Fingerprint Scanner Not Working Well

Customer... Walks up to 7-11 counter, pulls S10 out of pocket, licks thumb, opens phone, swipe up for Samsung pay, licks thumb again, unlocks Samsung pay with fp to pay. Receives the receipt and leaves.

Cashier and customers in line as customer walks away after purchase subconsciously thinking... "Ewwww!" and try to avoid touching the same part of handle while leaving store lol.

$1,599.00 phone and I have to lick my thumb to unlock the damn thing.

Having to put this much effort into just unlocking your phone, something that’s done at least 100 times a day is ridiculous. Why would anyone want to put themselves through this frustration?

It’s a 1st gen product and there are a lot of kinks to iron out. Get the 10e if you don’t want to be frustrated, or stick with an older Samsung or competing product in the meantime.

Please allow me to summarize. The ultrasonic finger print sensor (US-FPS) does not play well with air -- that is to say that it can't "read" the fine lines and ridges in your fingertip unless there is more dense matter attaching the fingertip to the screen. That would be something like lotion or saliva. It doesn't work at all with a bone dry dry fingertip. It has NOTHING to do with how many times you scan the fingerprint in question, whether this is done before of after any update, how much you rotate or twist your finger during the teaching phase or the read phase, it does not "learn" your fingerprint any better with continuous use, it will not behave better if you perform a ritualistic dance prior to using this feature nor will it improve if you sacrifice a chicken to the great fingerprint god. And there's no way any updates will change or affect this because it seems to be an inherent characteristic of at least this iteration of the US-FPS HARDWARE...so don't hold your breath and keep waiting for a miracle -- it ain't gonna happen.

With all that said, the thing works like an absolute champ if your fingertip is moist -- virtually 100% of the time so long as you cover the right spot.

PLEASE, enough of this foolishness. This is just how it works. There's no further mystery or work-arounds...it is what it is so we all just need to get used to it. Used properly (at least with this iteration of the technology) it's really quite good, accurate and fast.

There is no fingerprint God....you just sacrifice the chicken, rub your fingers all over it and you're done. Cooking and eating the chicken is optional.

You have to like your face. Face recognition on the S10 is not very secure if that matters to you.

And you should register it 4 times. It will get better and faster responding to your thumb. You'll see

I have my thumb registered one time and index finger registered one time, working just fine.

On my Note 8 my current setup is my primary thumb I use registered twice, other thumb once and my middle finger for my secured folder. Gotta have one for the secured folder lol.

Does Pie still let you go straight into the secured folder from the lock screen with the specifically registered finger for that folder? Saves about 4 steps.

I mean it is easy to come in and call people trying to figure it out "foolish" when it has been out awhile now and people are learning that the cause seems to be dry skin. That doesn't mean they were foolish for trying out other aspects since no one really knew what the cause was.

The 10e is the one to get. 99% of the same features and less hassle unlocking it. Unless of course you enjoy licking your fingers all the time.

One main reason that pushed me to S10e along with flat and small screen. They got everything absolutely perfect minus the ultrasonic fingerprint sensor. Hopefully they can improve it further with software updates otherwise it's not the greatest experience.

I've had horrible luck with this FPS and today that it is raining it's working good. Maybe I should move somewhere it rains all the time or maybe Im holding it wrong ? ....

I don't know why you discount others who are actually having issues, even though you may not be. As for me, the sensor is working better with time it appears, but it is in no way fast. It is pretty slow even when it works as advertised.

I'm thinking of getting rid of my s10 and just keeping my s9 plus. This fingerprint scanner is more of a hassle than I'm willing to put up with. Way too annoying trying to get the phone to unlock using it. The trade in value for the s9 plus is the only thing making me think twice about the return though.
