Fascinate SD card will not mount on a MAC with DL09/EB01

I was just informed by someone at Verizon that the reason my phone will not mount is because I am not using the USB cord that came with the phone. I cannot believe that is the case. Is everyone out there NOT using the USB cord from the box? Wait...is anyone who is having this trouble using the cord that came with the phone?

I'm using the original cord. That's certainly not the reason that it isn't working.

To follow up, I've located my original USB cord and that didn't make a difference. That woman talked to me like I was an idiot too....as she was advising me that the cords have drivers in them and so I needed to use the provided cord.

Nope don't worry. The Verizon techs are typically idiots. With the exception of the reps that keep themselves informed via websites such as these, they tend to know next to nothing of actual importance.

I will say this though.....

I just used the cord that came with the phone. Debugging turned on. Plugged it into my Macbook. This time, the phone actually asked me if I wanted to mount it to my computer. I selected Mount.....but nothing happens.

USB cord definitely should not have any difference. They all run off of the same standard. Typical Verizon rep :p

OK....so just got off the phone with Verizon AGAIN. This guy seemed to be more knowledgeable than any of the rest that I've spoken to. I'm more interested in what he DIDN'T tell me than what he DID tell me.

He said that after doing some research, he found that this is a known issue. Something about the drivers not working with Mac. He said he was holding in his hand a Fascinate that was running "testing software" and that he hooked it up to a Mac and it works fine, so he knows that on the next update, it will be back working.

I asked him if he was running 2.2....or just an update to 2.1 and he got this nervous laugh. When I pressed him, and said "So is it 2.2???" he kinda said "yeah". He said that I should pay close attention to the forums because they seem to be on target.

Of course, I take that all with a grain of salt....but he seemed like a pretty good guy. He said he could walk me through all the BS trouble shooting crap they are told to do, but he already knows it won't work....so if I wanted to, we could, but he didn't see the point in it.

So that's where I'm at right now.....no fix until the next update. He suggested alternatives that we've already discussed in here....guess we'll all be playing the waiting game.

Interesting. I'm hesitant to believe they'd release 2.2 so shortly after a maintenance update. If that's the case, why not release them together? I feel like, if anything, we'll see another maintenance release, followed by 2.2 in a month or so. Of course, if I'm wrong, I won't complain. ;)

this is driving me insane. i have a mac and was going to root right before the dl09 update but now that i did i can't. so i'm sitting in my school computer lab that's all macs and it won't connect to the windows xp pcs here either. i've looked at every thread of playing with settings on the phone, messing with drivers and turning the phone on and off and no success at all. i'm gonna switch to one of the windows 7 computers and try to see if i can connect at all

edit: installed drivers and everything to root the fascinate on my school's windows 7 computer and it's really easy and smooth so far. i think it might be certain os's maybe? i'm not really sure my brain is fried from studying

I had told him right before that that I had heard in the forums that 2.2 could be coming in as soon as 6 weeks. That's when he said the forums are usually pretty on target.

Well that's a possibility. Let's just hope it doesn't take that long to fix the computer connection issue. :)

Not sure how many this will help, but I am still able to sync over my wifi using DoubleTwist and AirSync. I primarily use it only for video/music but it still works fine over my wifi connection. :) If you're like me and really only think things like that I recommend trying that.

This is ABSOLUTELY ridiculous. After flashing a DL09 ROM, it broke the ability for me to mount on my Mac, and so I flashed back to DJ05, and it's still broken. You think these "testers" would have caught this....they should all be shot. LOL

Or they just don't care -- Samsung has said supposedly they "Don't support MAC" (which is BS if you ask me). Either way, I agree that it's ridiculous.

Which is really weird because I know for a fact I was able to do this in DJ05. When you flashed, did you flash back to DI01 and then flash DJ05?

Thank God getting to the SD card doesn't require a battery pull or I'd stick this thing in my microwave.

I'm on my 5th Samsung Fascinate phone and was just beginning to think that things were working just fine (for crappy Android that is!!!)... now this update renders it totally useless for media syncing? Why is the Samsung Galaxy range so popular, it's a piece of ****... I can't believe that Verizon won't let me replace it with a different model since there are constant problems with it, THIS IS MY 5TH FASCINATE!
this morning I plugged it in to my car stereo via usb which normally reads the SD card and plays the music tracks, but nothing.... proceeded to connect to my iMac... Nothing!.... connected to my Windows 7 PC..... Again nothing!!!

I HATE THIS PHONE!!!!

PS. Sorry for the rant.... gotta let it out somewhere! :-)

I figured I waste some time this morning and called verizon mysef.
It was an amazing journey. Apparently they must be getting somewhat aware of this issue (regardless of the fact that they expressed 'suprise').
I say this because the first thing the tech asked me was windows based connection question.
I told him I was using my fascinate on a mac and it had worked prior to the update.
I was transferred to someone else.. who after a number a re-explanations, verifications, etc. transferred me to a samsung tech (yes direct transfer, I was amazed too)
this is the interesting part.
The samsung tech did some checking (on hold AGAIN) and came back with the following.
"the only way we can fix your issue is to re-flash your phone"
'Back to DL01? " I asked, "correct, send us your phone and we will re-flash it back to DL01, expect a minimum of 6 working days".

Yea. right.. do w/o a cell phone for 2 weeks is what your saying?
The rep verified that was so, suggested I approach my local dealer.

I then asked - if I stay on this version, will there be a fix?
"no, the changes in question here are verizon specific we wont be releasing a patch to this update"

then what about froyo? how far out are we from that update?
"I cant comment on that."

I wish I didnt like this phone so much and hate fuhrer job's lockdown as much as I do or I'd burp this whole thing and head down to the apple store and get as far away from verizon as I can. There are no words to express the resentment I feel for verizon tossing mac users under the bus like this.
Nauseating completely Nauseating.

Question for the floor, has anyone tried to init the SD from the mac disk doctor once it pops up there? how about reformatting the flash from the phone itself?

I guess I'll pop this guy out - dd save it off, and try it.. that for after work.

even though were coming up with bupkis at tyhe moment, I really appreciate everyones input on this so far.

I'm a 2week old droid nanite and this place amazes me! Fabulous amount of info here, and a very notable lack of the usual divergent diatribe and flame wars makes this resource just that much more useful.

Its times like these I'm so happy that I used to have a Samsung Rant. Those things came with SD card things that you slide the SD card into and then slide the thing into the computer. I haven't really had a problem with sharing my files with my Mac. But rooting is a whole nother story.

This is absolutely on Verizon. Samsung handed them a build that probably functioned fairly well, and Verizon tweaked it with their VCast bloat which messed up the mount for computers that don't support it. VZW has to be more than aware that their program is designed for Windows. They also have to realize that their customers also use Macs. This just adds to my belief that carriers shouldn't be able to mess with smartphones. I couldn't care less what they do to $30 flip phones.. but if I'm paying $200 for the phone and $30 a month for data ON TOP of the rest of my plan, I want a phone that works as the manufacturer (and in this case OS designer) intended..

/end rant

In any case.. Hopefully VZW fixes this soon. Perhaps we need to hit them up with a massive amount of phone calls, emails, and tweets?
