Fingerprint biometrics on this phone drives me nuts!

In my opinion, they are the worst of any phone I have had. At least 50 percent of the time, not one of my four prints works. Very disappointing. I also miss the iris scan in Samsung Pay.

These 3 pro tips made a huge difference for me with the FPS:

1. Remove the factory-installed screen protector.

2. Keep your fingertips well-hydrated. Dry and cracking fingerprints change on a daily basis and are the biggest cause of failed authentications. IMO, moisturize for a week then redo your fingerprints and experience a huge difference! (And then keep them well-moistened.)

3. Instead of scanning each finger as a separate, well, finger, scan multiple finger tips as part of "fingerprint 1", "fingerprint 2", etc.

I always comment on these posts that I've been pleasantly surprised how well teh FPS has worked on my N20U... And I run a Spigen plastic screen protector since day one.

And how my Note 8 FPS to compare was basically useless.

Im sorry to hear that :(

Try register the same finger twice and do one index finger ,some finger have better results or other thumb . Turn screen sensitivity on in settings>display still have face unlock but not like the Iris scanner

A couple of tips I picked up when setting up the finger prints are.

When setting up take x3 scans with each thumb and then rotate the phone around when taking further prints of each thumb so your phone can read both thumbs from the same finger print scan. Scan your prints as you would normally hold the phone.

Also using two fingers when setting up one fingerprint works pretty well.

Go into Settings . Biometrics and Security. Biometrics Preferences . Turn Off Screen Transition Effect.

Then go into Settings and search for Optomise Battery Usage. Tap in Optimise Battey Usage tap to show All and scroll down to com.samsung.android.biom and toggle Off

For me this improved the fps on my Note.

I also have dry skin on my fingers and so find it sometimes beneficial to moisten my fingertip by breathing on it before unlocking the phone.

For me no problems. Just i scanned and registered one finger multiple times upsidedown or like differently. 3 or 4 have saved of 1 fingerprint 👍

I don't use a screen protector. Yeah, it must just be me. I have never had fingerprint problems with any other phone.

I got the A52 5G...

I guess the FPS has been improved that it works with a tempered glass and my N20U doesn't.

I fully agree, most disappointing part of the Note 20 Ultra for me, I actually enter the 4 digit pin most of the time as it's faster.

Even that awful swipe FPS on the Note 4 worked better.

Reset it multiple times, but it always requires my finger in the exact right spot at the right angle with the right amount of pressure or it fails. I've got no screen protector.

I've come the conclusion that some people's fingers work better than others. Mine works pretty good except when my fingers are dry.

I've been impressed with the FPS on my N20U. Like it works amazingly well; noticeably better than my former N10+. But my girlfriend has the same phone and she is constantly griping about how her fingerprints hardly ever work. I dunno.

It's not just you.
My fingertips are often dry due to my work. Moisturizing helps, but it's a fact for me that the in-screen fps has been far inferior to the "old" technology that never gave me a problem. I've tried all the suggested tips, and re-registered 100 times using everyone's suggestions, and the scanner is still a disappointment. I'm still on a Note 10+, hopefully the newer phones are better, but I think some people's skin type just doesn't work well with this tech.

No problems with mine, as soon as I upgraded from the Note 10+ my first thought was how much faster the FPS was.

After purchasing the Note20U last year, initially, my fingerprint scanner was flawless. Soon after, an update changed that & it became a struggle.

I tried some of the procedures that @bandofbrothers2112 had suggested last year & that did improve things.

I added my Husband's prints to my phone & he added my prints to his phone in case of emergency. (No trust issues between us.) He can open my phone in a flash. I struggle to open his with my prints. I have decided I have defective 'digits'.
:(

After adding, deleting, & adding again several times, I have had decent success with resting my thumb on the scanner icon & just leaving it in place until it graciously allows me into my phone.

Hope it gets better for you...

I've also been disappointed in the FPS on my Note 20U. Much slower and inconsistent than the one on my Note9. I had the Note9 out the other day and was reminded of the difference. Yes, I've tried the tricks listed in this thread. Still just not as good.

I'm of the opinion it has to do with the shape/orientation of the FPS vs how I hold the phone and reach my thumb towards.

Probably doesn't help I burned my thumb a few months ago, could have messed up the finger print. Either way I still miss the physical button FPS from the S7/N5, it worked better for me than any other FPS Samsung has used.

The second generation ultrasonic fingerprint sensor in the S21 Ultra is a huge improvement over the first gen. I've had 95% success rate unlocking my S21 Ultra with gen 2. It was garbage in gen 1.

While it's not as easy or reliable as the dedicated scanner on my Note 9, I don't have many problems even with a Tocol glass screen protector on it. I turned up the sensitivity, then registered my prints. No biggie.

Yeah...everyone has a different experience. My Note and S series up through the 20s inscreen FPS were and are pretty reliable.
