Try XDA Developers.... Most places that had it are dead now.. Even secondary sites... You may be able to OTA it tomorrow if some of the Sprint chatter is accurate

Why do you all risk loading 2.2 when HTC says not to do this?
Why can't you just wait for the official release?

Because we can.... :p

A lot of these signatures not validated errors and file not found are due to renaming the file to autoupdate.zip instead of just autoupdate. The .zip is the extension file, if you type autoupdate.zip you endup with autoupdate.zip.zip even though you cant see it unless you have under folder options to not hide known file extensions.

does anyone know if this will work on a mac or the instructions of putting froyo on mac. thanks

Um, if you can transfer a file from a computer to the Evo, then it doesn't matter what operating system it is. Should be super easy with Linux, MacOS, or MS-Windows.... download file, rename file, copy file to phone root directory, unmount phone, reboot phone, trigger bootloader, load update, wait, reboot, wait, done.

I am not sure how it is possible for it to be much easier. There ARE no special OS instructions.

Same instructions, just put in on your sd card rename it update.zip, boot into h-boot (volume down & power), boot loader, recovery, updater, and wait.

I have 2.2 its nice.

ive done everything but i keep getting the validation error that most were getting in the beginning. when people talk about putting it in the root folder what are they meaning by that. sorry if thats a dumb question but i am totally new to the android experience.

The top level folder on the SD card. When you hook up the phone and select 'disk drive' it should be the folder that opens in the window.

This is my first android phone to.

Just means, put it on the sd card but not in any folders, oh and don't unzip.

got that. still is not uploading and giving me the error. been trying to figure out what i have been doing wrong all day. they say that you have to have the 1.47 update is that true. also is my mac automatically unzips it does it supposed to stay zipped

This has been comical. I have music turning on at random, extreme lag, items that are not running previously getting force close messages... I should have waited till tomorrow. ;)

It must remain zipped when you place it on the root directory of the SD card. You might have a bad file. Check the md5sum, it should be f81bf01a24c7a6fc36dce561b9391360 (if my copy is good, which I don't know).

HOWTO: Install md5sum & sha1sum on Mac OS X

(looks like on MacOS it is "md5 -r FILENAME"

You are the only one that has reported random music, extreme lag, and such. It is likely stuff you had loaded before. Unfortunately for you, you might have to do a hard wipe/reset.

I should have waited till tomorrow. ;)

What difference would that make? For one, the official update is slated for Tuesday, not Monday (tomorrow). And if it is the same or substantially the same, you are likely to have had the same issues with the stuff you had previously loaded.

hutchinj, what are you talking about??? What "updated update"?

First, the link you posted at the top is broken. Then your last link is the exact same OTA file as originally posted by HTC (I checked the MD5sum.... even the filename is the same).

hutchinj is posting release notes from the previous 6/28 update. It has nothing to do with the Froyo update and should be moved...

I don't install custom anything on my phone. Thanks for the input, but it isn't likely having issues because of anything previously done to my phone. No, the responsibility for this lies at my feet for not listening to HTC when they said to wait. Which brings me to...

Today, the first, is the rumored date for the updated update. The third is the date for the OTA update. This is why I should have waited. Anyway, I might as well do a full reset, unless anyone has any better ideas?

ready to update, but a bit weary. from reading various post i feel that updating evo has become a contentious issue.

three questions that i believe are relevant for many evo users:

1. as of right now which link/file should be used to acquire the update file that goes to the sd card root?
2. are the files being used the same one that sprint will make available on 08/03/2010?
3. if there is another file on 08/03/2010 will we be able to update to that without injuring the phone?

thanks

This is why merging threads makes no sense to me. What you have is 70 pages of information across so many broad topics, that it makes it impossible to find any information relevant to what a person is looking for. So you get half of the pages asking the same thing... and the other half answering the same thing. No one is going to read through 70 pages.... (well no one with other things to do besides reading through 70 pages). I would much rather see a new thread started than to have a Sticky cluttered up with the same questions over and over....
