Fascinate Froyo Speculation and Rumors

I'm relatively new here and I'm sure this has been discussed ad naseum, so I apologize if I missed the threads, but after seeing today that all the European Galaxy's are getting Gingerbread, what's the hold up with an official Froyo for the Fascinate? I know I could probably root and put Froyo on my phone, but I'm too scared and from what I read about Superclean 2.9 it's probably missing some of the Samsung stuff I like. I use Launcher Pro now and love everything about that. Any thoughts out there? Thanks.

babyfett,

It's likely at this point that Verizon has abandoned development for the Fascinate, for a whole host of reasons debated elsewhere. If you want to use Froyo/2.2, you'll need to download and install one of the abandoned, leaked (but surprisingly functional) versions of the firmware. There will likely not be any official ota release.

The most recent talk is that Verizon has shifted gears to focus on their upcoming product line, which is very ambitious, with the understanding that the leaked versions of Froyo will make the most technically savvy / vocal Fascinate end users happy enough until all this rage dies down.

Best,

T

That logic doesn't make a lot sense. There is no way that Verizon or Samsung would sell branded accessories (desk dock, car dock) that require 2.2 to fully function without knowing there would be an update to said version. Also, every other Galaxy S has been updated, so why would they leave us behind?

There will be an update to 2.2, but that will likely be the extent of support we see.

samsung sucks other then the super amoled screen it has been a disgrace they compelety took advantage of the customer...liars.

If it was just Samsung, then none of the Galaxy phones would have it...this is Verizons fault IMHO.

They need to maximize bloatware and have it all work together a bit before they release...again, just my opinion

your best bet.

:-\Does anyone have any word on inside info for the 2.2 froyo update?

Best thing you can do is root your fascinate and and throw froyo on yourself. Go into the forums at this fine website, find the VERIZON fascinate (not the canadian one). and follow the instructions given by all those wonderful developers concerning root, odin, and froyo.
Rooting then flashing 2.2 is not nearly as complicated as one would think, and honestly, if you ever want some froyo love for the fascinate you're probably going to have to put it on there yourself.
My personal recommendation is to use the latest build of superclean for your froyo fix, as it's one of the best i've ever laid eyes on.

Good luck, and don't hesitate to ask any questions when it comes to doing this yourself, all of us were nanites at one time too. :p

Maybe you should direct your sentiments to VZW. Since other carriers have relased froyo for thier Galaxy devices

It kinda makes sense. Carriers want to sell new devices. They want to entice make sure that customers have a compelling reason to buy a new phone. They have not seen the fact that by supporting older devices. It makes most money for them since customers will become more loyal

Personally I rooted and am running Superclean 2.9.2 Voodo with the EC10 Rom. My phone acts like it is supposed to and I get all the push notifications from 2.2 compatible apps. I will have to say that I did not get the push notifications until I updated to EC10.

Go to this link and it has ALL the instructions. It might look intimidating at first but there are PLENTY of people here who will stay up all hours of the night helping you out. Not me, but there are others. :-)

Just asked someone at the sammy support website here is what they have to say. I asked a about week and half ago and all they would say is we dont know and cant estimate. here is what they say now. shows a little light at the end of the tunnel.

bigjobber69: i want to know about 2.2 for fascinate

Stella: Thank you for the confirmation. Unfortunately, as of now Android 2.2 is not Officially released for the Fascinate.

Stella: Samsung is working closely with Verizon Wireless to complete the Android 2.2/Froyo platform upgrade for the Fascinate Smartphone as quickly as possible. Due to the complexity and unique functionality of the Fascinate, we are performing additional testing and are working to assure consumer satisfaction with the update.

Stella: Samsung and Verizon Wireless appreciate the patience and understanding from consumers who decided to purchase the Fascinate. We look forward to sharing the benefits of the Android 2.2/Froyo OS through a simple and reliable upgrade in the near future. Samsung will continue to keep consumers advised of our progress.
