Fingerprint Scanner Not Working Well

No, it's a $1000 phone, put out by a multi billion $ company. It should work.

You're 100 percent correct. It should work correctly prior to release. It doesn't always pan out that way but It seems like some are coming to the defense and saying it's acceptable because it's new tech. Those same defenders would jump all over the issue and shout it from rooftops if it was a brand they didn't like. I'm hoping they correct it so that it works for everyone satisfactorily.

I guess sort of like being cool for paying for a fast charger when everyone else includes it for free

I don't get what you're saying but K. We also get you have an obvious bone to pick with Apple but it's odd you keep bringing that up as if them waiting to bring something out somehow excuses Samsung for possibly having something not working well.

Not sure how what one company does can excuse the other for an error on doing something.

Guys and gals, I had to look up my old username/password just to post this:
Remove that damn screen protector. Got my s10+ yesterday and was frustrated to no end with FPS. Coming from Note 8 which was working by barely touching the back of the phone and unlocking the new S10+ was a disaster. I tried every setting, watched every Youtube video. Registered my damn thumb 4 times trying to improve recognition and all I was getting, try harder, try in the center, this and that and 90 out of 100 no go.
Removed the screen protector this morning for sh and giggles. Boom! Works every time!

I am not removing a screen protector on a $1000 device. That's just stupid.

Well not sure with someone being cool has to do about buying a phone but okay too !

Well, the film that I removed can hardly be called a "screen protector" it's the same cheap plastic they use on the back of the phone for shipping. I've had a ton of phones and never scratched gorilla glass anyway. But if you drop it, that cheap plastic is not going to save it from cracking anyway.
I'm enjoying s10+ fully now, best galaxy ever.

So far I have seen:

  • Make sure you use lotion or oil
  • Delete everything and start again
  • Register your thumbs twice (or more)
  • Change some settings
  • People channeling Steve Jobs and saying everyone complaining is just doing it wrong

How is that ok? This is not a niche device. This is the most popular flagship Android device that will come out this year. You should not need to do anything "special" or "extra" for a basic feature like unlocking your phone to work the way it should.

If you're ok with how it is, fine, different expectations for different people. But let's not kid ourselves here, it's not working as well as it should.

Like when the Pixel came out with the screen that a lot of people were complaining about it and people were defending it to the moon?

If a company tries something new and it doesn't work quite right I'm not going to bash them because it's not working exactly 100% correctly when they release it. Like the Nokia 9 Pureview. If the pictures don't come out excellent I'm not going to bash them for at least trying something new. Or the phones with the pop up camera. If it doesn't pop up all the time the exact correct way it's supposed to I'm not going to bash them because at least they are trying something different. But that's just me. I applaud a company for trying something new

For me it's just making sure I hit the reader every time. As I've unlocked more it's gotten better. Part of my problem is also my dry skin, which was a problem with the note 9's as well.

I totally agree. People demand new tech. Then get it. Then demand it be perfect the first go round. Most new tech has issues the first time. Thus why there is a lot of people who skip first gen products from cars to phones.

The fps I believe can be improved with software updates. Unfortunately this is the cost for a early adopter. My fps works 90% of the time first try. Still getting used to it. I have faith it will improve.

You're bringing up devices that are purposely not mainstream to support your argument. The Nokia 9 is a limited release device. Specifically because they need to perfect the new tech and make it better for the mainstream consumer.

Samsung did not do that. They put new tech, which is already proven to be less reliable and consistent than the previous models solution, in their mainstream device. They deserve the negative attention they're getting because of it.

Even waiting for the next Note would have been better, since that is still seen as a less mainstream, more niche device.

My screen protector has a couple of tiny bubbles in it o the bottom right. I'll try taking it off and see if it helps.

Otherwise, does anyone know Samsung.com return policy? Is there a restock fee?

Whoosh goes my point over your head. :)

Other companies are putting unproven tech in devices that are not their flagship device, and are in some cases (like the Nokia 9) specifically saying it's a limited release device. Even Apple, which someone brought up already, only put FaceID in their non-mainstream device for the first year, before making advancements and rolling it out to their entire line the next year.

As far as excepting sub-par performance in "never been done before" tech, yeah, sure, you do you. But it can still be compared to the previous solution and conclusions can be made as to whether it is an actual improvement or not. In this case, the answer seems to be "no".

I've come to the conclusion we are going to agree to disagree. I don't think they should be bashed that bad but that's what I think. If you all believe that they should be bashed that's fine.

Say what you will about "new tech".

One of the reasons I've never bought a PIXEL phone, is because they are known for Beta Testing their customers. The headlines of issues on Pixels vs any other phone is unbelievable, and I don't know how people continue to buy them at Flagship prices. For that reason I'd never buy one. I've owned Samsung phones since the Vibrant, and this type of stuff is not what you expect from them, which is why I'm so hard on them for this. If it wasn't ready, and clearly it's not, they shouldn't have done it. Period.

Negative attention from who? People on this forum who account for 0.5% of all people who will buy these phones?

I haven't seen a single review yet that has mentioned the FPS being a huge issue.

Yes, dry skin seems to make it much worse. It worked great this morning when my hands had hair oil on them, now it's acting up again.
