Extended Battery Options

I dont really believe any of you guys with those lasting all these hours talk. I feel like I got scammed with the Evo and I was a HUGE fan! I get 3 hours of heavy usage (1 hour on my way to work, 1 hour at lunch and 1 hour on my way home) and in between that time my phone is on standby and its basically DEAD by the time I get home. I work from 8 in the morning til 5 in the evening and as I typed this I tried every single battery tip in every thread on this site and goodandevo.net and my battery dropped 10 percent in 30 minutes and i only sent out 5 texts  i'm using a friends HD2 WITH EVERYTHING on (bluetooth, gps, wifi, screen brightness up to all and using Skyfire to watch a vid about 10 minutes long and left the phone alone for another 20 minutes) and the battery dropped from 63% to 58%...I feel robbed :(

don't feel bad. just return it and try another. something sounds wrong with your phone. there are plenty of folks here that get more than enough from their battery. me included and i think your device may be defective. just go return it from where you got it and try another. i know it's a pain, but it will be worth it if you can get your battery to last.

I'll give it back tommorow I just feel HURT lol cuz i was HUGE fan of android before the g1 even landed lol (I mean come on I have gmail, google chrome, if I can buy google clothes I would lol) and I was TOTALLY looking forward to the supersonic. The first day I got this phone the battery life was pretty good, received it 10 am LAUNCH DAY (last person to get the phone activated before the Sprint server went down lol) and browsed the web and played around with apps until like 3 pm (for hardcore usage and getting it at 50% thats pretty damn good). My brother (palm pre user, who would loves android lol) has kept asking why am I ALWAYS charging my phone (even tho I leave it charging until its 100 percent) and I tell him the battery life sucks! I'll go back to bestbuy with it but the standby time SUCKS! But one thing I noticed about the HD2..it automatically comes with A LOT of power saving settings, android doesnt (well that PLAINLY anyway).

I had an HD2 for a week when it first came out.. Didn't care much for Windows Mobile and literally returned the phone after 5 days. From my time with the HD2 and now with the EVO the HD2 got slightly better battery life but it wasn't crazy more. in two plus weeks with my EVO I have gotten between 10 hours (on pretty heavy use) and 30 hours (on extremely light use over two days) I average about 14 - 16 hours on what I consider moderate use (40 - 50 text messages, 30 - 40 minutes of talk, 2 hours of web use, 10 - 20 pictures, upload 3 - 5 to Facebook, E-Mail 2 or 3 of them, 20 - 30 e-mails incoming and sending out about 10 per day) typically I have 20% battery remaining on average when I am done for the day.

Over my two weeks I have NOT plugged it up during the day just because I wanted to get an idea of battery life. That being said I work an 8 - 5 work day as well.... With a USB charging cable I would say MOST of us are near a computer during our work day or at the very least a power outlet. My phone goes from 15% to 100% charged in about 2 hours maybe 3.... If your really heavy on it I would highly suggest she get plugged up some time during the day.... I can't wait for them to have a car kit for the phone.. Don't care much for the universal ones out there right now but my car has a USB port and with a car kit I plan to plug it up when I am in the car and then plug it up to either my laptop or a power source if I have any designs of doing some thing after work. I am not on my phone 24.7... Like you I surf on mine while having lunch or any down time I have at work. I would easily say in an 9 hour work day (lunch included) the phone sits idle for at least 4 - 5 hours a day.

Plug it up and double your battery life or even more.....

Typically the Seido branded batteries are good ones but, like nearly all after market ones, they are going to be 'overrated' by 15%-25%. At the very best you are going to be getting a 1500mAh battery but likely a bit less.

I dont really care for windows mobile either but I must say that skyfire on that is PRETTY SWEET! The one for android has that skybar NONSENSE that hardly works on embedded media (i tried megavideo, zshare, veoh..which worked SOMETIMES but if you go to the veoh site DIRECTLY it works ) and honestly they need to go back to the drawing board. I think what was killing my battery was the fact that Buddymob was on the whole time but i turned off the share my location feature and all that, but with fring it seems to be draining less battery but it sends out annoying messages to whoever I message and it force closes or disconnects randomly.

I don't want to be constantly bringing my charger to work. Wait I have a question, i'm planning to go out of the country for a month, if i use wifi will i be charged for using the internet? I did the same on t-mobile with my blackberry but u can never be sure about these companies, might see some unwanted charges lol

If your going out of the country your not going to have to worry about any kind of internet charges.... Sprint and Verizon use CDMA and isn't used much out of the United States.. You won't even be able to "Roam" if your in Europe on a Sprint or Verizon phone.... If your on WiFi your not using Sprints data so you would not incur any data chargers...

Also another tip to save battery... If you have a good solid WiFi connection at home or work turn on WiFi.. You easily get 50% better battery life while attached to a WiFi network.. It's only when the phone is searching for a WiFi signal when there isn't one that eats up the battery.

As for carrying your charger with you... If it's at work leave one in your desk or locker. Not like it takes up much room. I have a charging cable at my desk and the one I use at home I just throw in the glove box for in the car (if needed) It's not like your toting around a case of batteries... A USB cable is going to bulk you up what a few grams? If you had a back up battery it would weight a ton more than the cable.

It's not some thing I would keep in my pocket all day and all night if I was out bar hoping or going out to dinner.... The battery is not THAT bad... If I was an extreme user I would just plug it up some time after lunch for an hour or two. Right now only once I knew I was going out one night... As soon as I got home from work I threw it on the charger for a couple of hours, got a full charge and then went out until almost 2am with no problems... Then plugged it up right when I went to bed.... Pretty simple.... I had to do the same with my iPhone 3G and even did it with my Nexus One during the 3 months I had it.

The problem is battery technology has not kept up with the phone technology. If you want to keep the phone slim and light while also having a large bright screen, 1ghz processor, Apps/Games, E-Mail, Texting, Web, Facebook, Twitter and on and on your just not going to get the battery life you want.....

Could be worse... I remember the first real cell phones... Bag phones.. Where you had a battery you had to carry around like a purse.... Even the first cell phone that didn't need the bag battery were HUGE....

I am using the Seidio 1750 mAh battery as my primary in my EVO. I used the stock battery for 5 days and the Seidio for the last 10 days... I honestly don't see any major difference between the stock and Seidio battery... it's about the same...

I read where some one told me you could go to a Sprint store and ask if they have any batteries sitting around. it was SAID any phone with a problem they take the battery out and ship just the phone (Because Lithium Ion batteries are considered Hazardous) and some times they have spare batteries sitting around and will just give you one.... I all ready had paid for a spare and have not tried this....

Well good luck and have a great trip..

I will, and this just a recommendation to everybody, it seems like it was DEFINETLY buddymob (im client) that was zapping my battery life so don't ever use it. Down 2 bars out of 10 in 3 hours of heavyyy usage (im, gaming, web browsing, a lil flash content). I also took off htc sense and just used the stock launcher and beautiful widgets.

Task Killers

I Uninstalled the task killers two days ago. For one it kept making my phone shut down/back-up. I noticed it used a lot of battery, since removing it I dont have that issue anymore. My phone comes of charger at 0730 a.m. and I did'nt charge it till around 3 p.m. I am not a expert In phones but my battery life is great with some of the changes posted in earlier forums. I use my phone for tweeting,FBing,news..etc.. Again I love my dam EVO:cool:

Right out the box with the stock battery I got great battery life... Awesome even... I was averaging 12 - 16 hours with my worst day being 10 hours and my best being 30 hours on a single charge. I purchased a Seidio 1750 mAh back up battery and after 5 days on the stock battery I switched them out. Honestly I was getting about the same battery life. I saw no improved difference between the two and used the 1750 for freaking 10 days... two days ago I switched back to the stock battery and I barely got 6 hours before it went to 20% and that was with almost zero use (I was driving 8 hours for vacation) I plugged the phone up via the USB in my car and it went up to 100% in about 3 hours... Took it off and in under 5 hours it was dead (this time with regular use) I switched back to the Seidio 1750 mAh battery and put a full charge in it.... I took it off the charger last night at 10 pm.. Left it alone sitting on the night stand and at 7 this morning I was at 40% battery life remaining.. With the phone just sitting... Plugged it back up for 2 hours and I got another full charge again.... See how long she last me today... Very weird I had no problems at first but now I am getting killed on battery life... WTF??????

I have been using ATK since I got the phone.... I can tell you that last night from 10pm until 7 this morning it said 9 hours up time and 2 hours 45 minutes awake.... Only things that show in the battery usage is Cell Stand By 40%, Phone Idle 40% Android System 7% Android.process.acore 7% Display 2% and Android OS 2%..... Something is running some where to eat up my battery.... 2 hours and 45 minutes awake during 9 hours of sleeping?? I can't figure it out...

When I swap batteries I power the device "OFF" first and then remove the battery.... I have not downloaded or uploaded any thing "NEW" from the APP market over the past couple of days... All my settings are still the same (EVEN ATK is set at the same settings) Could it be possible the phone got confused when I switched from the so called larger capacity battery (the Seidio 1750 mAh) back down to the stock 1500 mAh battery? Maybe it's not reading actual battery life? Didn't have a problem when I switched up to the so labeled larger capacity battery?????

It sounds like you're not in your normal location. What's your signal strength like? A weak signal will cause the phone to use more battery, as will (I think) a lot of roaming, as the phone keeps searching for Sprint signals.

What was your Cell Standby usage at home?

I have not found an IM client that doesn't drain the battery ... with an idle phone, it appears to trend towards 36-40 hours of run time. With an IM client the phone never sleeps, and it trends towards 9-10 hours, so about 4x the battery usage!

Got the Seidio 3000 shipping 7/6....didn't mind extended girth on my wife's Pre...hopefully, this feels as good with some more backing...

For the record, I bought a 1750 Seidio battery for the Incredible I had at one time. It did seem to last somewhat longer than the original battery.

But the numbers are still there and if that site has any credibility (why would they make this stuff up?), the results are somewhat alarming. With all the talk about counterfeit stuff made in China and elsewhere, how are consumers supposed to tell the real thing from a fake?

I had the same one for the incredible and as long as i turned off the phone and charged the full 100% it lasted the whole 12 hour shift i work.

How do you like the EVO coming from the Inc?????
