Fingerprint Scanner Not Working Well

I was thinking of swapping my iPhone X for this but this could be a dealbreaker. I use facial recognition for Apple Pay all the time and was hoping it would be just as convenient on the S10+. Luckily my wife is getting the S10 first so I’ll use her as a guinea pig!

Yesterday I used my iPad pro with face id and gave up on finger print reader on my s10 plus till they update it.

I think the face unlock is annoying. On the N9, I had an option where face rec would only start when you swipe. Now, it's on as soon as screen is on. What usually happens is I put my thumb on the scanner to unlock, by then face unlock has already opened me in, and i instead "bump" the lockscreen, keeping me there for an extra second where I would've been already into the phone if only one was working.

Well that is if it is a software issue. If the issue is just the nature of the hardware there will be no fix.

The face unlock is fast and easy. The Fingerprint is an absolute disaster. I tried all the way to work in the car while it was in a mount. It unlocked 1 time out of about 20 tries.

It's funny all the review videos of it not working, and smart *** commenters on every video: "uhhh you're doing it wrong" you're supposed to tap it. Well, if you tap it, it says press harder. If you press harder it says no match or hold it over the whole sensor.

All the reviewers weren't doing it wrong ,the thing's a POS and they were just trying to get it to work, lol

My fingerprint sensor works much better after a day of use and getting used to using it, but it is a definite step back from previous hardware fingerprint sensors and Face ID.

I gave up the iPhone XS Max because the face id is a pain in the rear. They should have never gotten rid of the fingerprint sensor

Is there a way to permanently display the location of the fingerprint sensor on the lock screen along with the always on display? I think that will help with positioning and improve the success rate

POS? Yeah okay. It's a brand new innovation. When something first comes out it takes a while to get it to work right. Or you wait 3 years and get it to work right and present it as something revolutionary

No, it's a $1000 phone, put out by a multi billion $ company. It should work.

Here is a tip to get used to the new scanner, tap the screen, when in lock screen, away from the fingerprint scanner, this will light up the scanner, this will give you time to get use to the location.

I thought I read that there would be an update that will take care of this. You'll be able to see the location with always on display.

Here is a tip to get used to the new scanner, tap the screen, when in lock screen, away from the fingerprint scanner, this will light up the scanner, this will give you time to get use to the location.

For a lot of us, the scanner does not work fine, even when we know where the sensor is. Maybe the difference is simply that different people's prints are more or less prominent. For me, if my skin is even a little dry, the reader does not want to read.

Brand new for Samsung yes .. but there have been other under the screen FP scanners on various other non-super popular phones. Samsung is just finally diving in with it to try and reduce the notch complaints / FP scanner being high up on the back complaints.

Really. Please tell me which one's are using an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor? Not an optical one

After updating and removing the screen protector it is now working much better. Not nearly as fast as my s9 did though.

Yeah the ultrasonic is new but you are acting as if they are the only ones to ever try an under the glass FP scanner.

We get it you are cool with paying a premium price for something not working as well just as long as they don't wait to bring it out after making it work well. You are cool being a beta tester.. some may not be. Hence the differing opinions.

It's not brand new. You do realize these kinds of things are years in the making right? Samsung didn't get these in last month and shove them in to a phone they had ready to go. Although it does sure seem like it, lol.

Guys and gals, I had to look up my old username/password just to post this:
Remove that damn screen protector. Got my s10+ yesterday and was frustrated to no end with FPS. Coming from Note 8 which was working by barely touching the back of the phone and unlocking the new S10+ was a disaster. I tried every setting, watched every Youtube video. Registered my damn thumb 4 times trying to improve recognition and all I was getting, try harder, try in the center, this and that and 90 out of 100 no go.
Removed the screen protector this morning for sh and giggles. Boom! Works every time!

I guess sort of like being cool for paying for a fast charger when everyone else includes it for free
