EVO update 3.70.651.1 pushing out now!

"please reference the CE forums"

Phil, General AC Forum goers...That would be me, I've personally been there all day from my sprint tech office. We are monitoring all this closely, and I'm double checking here and the XDA forums since I'm a rooted user too.

Not sure why it was coded up as 0002 and 0003 hardware only, waiting for clarification on if we are going to close the gap and it will be pushed to all hardware versions (as in no more different software variations like 3.29 versus 3.30 for the old camera chip/new camera chip). 0002/0003 old camera, rare 0003's and 0004's may get a same labeled version but at a different interval than the others so that the camera chip info is not screwed up. Last part is speculation by me, but as of 10:00 tonight I did not have that clarification yet from my constituants on the CE forums.

Those are internal forums not accessible by outsiders of sprint so I apologize that I cannot link to that information, as not only would it be company confidential but it is behind company intranet walls anyway.

Rooted version of this is already up at XDA, reasons for flashing? New kernal, new radios, if you are rooted like me, pull the bloatware out just as you did before.

I always do, but hey, YMMV and you are free to pass the kernal and radios up.

No update here yet. Not rooted version 0002.

Btw, its not by location, my friends EVO version 0004 got the update in my same location yesterday.

I don't think there is any method to theory madness.... All hardware versions have been updated, both new phones and old, people that have recently moved to Sprint and those 12 years or more, etc.

It is a game and you either win or are left to be last.

still no update here in Indianapolis. I purchased mine from Best Buy on Nov 5 2010 and have the following.

hardware version 4
software 6.29.651.5

Could this update also be in presentation for Gingerbread? This makes me feel more confident of a Gingerbread update.

To all the people complaining about the bloated Sprint apps. With the exception of the Nova game, how do you know that the updated versions are not smaller in size/better optimized/more stable? Sprint has to try and attract customers and to differentiate themselves from the other carriers. I am glad the we are still getting updates for the EVO 4G. Personally I have never had a problem with the carrier app installed on my phone.

From a technical side, does anyone know how HTC rolls out an upgrade? By this I mean how do they determine the order for which phones get the upgrade? Do they go by internal serial number or hardware revision? I guess its a good sign that they have to stagger the updates for the EVO now. That means there are lots of EVOs out there

I don't think I want to install this update, but I do want Swype.

Edit-content removed asking for hacked version of swype.

This is against forum rules.

Hey guys im new here. I am checking for the update but it says no update available. Will it come through sooner or later? I tried to do it manually but didnt work...but im not that smart when it comes to things like that. Thanks

They usually do tiered roll-outs. Patience, as much as it sucks, really is a virtue in these cases. Plenty of people here are still waiting on the OTA.

Just follow the directions from here.

Just note that some people, such as myself, have just been seeing an error when it tries to install in Step 5.

thanks, will just wait for the update to be pushed to play it safe. i think sprint should have waited to just to gingerbread. I wounder if this update is 2.2.1 whatever the differences are for it.

I'm in Connecticut and still no update as of 8:45 AM on 12/16/10. Has anyone in the Northeast got the OTA update?

Just to clarify, if you see the error then you just reboot the phone and everything is fine. It doesn't break anything; it just won't let you install the update.

Ppl that now have the update...can we get some feedback? Apparently there's a potential audio streaming issue? Anyone w/ tune-in radio that can confirm or deny an audio issue?
Also curious what changes have been made to sprint tv...additions? Prettier look? My main concern is does it still include Espn?
Definitely put me down as a person considering not updating, just hoping for some positive feedback since all we've heard mostly negative Nancies so far!
