Evo + Infiniti G37 = Sadness

Hello, I am new to this thread but have a marked interest in the topic. I currently have a new (within the 30 day satisfaction guarantee period) Droid Incredible, which is generally love.

Make sure you are not on the 14 day return policy that Verizon just implemented. I think on January 16th (ish) they went from 30 to 14 days to return.

fortunately I bought the phone from best buy not verizon so I have a full 30 days and no restocking fee or activation fee penalty!

That said, I've been reading up on the as of yet not released HTC thunderbolt and it looks like a really solid option. I have to think about my options in this regard. One problem with it is that the BT is untested, unlike the Evo.

I just keep reading up on how the LTE network is going to surpass WIMAX and it makes me nervous...

Will be interesting to see how that clashes with Verizon's new 14 day policy. Perhaps people will be able to return phones but still be locked into a plan penalty from 15 to 30 days.

Well, that is a different topic from this thread, but there is no reason to be nervous. Just wait and see what happens.

yeah

out of curiosity, what was it that resolved the bluetooth problem? was it an OTA android update? a new ROM? a bugfix package?

When I went to the sprint store yesterday with my incredible and compared it to an Evo, the software versions for the evo were listed as more recent versions than my Dinc.

To me, this bears relevance to future HTC products, including the thunderbolt.

The problem was with transferring contacts. That was overcome with an update to a separate program: http://forum.androidcentral.com/htc-evo-4g/17484-evo-infiniti-g37-sadness-5.html#post302544

The Evo was the first non-Google-developer phone to get 2.2, for example. This is a function of both HTC *and* Sprint. Unfortunately, the carriers are also responsible for coordinating and making updates to Android Linux happen on the devices. So an HTC phone on one carrier (like Sprint) might still have better upgrade speed than on a different carrier (like Sprint). Sprint has made several statements indicating their desire to be in the lead when it comes to keeping the Evo updated. In that light, it is rumored that, again, the Evo on Sprint will be one of the first to get updated to 2.3. Should be interesting to see if that also holds with the HTC Shift, and the future [rumored] Evo 2.

i did, but not closely enough to catch that the update only solved the contacts issue while the pairing seemed to solve itself. apologies. i've been working a lot this week, including a system implementation today so i haven't had the time to absorb every word.

interesting and relevant. i have more to think about then.

i am concerned about the sprint users in my area that have said the 4g service is spotty at best and most of them just turn it off so it doesn't suck battery life looking for a connection.

thanks again

I've had issues with my 2011 Infiniti M37 and my bluetooth with my EVO. For the first month I bought the car (Oct. - Nov. 2010), I tried multiple times to pair the EVO with my M37. I even got a new EVO thinking maybe something was wrong with my particular EVO. However, no dice. I could always paid my phone to stream audio (pandora works flawlessly), but was never able to to pair it to use with my car's phone systems.

No more.

Using this thread as inspiration, I again tried to do it today... and IT WORKED!!! I can now use my EVO to make and receive calls. It's such a relief... plus it works better in terms of both outgoing and incoming call quality than my iphone (which I have used up to this point as my car phone). Anyways, thanks guys for inspiring me to give it another shot.

So although, as I stated in the above post, my bluetooth now works with my car. However, there is still a problem.

Whenever I get into my car and turn on blue tooth, both my car and EVO stated that they are connected. However, if I try to play audio through my car (pandora), no audio comes out of either my phone or my car, and if I try to make a call through my car, the phone doesn't work.

So then what I do is turn off blue tooth and then turn it back on again. After I do this, both audio and phone through my car work perfectly.

So the problem is that I have to cycle through my blue tooth twice every time I get into my car for it to properly connect. Anyone else have this, or a similar, problem?

I have never tried to play music from the phone to the car. I wasn't even aware that feature works or is supposed to work with the G37. But I also never have to turn off/on bluetooth to make the phone work with the car as a phone. Perhaps it is trying to push music that is your problem? I assume if you don't try to play music, everything works fine.

I will say that when I get in the car, it connects immediately, then several seconds later it "disconnects", and then a few seconds more it connects yet again and stays connected. Does this almost every time.

If it only did that, it would be fine... but it doesn't work at all. It worked fine before just on audio, might work fine just on phone if I try it. However, that really wouldn't be an ideal solution as I'd like to do both. I use pandora in my car more than my radio.

I have EVO and 2007 infiniti M35 and I know a bunch of guys in infiniti forum who would LOVE a way to play music through Bluetooth.
Bluetooth phone works fine. Just be sure it is set for CDMA in the car. All research we have done with respect to audio like Pandora etc is that the Bluetooth stacks weren't originally set up for this and I think I saw that 2010 or maybe it was 2011 models where you'll be able to have phone AND audio. Right now I have to use a cord from the AUX jacks in the back seat to listen to Audible Books...but the phone works fine.

This is really encouraging, but I can't see where you found a resolution to your original connectivity problem.

I just bought an Infiniti G37 and NO ONE can tell me how to connect my EVO to hands-free?not the dealer, not Sprint, not HTC...and Infiniti says it won't work, period.

Is there anything you can do to help?

Thanks in advance.

Sorry folks, I'm a real newbie. Found a few free options in the Android market for BFT, and downloaded one of them?but I have no idea what to do with it.

Can someone please advise? Thanks.

What year? Mine is a 2009 and hands-free works fine with the Evo. I did have to delete the car from the phone, the phone from the car, reboot, and re-pair once more before it worked. http://forum.androidcentral.com/htc-evo-4g/17484-evo-infiniti-g37-sadness-2.html#post167823

It has worked ever since. The only strange problem is that when I first turn on the car, they see each other, then after about 10 sec, the car says the Evo has "disconnected" and then after another 10 sec, it says the Evo has "connected" again. Once it goes through that, it will stay connected the duration of the trip.

If yours is newer, perhaps something has changed, but it seems unlikely for things to get less compatible.

The only program KNOWN to work with the G37 right now is "Bluetooth File Transfer" (in the market) version 3.50 or above.

I actually don't remember the exact magic incantation that made it work, but it was something like: "On the car I choose to download phonebook, then in the app I tell it to send contacts, select all, send, choose the car, and the two actually start talking to each other (I see a transfer progress dialog on both). It didn't require I use the "1234" code on the phone like the car insists."

What REALLY sucks is that the G37 will NOT LET YOU DIAL or even VIEW the contacts in your uploaded phonebook while the car is in "Drive". You can ONLY use the few you manually enter in the "local" phonebook. And they did that ON PURPOSE in the name of safety!!! This is incredibly stupid and unsafe because it means I have to retrieve the phone and play with the contacts on the phone to make a call not in the local phonebook.

Whether they fixed that in newer G37's or not, I don't know. But it mostly ruins the whole point of uploading your phonebook in the first place.

EVO-Infiniti G37 connectivity issue resolved

The fix was incredibly simple: Once the phone and car 'pair,' you'll get a message on the phone asking if you want the device (i.e. the car's hands-free system) to access your contacts.

Though it makes intuitive sense to select 'Yes,' don't. Instead, select 'No,' and 'Always.'

For some weird reason this did the trick. What a friggin' relief.

NOTE: My car does not have a navigation system which, I've learned, is significant in these matters.

Hope this is helpful.:D

including most if not all your appliances, and half of everything else you buy.

Whirlpool, Maytag, kenmore and Crosly washer are all made in good old Clyde, OH by me! Most of Whirlpools products are made in the USA. The rest is defiantly true though.

EDIT: just wanted to share :-) and good to see you got it working.

Pairing on my 335

ok was pretty discouraged when i ran into similar issues w/ pairing my HTC EVO bluetooth to my 335. Esp when i spent $$$$$ on a nice car and the phone doesn't connect. but after reading everyone else's posts, i realize that i needed to update software on my phone. Here's what I did:

Setting -> System Updates -> HTC software update -> and ran a check on update...it took a good 10 mins to update my phone. but it now works...i also deleted pandora from my phone prior to running the update, but no luck. so it's probably a software update (only) that worked or a combination of software update and removing pandora from my phone.

hope this helps someone out there...

SOLVED

I am not sure why, though. I did the same thing as before- I deleted the car from the phone, I deleted the phone from the car, repaired it again and after the pairing, the calls would transfer from the phone audio to the car audio.

Since this last time, I had rebooted the phone (actually, I think it is the first time I had ever rebooted it since I got it). Not sure if that was the key, but it works!!!

Unfortunately, I can't get the phonebook transfered to the car, though. It was easy on the Pre. On the EVO, I choose the option on the car, it says to use the transfer option on the phone and use the passcode of "1234" when prompted". The phone "disconnects" the bluetooth from the car, and sits there and does nothing. Eventually the car will timeout with "failed" and then the phone will reconnect to the car. I tried various different options with no results. At least I can use the phone with the car now, even if I had to manually program every number in by hand :/
Wow, my first post! I'm an infiniti tech and I'd say rebooting your phone did the trick. I always reboot phones for Bluetooth and ipod concerns. When in doubt reboot.

I have figured out how to pair the HTC Evo with my 2008 Infiniti G37. You have to download Astro and Astro bluetooth from the android market.
1) go to People/Menu/Import/Export/Export to SD card
2) go to Astro, find the file pcsc_pcsc_00xxx tap and hold. a file options menu will display
3) At this point from the cars Navi, choose download phonebook, a message will apear telling you to put in a code when something pops up on your phone (we know that something never pops up)
4) from the phones "File Options" menu choose "Send"
5)another "send File" list will pop up, choose ASTRO Bluetooth
6) select your cars bluetooth device name. Mine is MY-CAR
