Fingerprint Scanner Not Working Well

OK just set up my s10+ fps works like a charm. Just a light tap is all that's necessary. Occasionally asks me to apply more pressure or leave longer or whatever, but otherwise very reliable and fast. I didn't remove the plastic screen protector either and it works fine for me. So I really don't know what the big deal is here. Perhaps let a family member or friend register fingerprints and see if they have the same problems. It's probably just user error IMO.

Wow, I had the same problem but, I tried what was suggested in this thread and used three fingerprint positions for my right thumb. Now it works 95 out of 100. Big and I mean big improvement.

Yeah I registered my main thumb twice. But once seems to be working fine with the remaining two prints.

Just received the update on the unlocked US S10+ and the fingerprint scanner is so much better and responsive after the update to me personally. If you haven't received the day one update yet, it'll improve a lot after the update.

I made the screen more sensitive, then scanned the thumb I use the most twice, my right index once and left thumb once.

Either I'm getting better at opening it or the phone is also learning to recognize my thumb, I feel like it gets better the more I do it.

I still prefer the FPS on the back like the Note 9. I think the only reason I'm keeping the S10 + at this point is because of the wide angle camera, or else I'd probably stick with my Note 9.

Last night I was pretty frustrated with the FPS on my S10+. Came an read this thread and then got the software update this evening from AT&T. Immediately downloaded it and then registered my right thumb twice along with my right index finger twice. Seems to be working really well now. As many have stated, I would imagine the technology will improve over time and future software updates should help as well.

So I retrained the FPS.
It's working really well now.
Just like all the review videos.
Even with the factory screen protector on the glass.

Glad to hear so many are having better luck with it now! Unfortunately, no suggestions make it better for me apart from keeping my thumbs moist.

I'm not taking off the screen protector, no chance. The option to make the screen more sensitive doesn't mention the fingerprint scanner, the underscreen fingerprint scanner may not be affected by this setting at all. I have the update and I have my thumb registered three times for those saying ads more! Yes, I am tapping, I am holding, I am prodding, I am placing my thumb flat, I am using the tip.. it honestly doesn't matter. Eventually it stops working altogether and will not recognise my thumb over 50 attempts.

The ONLY thing that has made it better is to keep my hands moisturised!

For the lockscreen the fingerprint reader worked 50% of the time for me and then I removed the preinstalled screen protector and it works 60% of the time now as far as unlocking from the lockscreen. I also use my phone a lot with lastpass and unlocking banking and other apps. In those cases it works 80% of the time for me.

Alright so a few days later and the fingerprint scanner is working much better for me. It is maybe working about 90% of the time for me whether from the lockscreen or using the scanner to unlock apps. I'm sure that part of it is that my muscle memory is improving, but I'm also wondering if the phone is "learning" my fingerprint as I continue to use it.

My main piece of advice to people still having issues with it is that you do kind of need to "press" into the scanner almost like a button or the pressure sensitive button that was on the S8 and S9. The cases when it doesn't work for me are either 1) I'm pressing too lightly, or 2) I misplaced my finger. If Samsung updates the software to show the finger location on the always on display screen, that would be helpful.

Overall, the only other downside I see to the S10 fingerprint scanner is that there is no way to feel where the scanner is so that you can unlock it as you're taking it out of your pocket. With my S9 or even the front facing scanner on the S7, I could place my finger on the scanner as I was pulling it out of my pocket so that by the time I'm looking at it, it's unlocked. With the S10, I have to bring it up, look at it and unlock it. I'm sure I will get quicker at this but still, I'm thinking that a side fingerprint reader would've been the best of both worlds.

Definitely give it a few days before passing judgement on the fingerprint scanner!!!

Just got update for at&t s10 Pluse.Looks like it had fixed the finger print scanner. I have tried it 20 times and work everytime.

When I first got it, it seemed like it was working okay. The next morning, I had a much harder time, although it got a little better. This morning, I got the AT&T update. After updating, I re-did my fingerprints and it seems to be working pretty close to 100%. I've read some posts that have said to just tap it, but that doesn't work for me because it just tells me to press harder, lol. A quick press (but not a hard press) seems to do the trick for me. I'm finding that it can be a fairly quick press though. Just did a little more practice. When I use my index finger, it seems like I can tap it. When I use my thumb, it's a little more finicky.

Its the one thing that has surprised me actually.

having watched many YT vids re the fingerprint sensor its actually easier to use than Id heard.

From the getting the phone out of the box I had press the FPS fairly hard but after a couple of updates its now fine and I hardly have to press down at all and its practically 100% accurate.

Ive only set it up with 1 thumb and as I have said, for me, its been absolutely fine.

Don't know if this will help anyone..
I place my right thumb on the scanner at a slight angle, with the top of my thumb pointing towards 11 o'clock .

So I removed the factory screen protector and added a Skinomi screen protector. I then deleted all the stored fingerprints and re-added new ones. So far it is night and day better! I have tried the FPS at least 20 times with both thumbs and not one fail. Another thing is the speed at which it works it much faster.

Thanks for sharing your positive comments. Can't wait to test it out.

I also use Skinomi and your post puts me a little more at ease. Thanks for sharing.

I'm on AT&T and maybe I need to receive that update you guys are getting? I haven't had any updates yet.. My fingerprint scanner doesn't work well most of the times.

Why do some people get updates before others? Mine phone is still showing no updates availible.
