Face Unlock Might Come With A Update

Nice but how would it work. The 4 has facial unlock IR cameras, plus some other components, or so this layout states. Could they use the selfie camera, and if so, would it work at night? Only wondering. Would be nice if they were able to enable the feature.

With selfie camera just like others for instance Note 20u ,s21 other devices

It would be cool if Google can do that. Like most Android devices it would not be considered secure biometrics, but would at least unlock the phone. That was one of the main purposes of the Solo sensor on the Pixel 4 series, to have secure biometrics with that face unlock system.

We might get Face Unlock via a software update. But it will not be as secure as it was with the Pixel 4 that had dedicated hardware.

I'm not surprised by the notion they'd reintroduce face unlock, as they've had it in the past; but I'd be very surprised (and curious as to by what means) if they do so in such a manner that allows it to serve in a secure enough way to serve as a biometric authentication for banking and the like.

Edit - amused that 4 of us responded with essentially the exact same thought at the exact same time

I don't think it will be secured enough for bank apps just for unlocking , they would need the pixel 4 scanner and my guess it's too much trouble for them to do that if Samsung displays had this then I think they would of done it since they usually get their displays from Samsung.

I do not think it can be secure enough for banking apps if it's just using the selfie camera. I had a hard enough time convincing my bank and their app development team that the Pixel 4 was secure face ID and was as secure as iOS face unlock. Eventually they read all the email and documentation I sent and enabled it with their app only for the Pixel 4 series, all other Android phones had to use fingerprint for biometrics.

On my 4XL Face Unlock also improved the Auto rotate screen response.

Interesting. I don't have a problem using the fingerprint or even a pin for banking apps ect. Just as long as one can use face unlock if the sensor is giving me problems.

Would be great.

No it would not be considered secure enough for banking apps etc but let's be honest a couple of years on the pixel 4s face ID has still not been widely adopted.

Just to unlock the phone would suit me, really hope they do it.

FaceID works for me on my old iPhone with Chase, Wells Fargo, PayPal, and ApplePay/Cash. I see no reason why Android cannot use it as well.

Won't work if people are wearing masks as i I imagine some of us will be doing part of the time for some time to come.
