Fingerprint Sensor Disappointing

So finally installed my Whitestone Dome glass protector. Redid my fingerprint. Tested a few time and so far 100% works. Worked 90-95% of the time before the protector.

Definitely better than my S10+. Faster too.

That's the first time I've heard it's better with protector. Although if you compare it to the factory that may be true. I had run my Note10+ naked and it was excellent. I'm not having any issues stock on the Ultra. I have one sitting home awaiting installation.

I was skeptical about the FPS, because while people were saying it was better for them on the s20, I remember us with problems on the s10 were gaslighted left and right that we were just "doing it wrong" or downright lying, because "it works fine for me". Anyway, my thumb is exactly same and I'm pressing exactly the same, and with just one scanned thumbprint it now works for me 100% of the time.

Did you ever try to get the S10 exchanged?
I never had major problems with S10 but it was a bit better on the Note10. The Note had the sensor further up.
I do believe the S20 records prints better especially finger tips and sides.

Just so there is some understanding here... because it seems people seem to question people that own these things and maybe think the issue is more user issue?? Please forward to the 2min 30sec mark on this video. This is from Android Central themselves. These guys play with so many phones... they should know how a FPS works and how to place their fingers and register the same finger twice and register two fingers under one config and all that. And he is still disappointed in the FPS. It's a hit or miss thing with people. It's a first gen FPS. Even in the second year they are using a first gen FPS. Hopefully the Note 20 will get the 2nd gen FPS mentioned in rumors.

You can call me a liar.
I have been to the Verizon store several times.
He said do you wash your hands a lot.
Or work outside.
Yep.
He said your hands are too dry.

On here. You are either a liar, don't know what you are doing.
Or not got it setup right.

Kinda makes you get stressed out.

I don't think anyone is calling you a liar.
Everyone is posting their personal experience. It seems some have have little to no issues while some have a lot of trouble or can't get it to record prints. I don't think anyone is lying in either direction.

I wash my hands with gojo hand cleaner to get grease off and then the new dawn platinum foam dishwashing detergent.
Trying to keep bacteria out of my body with my dirty hands.
Doc has been on my butt.

There are a number of things that can cause the FPS to be flakey including but not limited to a defective device. Every FPS technology has it's drawbacks. I work with Ultrasonic technology in the Utility industry and Ultrasound has one fatal flaw. It doesn't work well with air gaps. That's how we detect air or gas in oil where it's not supposed to be or to find oil in comparments where only air should be. It's also why they use lots of gel when they do ultrasounds in the medical industry. It also how depth finders find fish because the air in fishes gills interrupt the sonar. For the same reasons the FPS is more sensitive to dry skin because it doesn't transmit well through air gaps. Capacitive FPS will also not recognize dry skin but it has to be extremely dry like working in the cold weather. The opposite is also true, moist or wet fingertips work well with Ultrasonic FPS whereas wet fingertips don't work well with capacitive. In my opinion the usage of an Ultrasonic FPS is problematic and I personally I don't think it will work much better without reducing accuracy.

My face unlock is so unreliable I just use the finger unlock now. My finger scan works maybe 98% of the time. A couple of misses per day. My face scan failed too many times so I deactivated that.

At present, China's unique Galaxy S20 series TD1 firmware has significantly improved the fingerprint recognition experience and changed the fingerprint entry logic. This is an update worthy of your expectations.

I've been one that has had good luck with all the FPS under screen devices. I watched this video, don't know if anyone has shared it. I watched it, followed the directions and the results were amazing. Can't hurt to try it

WOW!

Big difference. Thanks for sharing. Never knew part of it is my tendency to hold my thumb too long when phone is locked. I like that it will read even when display is completely blank, although I struggle to hit where the sensor is located.

I often want to unlock the phone when it's setting on my desk or in a table without having to pick the phone up. I was really missing that feature from my S9+ but that was a pressure sensitive area and where the home icon was located.

Awesome...Using two fingers under the same finger registration made a huge difference for me.
I was happy before this video, but wow, it made a difference

I have 2 prints set up. One is for both thumbs and one is for both index fingers. Do it that way so if it's sitting on a table I can unlock it with either hand. Used to set up 4 prints, one for each finger

Great video! Thanks for sharing . I was already using 2 out of the 3 tricks. Didn't know about 2 thumbs on one print. Works like a charm. The next firmware update is supposed to improve the fingerprint even more.

So far, I like everything about the S20+ except the in-screen fingerprint sensor. The fingerprint sensor is too small and it only works about 75% of the time. The in-screen fingerprint sensor on my OnePlus 7 Pro was far superior. BTW, the S20+ still has the factory installed screen protector, as did my OnePlus 7 Pro.

My wife has a 20+ and I have a OnePlus 7T. When I was helping her set up her device the S20 fingerprint felt sluggish as the OnePlus fingerprint scanner is almost instant. And it has a larger print area. So I decided to do a speed test with her using the S20. We must have tried over fifty times to get the S20 to unlock before Oneplus. Never happened. Then we switched devices and she won everytime. The S20 was always a moment behind. No big deal but that fact will drive some Samsung folk, like my wife, into delirium. She's gonna exchange it, assuming she got a bad device. And we'll test again. Hope she survives it. Lol
