Fast battery drain (started today out of nowhere)

Tried that.. Shutting down notifications and even enabling Nougat's built in data saver to only affect FB didn't work.

Try Friendly, the UI seems nice. I just found it yesterday.

I'm using friendly, works great, had it for about 2 weeks now.

Friendly for Facebook.. The one with the Android face as the icon. I don't know if I like it better yet. Swipe wouldn't let me message in the app yesterday so I found Friendly and it still works for me.

That's strange. I tested the messaging capabilities through Swipe yesterday and it worked for me. I did notice that if you try to access messages through a browser, it says "soon you will only be able to access messages through the Messenger app" or something like that. That annoys the hell out of me. Facebook has become an absolute monster.

Do you get notifications with Friendly? With Swipe, you can only set it to sync at a desired interval. I'm just curious if you can get push notification with Friendly. I realize that push notifications eat up more battery but I think there is more to the FB app that causes battery drain than just push notifications.

Facebook should give us all an apology for making us all suddenly dislike our phones within the last 24 + hours because of a horrible battery scare that they caused us 😬

They did in the tweet :).

You can try Metal as well for a FB replacement.

Even though I didn't think I was having accelerated battery drain, I did force close FB Messenger to see if I noticed anything. I think my battery life did noticeably increase, but I think it also fixed my slow charging issue. Even though it was saying it's fast charging, it was still taking several hours even if the screen was off.

I caved and re-installed the Facebook app. Haven't re-installed Messenger yet. I suppose I will wait until I get a message to do that. I will be monitoring the battery closely today. Swipe is a decent alternative though.

My v20 did the same thing a couple of days ago I noticed my battery was at 15% very early in the day a around 11:30 but I haven't had it happened again since then gotta keep my eyes on it.

I think it got almost all of us

Oh wow and I thought I was the only experiencing this. I have deleted FB and messenger and just did a reboot on my V20. So, we'll see if that works!

I uninstalled and reinstalled both Facebook and Messenger....all is well now. I have tried many of the Facebook wrapper apps from the store, Swipe being the favorite so far, but there a always a few little things they don't do well such as posting photos and such from other apps. Normally battery drain from the regular Facebook app is not too bad for me.

You guys don't have to fully remove the app or remove and re-add .. just to clear data on the app :).

I didn't even do that. I just force stopped mine. No data or even cache clearing, and noticed improvements.

Can anyone explain how everything is just fine for a couple of months, then all of sudden there's a mass battery drain for what seems like all V20 users at the same time?

It wasn't just V20 users as people reported issues on other devices as well. And it wasn't all V20 users as I had no issues whatsoever but I don't use Facebook. The issue was server side with Facebook.
