EVO update 3.70.651.1 pushing out now!

Will not update

I downloaded the update from the provided link, but after it says verifying package it fails. Why does my Evo do that? Is it because I have the original model and the current update only works on the new versions?

How come when I try to install the manual it fails after verifying contents? Am I doing something wrong? Is it because I have the original Evo and not the new one? I overheard some guys talking in the sprint store about the update and they said it will be fully downloadable for all Friday. Should I just wait?

Based on the comments by the few people who have managed to install it, I don't see anything to make me bother. I suppose if you really want Swype, and couldn't get in on the beta it might be worth it, but I don't see anything other than a few apps otherwise.

I am NOT EVEN TOUCHING this update. So far I've read the following.

1. It will break root
2. It installs even MORE bloat
3. My PRL is 60672...this give you 60671 (wtf?)
4. I don't care about swype.
5. - Blockbuster (including WM DRM 10)
- Kindle eReader
- Preloaded try/buy video game: NOVA from Gameloft
- Sprint Zone update
- Latest Telenav
- Latest VVM App
- Latest Sprint TV app

WHO CARES???

I'm waiting for Gingerbread period.

Why take the risk of breaking root just for this Bloat??

Anyone want to chime in and give me a good argument for intalling this (obviously not OTA)

Please tell me why I should run the RUU 3.70.651.1 instead of 3.29.651.5??
ESPECIALLY since this is NOT Gingerbread??

Who's with me? And I'm speaking specifically to those who are rooted.

lol @ manual updates. I like beta testing games - not phone software. I rely on my phone far too much to risk it going kaput.

/em patiently awaits the OTA for his .002 EVO

I'm think yes. I had the problem for the first time tonight. I'm set up so I can see the weather in 3 cities. One get's no temp or weather icon, the other two cities are functioning normally. The computer that serves the weather info is probably overloaded serving software updates.

Some people appreciate a carrier providing additional features and functionality at no extra charge. Now instead of having to steal or use betas of Swype, those who want it are getting it with support legitimately.

If there is something that approaches iFone fanboys level of sheer annoying noise, it's Android extremists who shriek "BLOAT!!!!!!" like their pets are being raped by the carriers, especially when Sprint are princes compared to Verizon slapping Bing on as the default on some handsets.

If you don't want anything other than barebones Android, then chill the hell out and wait for the chefs to cook up a custom ROM that spares you all those oppressive features. What's especially ridiculous about your tantrum is that you're rooted, yet you expect HTC and Sprint to not do anything to negatively impact the hacking you've chosen to do on your phone. Sheesh. That's like demanding an open heart surgeon not mess up your photorealistic tattoo of Justin Bieber on your chest.

Just head over to XDA and download the rooted version. Its already up. Just uninstall the bloat you don't want via root explorer or titanium.

Once Swype is pre loaded installing Swype beta only messes up the system

The install went through as smooth as it could possibly go for me (hardware 0003). For all the people complaining about the inclusion of Swype you can still use the stock or any other downloaded keyboard and for the folks that had the Beta version already and are complaining about downgrading to this older version... You are the exception. Besides you can probably just uninstall the beta version, install this system update and then reinstall the beta.

I didn't have any version of Swype installed and I had no intention on downloading a pirated version to get it either so for me this is a God send. Before this I had to settle for the Slideit Keyboard which was not terrible but Swype is much much better. I don't really care about anything else in the update so far.

Oh and I didn't see any new 4G widgets either.

Sprint is losing us

Brilliant, Sprint. Now the 4G network asks to scan and connect every time it loses signal, rather than reconnecting itself???

4G's coverage is so bad, my phone is now NEVER on 4G in Austin, because it won't automatically connect!

At least you could have left the option to auto-connect on. Great. There goes 4G. What's the point of super-fast speeds if you have to press, scan, connect every time you want to use it?

Sprint is losing us

I personally don't understand why people need 4G very often. In most cities 3G on Sprint can hit up to 2-3mb. How much more does a phone need? 4G is a luxury and is used basically like Wi-Fi is. So with the new 4G scan feature why would Sprint be losing anyone? It's a smart feature... At least my personal opinion thinks so.

Swype Beta to Swype by Evo update

i updated over an hour ago (ota) and i had the swype beta installed before the update. now all i get are force closes. i've uninstalled the beta, reinstalled but nothing but FC. can anyone help?

I had the Swype beta installed too. After updating I had the same issue. I uninstalled the beta Swype and Swype installer and rebooted the phone. After the reboot Swype appeared and worked with no problem.

Cheers

Already answered a dozen times. The download apparently only works with the 5% or so of Evo's that are hardware version 4.
