evo crashes everytime gps based app used

More than likely you will need to go to Sprint and get it replaced. You could try doing a hard reset first, but they will probably do this at the Sprint store anyway, even if you have already done it yourself. I just had to exchange one of the two Evos I have on my account because of this issue.

You dont need to call Sprint, it's really easy. From your home screen, press menu > privacy > factory data reset. This wipes your phone so make sure you back up any data you need.

I had the same issue for 5 days, every time i oppened a gps app my phone would reboot
called up htc, they had no solution, called sprint the tried everything and couldnt fix the problem. They even had me do a hard reset & the problem still occured.

i did some research online & its a growing problem among evo users, here is the fix.
Do not factory reset your phone, the problem will comeback, resetting your sd card wont help either.
This is the fix i fould online & it works, after 6 days still no rebooting.

I found that only clearing out the GPS unit using hash code ##GPSCLRX# and then inputing your msl code which you get from Sprint. Here are the steps if anyone is intersted, best part is no hard or factory resets needed. Also no app troubleshooting. The only part that sucks is you have to call and speak to Sprint and they don't like giving out the unlock code. I told them exactly what I was going to do and they gave it to me. I did the whole Sprint repair as well as new phone senerio and I still had the issue return. Factory and Hard resets did nothing either. It always came back within 24 hours.

1) Call Sprint and retrieve msl code.

2) Open dialer and press ##GPSCLRX#

3) When prompted input the code from step 1

4) Phone will reboot in 20 seconds

Hope it helps, your welcome!

How to get MSL bypassing Sprint shown here: [How To] Retrieve MSL CDMA Workshop Method - xda-developers

A hard reset is only a temporary fix. I've now had this problem on two phones and just ordered my third. I will try and get the MSL from Sprint and give this a try because I am completely tired of hard resetting my phone. Thanks!

Woohoo!! Worked like a charm! This has been my only issue with my EVO but I use navigation alot so it was a big issue. Thank you so much for the fix.

As far as getting my MSL code, I just called Sprint CS and told them about my existing problem (I had already called them about this new issue with this particular phone), and he asked what I was trying to do, and I explained to him about the ##GPSCLRX#, and he gave me my MSL. No problems.

You can get the MSL without calling sprint easier than that tutorial. Just run aLogcat while you try to access #*#*DATA*#*# and then pause it. its in green text if you scroll up a bit.

Hmmm....I‘ve had a problem (and a bit of research indicates that others have it as well) in which GPS works, but resets the phone if you get a call. Sprint easily provided the MSL code, and followed the above steps. I‘ll be very curious to see if this handles my problem.

Thanks!

I had this problem, and did a hard reset to fix it.

Now, about two weeks later, the problem came back. Did the clear hash/MSL code procedure, and all is fine!

Guys - I tried the same MSL code method (got the no. from Sprint after two try's)

Yes, the phone does not reboot but I saw data lost signal/GPS off sign on both Sprint Nav/Google Nav when I got/placed a call. Google NAV wouldn't even give me voice prompts, Sprint NAV did.

Anyone has experienced this.

Thanks

Were you using the speaker phone when you made your call? There's a known problem with the speaker and GPS antenna.

thanks for the great advice I did exactly what you said, sprint cheerfully gave me the msl number, I entered it as described above and presto the problem was fixed and still is

Hello,

I've had this same problem also since the beginning. I hope it will fix it for me also as f1nzup indicated on 7/25.
I called Sprint also, indicated what I'd do as well as having researched this (which I have been doing). The tech help gave me the msl code (which is just a password unique to a user which I asked about). It was as easy as the steps above indicate.

I have to work with it now to ensure this solved the problem. I'll post back with an update later for other's info.
Thanks.

Sweet! so far so good. My EVO started rebooting last week and everyday it got worse. Saturday night it reset itself 4 times in about a half hour. I called Sprint told them what I was doing and got the code, no questions asked. no reboots since saturday night. I have been checking my phone by going into all of my gps apps to see if i can get it to reboot and it hasn't. Thanks for the help.

what about turning the GPS and My Location off and back on? Ive never had this issue but one person came in with something similar and just ran setup, then unchecked both boxes under use Google Location, then ran setup and checked the boxes again, and everything was working

I have been having the same problem. I just did the MSI code thing, and hopefully this will fix the problem. Will keep an eye on it for a few days and see what happens.

Thanks.

EDIT: Been about 35 minutes, and I was using a GPS based app, and my phone just rebooted. Damn!
