EVO lover who likes Apple?

I love apple Computers and the ipod nano but thats it. I will never buy an iphone, ever even if my evo starts dropping calls because of the way I hold it. lol. Apple is so expensive to purchase and to replace if something were to break. I also do not like how Steve Jobby Jobs runs things with all the limits etc. they impose with their products. They need to lower their prices and allow for their products to "PLAY NICE" with any 3rd party app/software/device.

If my Evo started to drop calls like the Iphone, it's going back to the store.

Steve Jobs answer to the antenna problem: Not that many people have the problem. But we'll give you a free case anyway...... Why give away potentially 7+ million free cases if you're that confident the issue isn't that serious and is only affecting %0.55 of iPhone buyers??
Providing bumpers for the iPhone is akin Toyota to provide an anchor "if your gas pedal gets stuck just throw the anchor out the window"

I do....

I like certain apple products.. I looooooooooooooooooooooooooove my evo however I have an itouch. I've had the shuffle, the small pink ipod (before nano came out),ipod nano, ipod classic and now itouch I love them I am not a zune girl. Call me a drone for that lol but when it comes down to my phones I do like iphones but I am now a droid girl all the way baby ;) HTC EVO FTW!!!:p

It's pretty obvious you haven't used iTunes in awhile. It's not near the resource hog it used to be and opens quite quickly. Also, UI improvements? Show me software that does what iTunes does that's better in either navigation or otherwise?

**I'm not a fanboy as I noted earlier, but that doesn't mean I won't call out b.s. when I see it**

The Zune software is much better, IMHO, than Itunes in every way. It's better looking, just as functional, and really kinda does more than itunes. And on my windows machine it opens faster than Itunes (yes I keep Itunes up to date)

In my opinion Zune is more for the music lover than Itunes.

It is a very subjective thing, and to each their own, but I have and will still contend that Apple and Steve Job's computing philosophy is inherently fascist.

This philosophy is also in direct contradiction with their marketing campaigns and outward image.

Although, I do admit being quite enamored with the visual appeal of their products and the OS X system in particular. But every time I walk into that walled garden I feel the trap close in around me. Its oh so beautiful inside but you're not allowed out.

I enjoyed the quote in a earlier post - "The iPad solved a problem no one had."

iPod, iPhone, iPad, MacBook.... That's 4 devices. My EVO takes care of 3 of them.

As for the iPad? Unless I get one for free I'm never touching one. Waste of money. It solves a problem no one had. Either use a laptop or a phone, either will have more functionality either be faster or more portable.

You shouldn't look at the world through only your own eyes. It might not solve a problem for YOU, but for many it fills a void. If it didn't they wouldn't be selling so well. Computers are somewhat intimidating for old people. Go tell this lady that she should be squinting at a phone instead or trying to figure out a laptop:

+1 I was going to mention that! MAC OS is actually less secure than Windows from a technical point of view. The hackers themselves say it. Windows has a much larger base so is concentrated on more therefore you hear a lot more of the problems on it.

This is SUCH mis-information. Common sense should tell people this isn't true. Why? Think about it.

  • You have a CEO that some consider arrogant
  • Apple has right on their website that they don't get viruses
  • OSX has been on the market long enough for viruses to be written for it and spread far and wide

Yet that hasn't happened. You don't think some hacker out there would like to crow about how they wrote the first viruses on OSX? You don't think some hackers who don't like Steve Jobs or don't like Apple itself for some reason wouldn't want to target it? You don't think that all the crowing that Apple does about not getting viruses (again, right on their website) would make them a tempting target as well? It's like waving a red cloth in front of a bull.

If it were possible, it would have happened by now. The fact that it hasn't, (despite Apple practically begging people to come after them) says everything.

I get flak here because I like Apple products. And I get flak on Apple forums for liking Android, so I guess there is no pleasing people. But there is no reason that there can't be room for both in the world.

People should just use what makes them happy.

It was targeted because it was the easiest. Why would a hacker waste their time with OSX when the market share is so low? Apple and Microsoft aren't stupid, they do their best to keep their computer's safe.

I bought the EVO on launch day. And then I bought the iPhone 4 on launch day and sold the EVO. There are times when I miss the EVO (I will definitely miss the active "hacker" community... the stuff they cook up is amazing) but I'm still happy with my iPhone.

Back on topic... I like Apple products (but make no mistake, I'm not an Apple slappy/apologist). I've owned a PowerBook G4 and MacBook Pro laptop. The iPhone 4 is my first iPhone. I really enjoyed my experience with Android, and I will continue to closely watch the Android scene. Someday I might be back.

And this forum is so much more pleasant than some of the Apple-centric forums out there.

I would use absolutely anything before iTunes. iTunes is nothing more than a spreadsheet of your music with archaic UI plus absolutely USELESS browsing mechanisms (see also: Cover Flow).

I'd use:

Zune
Winamp
Foobar
Songbird
VLC

or just about anything else before it.

I have an EVO and an iPod Touch 2G I got a few years ago. I definitely would've gotten the iPhone, but it was too expensive back then. I considered it the best smartphone until the newer Android devices (Droid, Nexus One, etc.) started coming out. I still consider the iPhone a great device, but the newer Android devices have more capabilities.

Like others have said, it all comes down to what type of interface a person wants and if they're willing to take the time to customize their phone however they want or if they're fine with Apple's overly-simplified interface that is also effortless to use and practically guaranteed to be free from errors at the cost of some functionality.

It seems as though most people prefer the attractive customization options of Android and HTC Sense. Even die-hard Apple fans that I know in real life have been telling me they wished they had chosen an Android device over the iPhone 4, and some are actually returning their iPhones. It's understandable that some people prefer the simple, straightforward interface of iOS, but I think most will prefer Android (especially with Sense); even the not-so-tech savvy teenagers that are all about being "cool."

They aren't a target because they only have 3% market share. That's really a waste of time for the hacker community. So because Apple says something on their website it has to be true, right? Notice that you said that their website says they don't get virus, not that's it's impossible for it to happen.

I'm sure they get viruses (there's a reason security firms write software for OSX) but because of the market share nobody hears about it. How many users would it really affect if a virus hit OSX at the same rate they hit Windows. Keep in mind that a virus doesn't hit 100% of the user base so a small percentage of 3% of the total user base is an even smaller number.

Didn't Apple build BASIC antivirus into OSX? Wouldn't that tell you that it can happen? That's like Apple saying the Iphone 4 doesn't have an antenna problem but we're gonna give you a bumper in case you have antenna problems. Fixing a problem is an admission that there was a problem in the first place, even if they don't come right out and say it.

HTC didn't deny that the EVO had some issues with the SD card when it came out, they released a software update and fixed it. Then said they had some release problems and got them fixed.

The reason the iPhone OS is so stable and efficient with its apps is because of the strict restrictions Apple puts on it's "3rd party app/software/device". It's a trade-off between fewer options and a higher standard for apps/coding.

It was targeted because it was the easiest. Why would a hacker waste their time with OSX when the market share is so low? Apple and Microsoft aren't stupid, they do their best to keep their computer's safe.

From the article you cited: "He did confirm, however, that he had exploited a bug in Safari 3.1, the current version of Apple's browser."

OS security and web browser security are two totally different things.

Unix, which is what OSX is built on top of, is a much more secure OS than Windows. It is not a coincidence that the Unix-based Linux also has no viruses in the wild.

And OSX's market share is not too small to get hacker attention - they target it with trojans, but still can't crank out a successful virus. Hmm..

Not sure where you're getting your numbers, but Apple's market share is more than triple your estimate. Almost 10% of U.S. computers doesn't seem like too small a target to me. Also see my above post about the market share not being too small to be targeted with trojan horses..

There have been viruses for OS X. They're just not as numerous as Windows ones yet. I distinctly remember one being passed along torrented versions of iWork09. It was a trojan that would do all sorts of fun identity theft stuff.

Also, need I mention again the fact that OS X is the first system to get cracked (literally within minutes) at DEFCON every year?

I agree about why iOS is so stable. It's the walled garden people argue about so much.

Browser security is different than OS security but when the browser is made by the same company as the OS and gives you access to the OS it's still a fail.

Nobody cuts Microsoft any slack when a vulnerability is found in IE. And why should they? It's still their fault that your computer is at risk.
