Fascinate Getting Froyo 2.2 Accoring to VerizonWireless Twitter

Newbie question: I am not rooted, use Launcher Pro, Beautiful Widgets, etc. Will the update wipe out all the stuff I've done with these apps/launchers, etc? No big deal if it does, it will give me a reason to play with my set up for the tenth time in a month!

I don't think so but you might want to do a factory reset anyway. That way it will be fresh and new. But from when I got OTA updates, they never wiped my stuff out.

Ok with the time it took for them to get this out it was like a bunch of pot heads working on it. Got high talked about working on the update more then really working on the update. and if u ask a pot head "hey dude when u going to be done" they always say "soon man" so I guess 4 20 is the greatest day for this to come out on.

I just got off the phone with Verizon customer support. I was informed that the Android 2.2 update for the Samsung Fascinate has been approved and that Verizon will begin pushing it OTA at 11:59pm EST today (20-Apr-2011). It's about time!

I can't do OTA since I am on SC2.9.2! I have had Froyo for a while now!!! :)

Still BINGED LOL.

Way back when I remember seeing info regarding Froyo for the Fascinate that claimed that you'd be able to select either Bing or Google as your default search when the phone got Froyo. Does anybody know if this is the case with ED01 or will it still only default with Bing.

Thanks!

the only problem with bing, is that it has delayed this update.

other then that.. ive owned my phone since launch and havent used it once.. what am i missing? I dont use the little bing search thing or the google thing.. if i want to search something i hit the browser and type it in. works flawlessly and takes a few seconds

so i'm not exactly sure how it breaks the phone for anyone.

It's mostly a principle thing. A lot of people believe that if they are using a Google phone, it should be able to use Google search built-in, not having to use workarounds.

I'm with u I wouldn't care if it had yahoo search on it I don't use it anyways so bing or Google no big deal.

I'm still at 2.1-update1 but I have rooted my device. Do I have to roll back to stock (unrooted) in order for the 2.2 OTA update to work?

As long as you haven't messed with any of the system files and apps (bloatware) then you should be fine. Being rooted alone won't block the OTA, but missing VZW apps and system files will

I'm probably going to just stay put where I am on SC 2.9.2 I'm sure once the guys here get their hands on it, they will work their magic on it :)

so are we going to see a superclean update soon, or does the 2.2.1 build EB01 pretty much have anything the official release offers?

I updated to Froyo as soon as it came out here @ Android Central, I wouldn't even consider going back to Verizon's stock!

speaking of... there's so many nightlies released anymore I would like advice as to if I should keep what I'm running or if there is a superior update ?! of course if the answer to my 1st ? is yes, guess I'll wait for that!
I'm running:
Firmware 2.2.1
Baseband: sI500.04V.EB01
Kernel 2.6.32.9
Build SCH-I500.EB01

Thanks

The ED01 may "clean up" some issues that were present in EB01, but for the most part this shouldn't be too different. If you're happy with your setup, it probably ins't worth going back to stock to get a bloated OTA, and then have to wait for the devs to clean it up

'bout friggin' time. Shame on VZW...this should have happened months ago. Oh well...better late than never.

I use an awesome program called vlingo for my voice search, text/email by voice etc.. And when debinged I have it tied to the longpress of my search button.

You will not see anything get wiped if you do an OTA update. You may need to update some of your apps to a Froyo version and also don't forget to update your GMail and Flash player to 10.2 once you get Froyo.

With Bing on the phone, I hope the Dev can figure out how to get the Google VTT to work correctly.
