I AM NOT A FACEBOOK USER.
From time to time, I receive a Photo that originally was posted on Facebook and forwarded to me.
I can't save it to my Google Photos because it's in the Facebook format.
How can I save the Facebook photo into a Photo that Google Photos recognizes.
I have been told that Facebook has a utility that will convert it, but I'm not a Facebook user.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

How are you receiving these "forwarded" photos? By email, from someone who got them from Facebook?

What happens if you long-press the image?

I get options to do something with them, but none of the options allows me to save them to my Gallery. Here's a screenshot of the Long Press.

What about "Save image to"? If you select the /Download or /Pictures directory to save to, the image should automatically get added to the gallery database (unless there's a .nomedia file in that directory).

This is where my inexperience shows.
I can't find if a.Nomedia exists.
I used to know how to do that in the OLD DOS days, but I'm ignorant in ANDROID.
How can I do that in ES FILE MGR?
Thanks.

Don't use ES File Manager -- after Estrongs got bought by DO Global (a Chinese company) a while back, it got loaded up with adware (and maybe worse). I recommend using Google's own Files by Google app (which should already be on the phone).

Open Files by Google, tap Browse at the bottom, then scroll down to the Internal Storage section under Storage Devices. Then look navigate to Download or Pictures and see if the file is there.

Although it should be on by default, also go to the Files by Google app settings and make sure Show Hidden Files is turned on.

Thanks. Still no luck on finding NOMEDIA file.

About TURNING ON SHOW HIDDEN FILES, the SLIDER ON/OFF, is BRIGHT in the left position and DULL in the right position.
In my experience with ANDROID, those ON/OFF slider positions, are opposite in my Pixel 3. Normally, everywhere else, it's BRIGHT right, DULL left.
That could be my problem, although I flipped it both ways, but still can't find NOMEDIA.

Let's go back a step -- if you choose Save Image To and select a specific directory, what do you see when you look in that directory using your file manager app? Do you see the image file saved there?

No. I see the file and when I try to save it, there is some screen activity that appears to be DOWNLOADING, but an error message appears for 2 seconds that I can't read. I tried to take a screenshot with the message on the screen. When the screen shot is viewed, the error message is not there. The 4 line message first few words Are - - - DOWNLOAD FAILED BECAUSE.....
That's the same message I got when I try it with the other choices.

Ok, that would indicate that the photo isn't even saving successfully, which is a good reason why it wouldn't show up in your gallery app.

Which email app are you using? Can you show us a screenshot of what the image looks like in the body of the email itself?

I'm using MyMail as my email app. I've used it for years and never had a problem with photos emailed to me.
The problem is with photos sent to me by Facebook users.
Some of the Facebook users can send photos that I have no problem with. I'm told that there is something they can do when sending photos to android users.

Go to Settings>Apps, select MyMail, then Permissions. Does it have permission for Files/Storage?

Try clearing the app cache for MyMail, and then Force Stop it.

Assuming that you're using an IMAP server for your email provider, you can also safely clear the app data.

On my pixel pro if there's a photo in my feed i tap the picture then 3 dots upper right corner tap it gives option save to device , when you choose this go to files manager app choose images and its there .

I tried your suggestiona, but it still doesn't work. I'm convinced that Facebook is the problem.
I've developed a convoluted workaround that photo can be viewed in another folder, but it's clumsy.
I don't have many Facebook friends that send me photos in that format.
Thanks again for your help with this.

Ok, glad you found a workaround! Without having your phone in my hand to fiddle with, it's hard to figure out any other solution.:-\
