Anyone noticing that it does not push changes, until you have a new email.

I am having to manually sync.

My Pre and Ipad change in just a few seconds my EVO only updates when I get a new message or manually sync.

Something is not right?

I noticed that when I was using exchange 2007. I switched to Exchange using Google Domain (Gmail) and it does push changes.

@bignoze

Please provide an example of what you mean. I am also using EAS and so I'd like to offer you assistance if possible but I need a clearer picture of what your saying.

I will read an email on my desktop/outlook and for 10 mins or more it will still show unread on the EVO while my Pre and Ipad will update in seconds and vise-versa.

But if a new message is sent than the changes will show up........

also in the corner it shows the time of your last sync.......that time can span 20 mins or more with no update.

I'm using the same Google exchange settings from my iPhone days. That way I'm able to use the mail application and widgets instead of the gmail application for my emails.

Set Up Your Apple Device for Google Sync : Google Sync - Google Mobile Help

I believe this will only work with an exchange account thats setup as POP or IMAP on the server.

If your company is using exchange (EAS) then this wont work because those settings cant replicate the security required for EAS (strong password, timed lock, remote wipe)

Bignoze please clarify ... when you setup the exchange account on your phone did it ask you to create an exchange mobile password?

open your mailbox on the phone and do this
Menu > More > Settings > Send and receive > Schedule should be "as item arrives"

If you have EAS this will push the messages to your phone instantly when they hit the server

yes thats how I have it.

I get the messages but not a change till a new message......new calendar events take a while to update too or will happen if a new message appears or I make a change on my EVO. I am not getting the external changes till I get a new pushed event or message.

I personally don't consider it an issue. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure it's a battery saving mechanism to prevent constant network activity. As stated earlier, it updates whenever you send or receive a new message, or hit menu and click refresh. All my Windows Mobile phones worked the same way.

I agree its a battery saving mech if thats how its supposed to work......I just want to hear I am not the only one.

Its annoying....but not a deal breaker.

i have my exchange account to "as items arrive" but it will not push. It does not update until i open the application.

The server i know is active sync because on my iphone, if a mail comes in it is instantly on my iphone, but won't get it on the evo until i open up the app.

Same thing if I delete an email or move it to a folder in outlook, it shows up almost instantly on the iphone, but again not until i open the app on Evo.

I have almost the same experience but the push on new mail, calendar and contacts seems happen in real time. However, changes on the PC do not reflect on the phone until I initiate it on the phone. But my iPhone is like this too. My read messages does not update on the iPhone until I open the email app.

I currently sync with Exchange 2010, and it works just fine, better than with my Hero in fact. Was having Calendar sync issues with my Hero.

Example: I was off today, took my son to the zoo (not my in-law's house...), and I was getting emails all day (unfortunately...).

Can't believe it's an Exchange 2010 thing.... is it working for anyone else?? And how is it set up?

What do you mean by "open the application"? Are you letting your email app run in the background, or exiting / closing it? If you exit the app, then I wouldn't expect it to do anything.

Think of apps on the Evo the same way you would on a PC. If the app is closed, it's dead. Outlook on your desktop has to be open to notify you of received mail.

I am having the same issue. It is does not auto-sync, even if I set "as items arrive". It waits until I go into the Mail app. I have only had Smartphone-based devices before and sometime mail arrived faster on my phone than my laptop. This is not acceptable to a corporate user. I am using Exchange 2003 and an Evo with the latest software updated.

I have no issues with real time sending and receiving. If i watch my PC and phone, they receive almost at the exact same time.

Regarding changes, like an email being read on a PC and being marked as read on the phone, I agree with Cory in that this was a strategic decision made by Google/HTC to save battery, but i do experience the same delay as you're talking about.

Maybe look into using an app called touchdown from the market. See if that does real time changes. I have used touchdown and personally prefer the native integration of Android's mail features over touchdown's but you may have different needs than I.
