Fingerprint Scanner Not Working Well

As I posted in another post I've found that this has to do with moisture on your fingertip. If your fingertip is dry (as it's likely to be in the winter with very low humidity levels) the FPS works very inconsistently -- if at all. Just moisten your fingertip with some lotion or a bit of saliva and it works like a champ. I imagine that this won't be as much of an issue as we move into warmer weather where the humidity is significantly higher. But in the dry winter, this is going to be the solution to getting this to work. And with this, it works 95%+ of the time.

It's been discussed here in this thread for a few days....not the saliva part

Re: I've discovered the solution to the FPS issue

Yeah, this was discovered back on the 6th.

Well, apparently a lot of folks remain unaware of this as they are still having huge problems with the FPS. If they knew about the "moistness fix" this would be a non-issue by now.

Re: I've discovered the solution to the FPS issue

It seems like the more you use the more it recognizes it. Like you have to train it. I have been using the past day and now it works flawlessly. Took a day to get it trained though.

Where are you seeing these people? Most people don't see moisturizer as a fix. It's more like a bandaid. If you look through the other fingerprint thread you'll see that there are other solutions and it's working better for most people. Some due an update.

No insult intended. We are just pointing out that there is already a discussion on this in the FPS thread.

Re: I've discovered the solution to the FPS issue

The humidity makes some since.... I am in Florida and it is significantly more humid even when it is dry here.... Glass phones are never slippery to me like they are to many people.

Adaptive fingerprint recognition is not built in to the Samsungs. Chances are you are better at it or the update if you have it has fix things.

What other "solutions?" I've tried everything else, and none of them work. So, for now, while hardly an elegant fix, it's the one that resolves the problem until something better comes up. As to what other people are having trouble with the FPS -- you have to be kidding me -- it's the central theme of almost every reviewers' criticism(s).

I'm not kidding you....look through the other thread which is more current than the reviewers criticisms.

I hold my thumb down until it unlocks. If I don't do that it will not work. Like I said. I was using g itvall day yesterday and as the day went on it got better and better.

I did put the Whitestone Dome Tampered Glass Screen Protector on. I don't think that would make a difference though.

So you are suggesting that pretty much everyone has found a solution to the inconsistent FPS issue? That'll be news to a whole lot of people.

Re: I've discovered the solution to the FPS issue

Ah...an added benefit. :D

But son of a gun if it doesn't work like a charm. Until Samsung offers an update to address this "dry finger" issue, this is what I'll be doing.
I don't see why they don't just add a little spray nozzle at the bottom of the screen that shoots a little moisturizer onto your finger as you approach the FPS. Problem solved.

LOL Good point! :)

Right....but it's not learning. Only the new One Plus phone which uses optical scanning and the Pixel phones which use a capacitive sensor have that capability.

I pointed you to the other thread. There's lots of duscussion about what works and doesn't work in there including a discussion on the update which has fixed things for a lot people.

Re: I've discovered the solution to the FPS issue

I think whatever you have to do make it work right for you , by all means use that method.

Re: I've discovered the solution to the FPS issue

I'm with Verizon and we haven't gotten that update. Just a little security update that had nothing to do with the FPS.

My guess is that the dryness issue had not to do with the amount a dry finger slides in the screen than the moisture making a better contact or plumping the fingerprint.

Did you reprogram your fingers after Whitestone ?

Re: I've discovered the solution to the FPS issue

Other question... Does the Whitestone feel like the naked device?

I wonder if anyone will accidental put the Whitestone on top of the plastic preinstalled protector. LOL
