EVO lover who likes Apple?

I would use absolutely anything before iTunes. iTunes is nothing more than a spreadsheet of your music with archaic UI plus absolutely USELESS browsing mechanisms (see also: Cover Flow).

I'd use:

Zune
Winamp
Foobar
Songbird
VLC

or just about anything else before it.

Yes, okay.

Couldn't agree more. I hated iTunes.

I don't buy into the lack of virus on mac due to low market share. Someone would have done it just to prove it could be done, or just to spite Steve jobs. I've never used any mac or apple products, but from what I've heard about it that's just what I think.

There have been virus's. There have been so few though and they have been covered up.

Appreciate the level of maturity being displayed here. Seeing the title, and the way the thread was growing, I was sure it would be a mess ;)

Apple's mobile products fill a need IMO. Some people prefer that everything work as advertised right out of the box, with no configuration or compatibility issues. To these people, restrictive software agreements and heavy handed company policies don't mean a damn thing as long as their new shiny works like they were promised. A 32 GB iPod touch is a perfect example. Put your music on it, plug in headphones or your car stereo and you're done. Digital music to go with no issues. Privacy concerns and the clunkiness of iTunes is a fair trade for most people.

Their computers OTOH, I don't understand the fascination. Windows is easier to use, and has a much bigger software base. Linux runs better on comparable hardware, and is much more customizable. Everyone should use what they feel comfortable with, and I just never found a reason to choose a Mac.

My wife and I really like Apple products. We have iMac, iPod and both have a iPhone 3GS. However, the iPhone bill from AT&T was getting to much money to shall out ever month.

So, I went to Sprint and love the HTC EVO phone. Do I miss the iPhone? Sure, but you can do hell lot more with the Android!! :)

I'm just wondering what you like about itunes over the other music players/organizers available.

Hold on a second. I said to show me what software "does what iTunes does", which is more than organizing/playing your music.

For pure music playback/organization, I use Foobar for my .flac library for almost 5 years now.

Zune player is an example of it. I don't have a flac collection though, don't have a player that supports it.

Zune does more than itunes. I used both simultaneously for 6 months. Stuck with Zune, uninstalled Itunes. This was a month or two ago. But I don"t use FLAC so I don't need support for that.

Yeah, I also love paying $500 for what a laptop does better.

Why do you feel the need to rain on other people's choices? If it works for them, why is it such a problem for you?

I refer you back to post #47 in this thread which you never did answer.

You shouldn't look at the world through only your own eyes. It might not solve a problem for YOU, but for many it fills a void. If it didn't they wouldn't be selling so well. Computers are somewhat intimidating for old people. Go tell this lady that she should be squinting at a phone instead or trying to figure out a laptop:

Because it's amusing to me when people buy stuff only because it's made by Apple.

Apologies that I missed your silly post halfway through the thread. Here's a simple response:

Yes, she should try to figure out a laptop. Not only would the screen be bigger, but most old folks have experience with Windows more than they do iOS. In addition, there are custom linux systems designed for usability which make even iOS look complicated. iOS doesn't even have accessibility options, which most older people need. My grandparents, for instance, love that Windows has the ability to scale up the UI/text across the board, making it much easier to see and read even on new high resolution monitors.

"The most common blunder people make when the topic of a computer virus arises is to refer to a worm or Trojan horse as a virus."

The Difference Between a Virus, Worm and Trojan Horse - Webopedia.com

The most common blunder is when people don't read thoroughly. It's a virus/trojan mix. It will infect other files like a virus, and it creates a backdoor like a trojan. No one calls these things "blended threats". You may be shocked to notice that I mentioned both in my post for a reason.

I've only tried it when first released and it wasn't all that impressive from what I remember. Going to revisit now though.

Such as...?

Zune 1.0 was pretty much a reskin of Windows Media Player 10. It wasn't great.

Zune 3.0+ is a whole new UI and smokes iTunes. In fact, many of the features you see in iTunes were ripped off of Zune, like "Genius". Zune's biggest feature though, is Zune Pass, which is something Apple/iTunes has yet to do.

My wife and I own the Evo and love it. We also have an HP laptop and recently I bought a Macbook. I must say I could not be happier with the Macbook. My wife is a teacher, I work at a school so we got used to the OS. I have had the Macbook now for a couple months and I love it more each day. It just works so easily. I don't have to do really anything and it remains fast as hell. I had to us the HP with and I wanted to shoot myself. Everything was just so slow compared to the Mac. I get flack because I tell people I will probably never own another PC again and will stick with Mac.

As for the Ipad I had that for three weeks and did not like it, it dropped the Wifi signal every ten minutes. I took it back and returned it for the Macbook. I have the EVo and love being on Sprint. If Sprint had the Iphone I would probably try it. Either way both are good products.

I believe you meant to compare Windows to Mac OS X right? Also there are accessibility options. They are found in the System Preferences under Universal Access. Apple - Accessibility. iOS is for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad.

It's all personal preference. Just like some people might love to use Zune Pass (Subscription based music) while others don't want to have another monthly fee or lose mostly everything you download if you stop. But yes I see your point in that Zune has either pay-per-song or subscription. Also who cares who ripped off who. In the end new standards are made which is all great for the user. It's about what works for your needs.

So say, 3% market share. Out of that 3% they get a 5% infection rate. Out of those infected people, they believe Apple that they do not need any antivirus programs so they never know they got infected to start with. A few of them figure it out and report it to Apple. So Apple get says 100 reports and claims user error. The virus writer wants news reports about his or her virus. They can get that by infecting PC's at a 5% success rate. (which is actually rather high for a any virus)

News flash, Apple does do security updates. Apple added anti-virus software to OSX. If there were no viruses, then why add the protection? McAfee, Norton, and several others make protection software for Apple computers as well.

Apple does have an issue with Trojans. The largest security hole in any computer, OSX, Windows, Linux, BeOS, etc, is the person at the keyboard. No, you do not need to install that new Codex to play that adult video. That screen saver or game is not really free.

Think of it my sick and twisted way. If we had one grenade and wanted to kill as many people as possible, do we throw it at a crowd of 1000 people, or at a group of 10 people? That is how the virus writer thinks. I know, I USED to be one. Just annoyance things that went away on their own. I was never malicious.
