Fast battery drain (started today out of nowhere)

Happened to me yesterday. Checked the battery stats. Facebook and Facebook messenger drained 19% of the battery a peice. Never even had them opened. Deleted last night and today my battery is still at 90% 8 hours after I took it off the charger.. No more fb or fb messenger for me for awhile..

What battery stats did you check to determine that FB was the culprit? I too experience higher than usual battery drain this morning, but non of the battery stats had FB as the culprit. Uninstalled FB and battery does not seem to be draining as fast now.

I used the diagnose and it popped up telling me those two apps were draining my battery. 19% each and gave the option to uninstall or ignore.

On Note 5 and my wife's and my phones started the same drain after the VZW update. I have restarted my phone 4x now. It seems to have fixed it or lessened the issue. Not sure if that actually did anything or the update has matured enough on the phone. My battery kept saying the Android OS was the major draw. Hope this helps.

I went running with over 75% charge and my battery died 15 minutes into my run. I had recently installed an OS update. Is this possibly a problem with the update?

My phone had this issue yesterday as well. I stopped FB app yesterday. Went home threw it on the charger got it up to 72% before i had to leave and it held 72% for probably 2 hours i was taking pictures and recorded a video so the issue seems to have disappeared...
They were all hacking our phones at once! that is my thoughts.. HAHA.

Probably some 400 pound Russian hacking from his bed

Same thing happened to me. Checked battery usage and it said my PIA VPN app was to blame. Uninstalled it and battery life is back to normal.

My battery life isn't as great as well. I suspected that the following apps I've installed and allowed to run in the background: Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, various online dating apps, GroupMe, and possibly some more. The thing is these apps are running in the background 24/7 on standby waiting to give you notifications. I would cut down on these types of apps, and use Greenify for apps I rarely use. Without these apps, I could easily get 6-7 hours SOT. With these apps I get about 4 hours SOT.

Just use Metal or Folio instead of Facebook. Web based Facebook browsers with messaging capabilities.

Facebook seems to be the culprit for many users. I was scanning through my battery stats yesterday and was shocked to see how much battery usage - and, I admit, time - had been spent on Facebook over a 24-hour period.

Yeah I saw that too. I'll give it a few days and see if I want to install fb again... I'm usually off and on with that app anyway

This is my first time going without the FB app and it is a bit smoother than the Swipe app I'm using so I do miss it a bit. I'm definitely noticing some improved battery life though. I wonder if I were to just shut down push notifications on the FB app it would solve the battery drain? Even looking at my battery stats today, Android OS and Android System have much lower usage percentages.

Tried that.. Shutting down notifications and even enabling Nougat's built in data saver to only affect FB didn't work.

Try Friendly, the UI seems nice. I just found it yesterday.

I'm seeing two of them. Friendly for Facebook and Friendly for FB. Do you like it better than Swipe? I like Swipe but it just isn't quite as optimized as FB of course. I really don't want to download FB and Messenger again.

Friendly for Facebook.. The one with the Android face as the icon. I don't know if I like it better yet. Swipe wouldn't let me message in the app yesterday so I found Friendly and it still works for me.
