Fingerprint Scanner Not Working Well

The ONLY thing that has made it better is to keep my hands moisturised!

There might be some truth to this... after doing dishes with Dawn Ultra and my hands now not having any grease/oil what so ever, now the FPS is giving my grief!

Glad to hear so many are having better luck with it now! Unfortunately, no suggestions make it better for me apart from keeping my thumbs moist.

I'm not taking off the screen protector, no chance. The option to make the screen more sensitive doesn't mention the fingerprint scanner, the underscreen fingerprint scanner may not be affected by this setting at all. I have the update and I have my thumb registered three times for those saying ads more! Yes, I am tapping, I am holding, I am prodding, I am placing my thumb flat, I am using the tip.. it honestly doesn't matter. Eventually it stops working altogether and will not recognise my thumb over 50 attempts.

Sound will travel better with moisture on fingers. Ultrasound waves don't travel well in air. The moisture with your fingers helps conduct the sound waves. If you ever had an ultrasound the transducer has gel on it to conduct the sound waves. So dry hands will probably have more issues than moist/oily hands with the fps.

I dont know how y'all are doing it but I cant get it to work correctly.. it gives me error 80% of the time... Face unlock so much faster right now for me. Some of y'all took the screen protector off, does that make it better? I really dont want to take the screen protector off.

I either I have to keep my finger on the sensor I few minutes to register on press firmly on it for my phone to unlock.

It's just very slowly on mine. It works about 90% of the time but takes forever to unlock the phone. That's with the original screen protector

I have yet to have any issues with the FPS and stock screen protector. It could be a tad faster, but it's not too bad. I got the update as soon as I turned on the phone.

I had trouble with it at first but as I've used the phone more I've gotten used to the placement and it unlocks probably between 80 and 90 percent of the time.

I was having a hard time getting it to work. Then after watching some reviewers on YouTube I tried a few different things and now it's working for me 99% of the time.
Placement I think was my biggest problem. Once you get used to where you have to put your thumb that clears up most of the miss reads your having.
I also registered my thumb three times. All three I did holding the phone differently. One with my thumb horizontal, one vertical and one at a 45 degree angle.
One other thing at first it was telling me to press harder, so I was pressing hard and holding it down for a long time. I have now found it actually works better if you press soft and quick. As long as I let go sooner it registers every time. It seems odd I hold it down with a long press it doesn't work for me.
There is definitely a big learning curve with this but I think for everyone the sensor it self is working. It's just getting used to how to make it work.

I got the AT&T update on my 512 Ceramic Black. Voila! It appears to have corrected the issue. The FPS now seems to work as easily as I'd expect. One problem though...my 128 GB Prism Black doesn't see the update yet. I'm sure it will in the next few days.

I'm relieved that they recognized there was an issue and appear to be correcting it.

That is good news. Interesting though, after all these years in development, it is released with so many having difficulty, and corrected within a week. I have to wonder if the update simply relaxes the strictness of the match requirement due to user complaints. Glad you got it working though.

I've discovered the solution to the FPS issue

Moisten your fingertip a little bit. The improvement is nothing short of dramatic. I don't understand why this would be the case, but it's like night and day. With humidity levels here in NYC trending at ~20% in the winter it occurs to me that with higher levels of humidity in the spring and summer this may improve things. But for now, just lightly moistening your fingertip that you're using essentially makes the FPS 100%accurate on the first try.

The difference is amazing. Try it out for yourself and see.

Maybe I missed it but how do you add more fingerprints without having to erase the old one? I have one setup and it doesn't work perfectly but I don't have the same issue as others. I would just like to add my other thumb and index.

I can only uncheck "Fingerprints" registered

I think the main issue is finding the sweet spot. Personally I want to keep aiming slightly lower than where the sensor actually is. That might be because I'm used to hitting the onscreen "home" button on previous samsung devices. So now that I've gotten use to it its been perfect ever since.

Just go where you set up your fingerprint and select "add". I have both thumbs and index fingers in and all of them works perfectly.

I'm downloading the update now. I have tried all of the other suggestions in the thread and none have helped. I am actually shocked when the FPS works. I don't know how many times I've seen "No Match".
