Fast Charge (Quick Charge) on my Note 5 is broke

So very strange. I can charge my Note 5 when using a slow (below 1amp) charger. But when I use Quick Charge 2.0 chargers (that I have been using for months) or high amp (over 1 amp) chargers my Note 5 goes bezerk and makes that connection noise repeatedly, opens the Gear VR app automatically, shows a notification "USB connection connected" and behaves like it is about to blow up. It just started doing this today. I didn't drop it nor get it wet. There is no lint in the usb port. I took the case and screen saver off in case that was the problem..nope. I tried rebooting in safe mode...no fix. Tried multiple chargers...nope. Tried multiple usb cables...nope. Placed it while off in rice bag for 15 minutes...nope. Erased any apps and updates I did in recent days...nope. Tried different outlets...nope. Rebooted multiple times...nope. If the usb port works with low flow chargers then it makes me believe that the port is fine and maybe something to do with the fast charging mechanism. Anyone seen this before?

I'm loathe to do the factory reset just yet as it will take long to get back and running.
But everything else I have pretty much tried.

Now get this: I think I may have found the issue. Yesterday I bought from the local hardware depot two motion detector units that screw into light bulb sockets and a light bulb then screws into them. My problems didn't happen until after I installed them. Three times now I have removed them and then tested. 2 out the three times it stopped happening! The phone does seem to think some kind of Gear VR accessory is attached and at one point it had a notification a dock was unattached from it. So it would seem the phone is getting some kind of data signal through the USB port. My theory is that the motion detectors are causing electrical interference on my house's power wiring and affecting my phone. I can't why it didn't on the second attempt other than perhaps this electrical disturbance can linger. So I am down to two theories:

1. electrical wiring interference because of the two new motion detector units
2. my microusb port/quick charging facility is broken

I'm trying to find some kind of device I can plug into the socket that specifically filters out interference and then test from there with the motion detectors in to further troubleshoot.

If you have a spare phone load Smart Switch onto both and transfer everything from your Note 5 to the spare. Do a factory reset on the Note 5.
Transfer everything back from your spare phone using Smart Switch.
You are good to go.

So, as an update, I returned those motion detectors and have not had a problem since. Pretty much 100% positive they were causing electrical interference on my home's wiring that would screw up my Quick Charging on my Note 5. I search the forums and the web for people having the same issue as me and most never had a solution...I surmise they somehow had a newly added device on their electrical wiring that was causing the issue.

Happened to me as well. Today, I switched out the fast-charging wall adapter to one I've never used and BOOM! Problem solved. The other one was REALLY hot. Thank God it was not the phone. I'd give that a try.

Hope that helps.

Be well,

Ken
