture drawn for them, like myself. :)

1. Download the file from the link given. Once downloaded, use a file mover to copy file to SD card and rename to update.zip
(I used Astro to long hold on the .zip file and select "MOVE", then it puts the file in "cut" mode, and will wait for you to find the SDCARD folder and then tap inside the folder and select "PASTE". Some have advised that you rename the file as well, to update.zip - be sure you don't name it update.zip.zip)
2. Shutdown Phone - hold the power button, select SHUT DOWN
3. Hold Down Power and Volume Down button
4. Wait for screen to to load up and it to do it's searching for file thing.
- at this point a screen will come up with three little Androids at the bottom and 4 options.
5. You need to use the volume button to rock down to RECOVERY. For those of you who don't read, like me.
6. Once you get to picture of phone with red exclamation mark hold Volume Up and then press Power.
7. At this point, I had a black screen with 4 options. I believe the actual text said "recover from update.zip"
8. Currently I am at this stage and the screen is black with bright yellow text starting with "--Install from sdcard...." then
Finding...
Opening...
Verifying...
Installing...
Verifying current...
Removing unneeded files...
Patching....
Unpacking new files...
Symlinks and permissions...
(above takes 3-4 minutes)

Reboot via menu to complete installation.
After I did this, I got this message:

Writing zip image...
(approx 2 minutes)

Now I have a screen with two green arrows in a circle and a downward arrow above an image of the device which has shown up and gone black several times.
(approx 5 minutes)

HTC EVO 4G reboot screen - several times
(approx 1-2 minutes)

Phone is rebooting with Sprint sound/logo 4g - (phone is plugged into power and is a bit warm, it's hanging on this screen for longer than usual, but I'm typing this, so I'm distracting myself from freaking out. :)

Congratulations! Your phone has been updated successfully to version 3.26.651.3 (with my live wallpaper and time, date, carrier in the background until you click "OK") Once you click "OK" it will go to an HTC screen with a percentage in the center and once that finishes you get a little keyboard tutorial. I skipped it and now I have another "loading" screen. Slowly, all of my widgets and icons are loading on the home screen. I think I'm done!

I hope this helps some of you who are timid about updating - I know I am very intimidated by messing with my phone's system. I don't flash ROM's because I prefer to stick with my carrier's updates because of past issues with Palm, Windows Mobile and Blackberry. Android just seems to be easier in every single aspect, including this one, which is why I went ahead and gave it a try.
EVO_Girl: Your comprehensive guide worked splendidly. Thank you!

Guys the website won't load. Says I do not have access. Can someone give me the file? Or point me in another direction to get it?
