Farewell Nexus 4!

I mentioned earlier about how Traktor DJ states that audio latency is a problem on the Android platform and that is why they have no Android app available. Google has done a lot of work to fix those audio problems since 4.2 and on, but that leaves all kinds of phones out there that are running older OS versions. Also, look at all the phones being sold today that have old version of JB and earlier. They say there is only about 12.5% of all Android phones even running the latest JB version.

I'm unsubscribing from this thread, it's pointless to keep arguing. iPhone has new phones coming out next month so they are hardly irrelevant. iPads are coming soon too.

Yes and no. Apple is not doomed. Their mobile device ecoystem + retail stores will keep them in the black for another decade - even if they just make minor, yearly upgrades to their core products.

However, they are now full on competing with Nokia, HTC, Moto, LG, Sony, Google & everybody's favorite - Samsung, not to mention the other Korean and Chinese handset makers.

And they are lagging on innovation, whether you like the features or not - they are advancing the tech. NFC, Air touch/gesture control, knock knock, twist to use camera, always on voice, 1080p, bigger screens, front facing stereo speakers, built in fitness tracker. SIRI has been a failure, and Apple's cloud services are lagging and proprietary.

I think we should all use what we prefer and Apple makes great hardware and software, but it is not innovative. Apple is left with the customer service/retail store edge, and the app edge. They need a big product, we'll see.

IOS is old technology. It was ground breaking in it's day, but since that it has gone stagnant. A tweak here, a tweak there, that's it, nothing more. The big deal in the iPhone 5 was room for another row of iCons. Wow, that's groundbreaking. LOL Android is taking over the smartphone market, plain and simple.

And one of the first phones that had a dual core A15 based processor LTE bigger battery Bluetooth 4.0 LE(which I got a year later on my Nexus 4) all in a 4.0 display THATS impressive.

It doesn't. It however adds a lot of features that were overdue with a nice little surprise(air drop) I truly think iOS 7 was just the base and we can expect major upgrades with iOS 8 feature wise.

I've used both. I already had an iPhone and was about to purchase the iPad Mini, but then iOS 6 came out and 'Apple Maps' was the tipping point for me. I could no longer travel around foreign cities with the same ease. Since then i jumped to android. Since then I've purchased the Nexus 4, Note 10.1, and a Nexus 7. My next purchase cycle is in 2014, maybe I'll give Apple another chance then.
It wasn't just ths one app, other little things drove me to convert...

• I couldn't create a recurring calendar with an invitation
• Whatsapp needed internet and you needed to open the app to download messages (on android it just downloads in the background)
• Could only send one pic at a time within an email (also needed to attach pic before beginning to write e-mail)
• Poor communications app integration (On android, you can go to the phone app, tap to call, and then choose Skype, for example)
• On iOS, if you swap from one page to another, the app would just stop. On Android, pages load more than on iOS.

The list kept going... They've probably fixed a lot of this stuff, but for me it was a tipping point. For a coworker, I did suggest the iPhone over android. It really does depend on the person.

What do you expect?? This is an Android forum. If you want to switch to iOS, get on your horse and ride into the sunset. No need to start a thread about it. You should know what to expect starting an iOS tooting thread in an Android forum. I have nothing against iPhone, but I do prefer a larger screen and the flexibility that comes with Android. I find widgets plenty useful. I also like rooting and installing mods. I have improved on many things that Android has lagged on and some things just to make even better.

Except that this thread started out with an iPhone guy who tried Android via the Nexus 4 and liked it but decided to go back to iPhone with the next one coming out. Despite that, he now appreciates what Android has to offer and considers his time with the Nexus 4 a positive one. Others chimed in with how there's nothing wrong with trying/using both. And then the fanboys jumped in and things degraded from there.

Android needs a healthy iOS ecosystem against which to compete and vice versa, or they'll both stagnate.

Search for recent my posts back towards late June early July and you will see the ones where I compared the difference between several Android/iOS apps. There is a huge difference in many of them, especially were the iPad apps are concerned. Many of those same apps are just scaled up phone versions.

I even have several iPhone apps that look so much better with more features than on the Android side.

To paraphrase Steve Jobs, "Your doing it wrong". To get the best of both worlds you need to find equivalent apps.


What you are experiencing is only valid for vertical apps or apps that originated as iOS apps and have a small development house. It's hard to change an app design that was optimized for one platform.

What I recommend is when it comes to apps don't look for apps that exists on both platforms look for apps that are best in class. On a given platform.

For instance I read a lot of electronic books on iOS Bluefire is a good reader, one of the best. On android it stinks bad, it has most of the features iOS has but is missing a few. However on Android I use Moon+ Reader and Montano these readers are awesome. Both apps are android base and do not have iOS ports. As a matter of fact iOS does not have a product that even comes close to these products.
