FierceWireless: Verizon will kill 'grandfathered' unlimited data

Re: FierceWireless: Verizon will kill 'grandfathered' unlimited d

This is going to hurt me. I do average of 12gb a month since I got my maxx. I'm guessing I'll have to calm down on Netflix, Hulu and Slacker. Ill probably cancel Slacker and Hulu since I won't be using them much after the unlimited goes away.

I just talked to customer service and like anything Verizon does, they have no idea. It's probably going to be a different answer each time you call.

Because this isn't official yet- just the CFO mentioning future plans.

Unless circumstances change and the unlimited 4G data plan is no longer available.

No they wont have unlimited. I spoke to verizon today about it.

Re: FierceWireless: Verizon will kill 'grandfathered' unlimited d

They told me I will lose my unlimited data and go to a 4g plan...

I am beginning to hate Fran Shammo and I have no clue regarding anything about him, other than he's the CFO of VZW and LOVES delivering bad news.

Let's go back in time shall we. Vzw gets iPhone and makes a lot of deals. Customer get screwed. What 3g smart is getting lte this fall........waiting OK I'll tell its iPhone 5 lte and guess that's a lot iPhones being upgraded to 4g so what will vzw do what any carrier would stick the user and say by by unlimited data. And family data will save every one money. Will it? Currently 10gb is $80 I use 20gb a month on my nexus streaming TV shows from my house. I have a mifi with 10gb plan I use 8gb then I stop using I have a bionic with 8gb and use 4gb for 30$. My data bill alone is $140 a month. If vzw can provide me with a family data bundle of 30 gb for $100 I'd b OK. But I don't see it happening in the end I and lot of power users will b shafted. Thank you Apple for messing up my life.

That would hopefully mean that those of us with 4G won't lose it. Very rarely does Verizon or other cellular companies change your plan without a new contract. If were lucky, we may be able to buy a phone at retail and keep the unlimited plan active if were in 4G. Well, until Verizon comes up with a lame excuse and says the name of the feature is no longer 4G but rather LTE. No difference on their end other than the name, but that appears to be the tactic.

Re: FierceWireless: Verizon will kill 'grandfathered' unlimited d

I did call customer service moments ago, and the person denied that this is happening, and he said it would really upset a lot of customers if that happened. IF this whole news turns out to be false, someone's going to lose his/her job for spreading this malarkey. :P I still remain skeptical, though.

Still don't understand why people feel the need to call customer service to check.

Exactly. It's just as bad as those saying, "It's only a rumor".

I don't know about you, but when the CFO of a corporation says it, I think that scores higher than a "Rumor" on the probability meter.

That's why I said I am skeptical about what was said by the reps.

By the way, I did mention that I wanted corporate and/or those of higher management to know if the enforce this policy, they will lose me and millions of others. I didn't just want to know if the news on forcing all to be on tiered data to be true or false.

Why would a CFO say anything like that knowing the public and the news media is going to talk it. What a NIMROD! I think its an easy way of vzw telling customers that if you have a 4G unit will be forced out of unlimited data. Could it be the new IPHONE 4G is coming out by fall?

I'm already looking into switching to Sprint. I'm sure all the carriers are going in the same direction with policies, but look at Sprint... They are still standing with unlimited which to me says something for them. Maybe if they go to tiers, they'll let their grandfathered customers actually keep it. If anything, they are hurting the most to keep subscribers. They do have incentive there.

I hate being loyal to any corporation, but for the most part, I've been loyal to Verizon for the last 12 years. I've referred tons of people to them, etc. In the last year, they've really made me rethink why I'm even there.

Re: FierceWireless: Verizon will kill 'grandfathered' unlimited d

I have proved many times to vzw there customer service is terrible. Most reps know very little about the product they are selling.

They may lose you, but I doubt they'll lose millions.

It softens the blow a bit. By now, we should all (and by we, I'm talking about this community) know that unlimited data is going away - completely. Having more talk about it will probably lead to the "regular" folks hearing a bit here and there.

That's nice.

However, I don't expect reps to know about quotes from the CFO in some random article.

To me what is the big deal over data anyway. Why should it matter how much data a person is using a month.

Strain on the network, bandwidth, etc.

Seriously?
