1. I am using a Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017), initially my problem was my phone restarting by itself repetitively and I wanted to troubleshoot this so I did research looking into it and one of the reasons may be because I needed to update my phone (which I rarely do), so as I'm updating my phone it didn't occur to me that my phone would start restarting during the updating process, now all of a sudden after 3 restarts, a pop up message has appeared displayed through the software update page stating the following #fail to open recovery_cause (No such file or directory) #

#report recovery cause is [unknown] #
Support single-sku
File-Based OTA
Supported API: 3

2. At this point I begin losing my mind, I'm panicking and the phone restarts to only get stuck on the samsung loading screen not progressing whatsoever after hours of waiting.
3. I have tried rebooting via recovery mode, I have tried turning off the phone and "plugging" it & to no avail I'm not sure what to do. Is this the end of my phone? Is this the end of all my important files on my phone, is my phone retrievable without restarting the entire database?

I'm not phone techy and I have no idea what to do, can someone please help? I'm tempted to take these to the take guys.

Hi @Mustang,

Just an update on my previous reply to this message...

Changed USB port, download mode and it said added, odin ending, setup connection, initialisation, rqt_close!!, res ok!! removed!! remain port... 0 , all threads completed succeed 1 / failed - it says pass and went to restart but it is back to blue android installing system update to #fail to open recovery causes no such file or directory.

It has to say pass in Odin
Which Odin version your using?

If it took you to recovery after passing then factory reset in recovery

Thanks.

It isn't going into recovery... just flashing between screens like before...

Attached is pic of one screen that comes up on phone. This flashes intermittently with the blue android system installing update

Many thanks

Thanks a million.

Does that mean all data will gone?

Appreciate all your help. Thanks so very much. At least I know I've done all I can and that's down to you. Thank you. :)

Welcome,
Yeah it will erase everything , hopefully everything is back up

Thanks very much.

Haven't done it just yet. :)

One thing that keeps coming up every time I open odin is a warning message:

'Please be sure to delete your Google account (Samsung account) before downloading the binary.

It is not possible to use the device without unlocking. Changing the partition without unlocking will cause problems.

Please make sure to download the appropriate binary and version for your model.

Only option was to click ok which is what I've done each time but just wondering if whatever this is would have anything to do with it not working? I didn't delete any Samsung or Google account as I can't get into the phone.

Many thanks

Hello, I've got a problem with my Samsung Galaxy S7 (SM-G930F)
Today I went to install updates after quite some time.
During the installation something went wrong and the phone was stuck in a reboot loop.
It went from updating to a black screen with the "fail to open recovery..." message.

The problem I'm currently facing is not being able to enter download/recovery mode. My phone seems to be completely hard bricked (can't get any response from the phone).
I downloaded Odin but my phone's not recognised neither by Odin nor by my OS.

Is there anything I can do to boot my phone into recovery mode?
The classic Power+VolDown+Home button combination doesn't work, neither does just power button or power button + volDown.

Any help is appreciated.

What was your battery percentage at that point? If it doesn't recognize download mode or computer and your sure it doesn't need to be charged then either repair shop or move on from the device

I have similar issue with my S8 950FD. I have tried flashing a lot of official binaries from SamFW, Samfirm etc but none of them worked. In Odin, the flashing goes successful and then there I am with a Samsung Logo Powered by Android screen and no further processing. My KG state is prenormal (that's okay, I do not need any unofficial binary) but in stock recovery, I see dm-verification failed. Any help would be appreciated as I only want my phone to boot up.

Hi,

New to this forum, I have the "fail to open recovery_cause(No such file or directory)" error on my Galaxy S7 smartphone.

The phone was working fine till yesterday when it refused to boot... and blocked on the Samsung screen.

I finished to enter the recovery screen but with the so called error and dm-verity verification failed...

I followed this thread to reinstall my firmware (G930FXXU8EVG3) that I found on Sammobile.

I used Odin and got the following results:
pass.jpg
This was with HOME_CSC and all other files (BL, AP, CP)

But the phone doesn't boot...

I tried to upgrade with the CSC file:
MD5 verification is ok
MD5.jpg

But the process gets stuck on this screen
fail.jpg

I stayed on this screen during 1 hour without result.
Does it mean that my phone is dead ?
Or do I have something else to try ?

Thanks in advance
JP
