i was thinking about returning it as i thought it was defective because i have not had a phone in a long time with a battery this bad... but it seems like its not my phone.

I've posted some excellent battery life results here - getting over 6 hours of screen on time with the V20. All of a sudden it's draining like crazy - noticed FB and messenger using a lot of juice and have stopped those 2 apps from running for now.

i have a stupid question.. should these be off or on ? I am assuming they should be "off" and only turn the ones "on" that i do not want optimized? Or should they be switched to "on" to optimize them?

No you are right they should be off by turning it to on it ignores battery optimization

I find it very interesting that this complaint happens in every Android phone forum be it Samsung, LG, Sony, HTC, etc etc...

It's like there is something Google does every few weeks or months that causes a lot of Androids to suddenly start eating up battery and nobody has yet to figure out what it is.

I am seeing similar complaints in S7 and S7 EDGE forums recently as last week.

It helped mine! I have been running hot since late last night. I uninstalled Facebook and messenger and it's running cool again!

Most times, when an app goes rogue, it will pull system services with it. It also won't let the phone sleep so you will see a higher keep awake time in Android system.

Rapid battery drain on my T-Mobile V20 today also! I too updated Facebook this morning. It went from 97% to 5% while I was at work today. I wasn't even using the phone during that 3 & 1/2 hour period. My phone was very warm also... The phone is only two weeks old and has had great battery life until now... Hopefully this gets sorted out soon! Weird!

Clearing the cache on Facebook and Facebook Messenger apps seemed to have worked for me. I did this while it was charging. I took my phone off the charger at work at about 3:30 and it is still at 100%. That seems more normal.

My G5 was doing it this morning and Facebook and fb messenger were the biggest drain. Talked to my friend and his v20 was doing the same. Pulled battery twice and all seems well now. Damn Facebook!!!
