Fingerprint Sensor Failure!

Yesterday my fingerprint sensor suddenly stopped working.
I did a restart and nothing, NADA, I was relegated to using my PIN.
I then tried deleting my old fingerprint data and entering a new fingerprint.
After deleting my old fingerprint I couldn't enter a new fingerprint.
I tried dozens of times to enter a new fingerprint.
I gave up and decided to start fresh with a factory reset.
After the factory reset I was still in the same place.
Nothing worked.
I called Google.
They went through their troubleshooting ritual.
My fingerprint reader is dead.
A replacement for my P2XL will be here Friday.

Sorry to hear that! Did this happen after a system update?

That sucks. Good to hear Google is replacing it though.

These things happen ... Good thing about Google is they seem to take care of issues rather well.

So sorry this happened to you, but that's great that Google is sending you a replacement, and so quickly too!

I can't imagine it had anything to do with the January security update, but the fingerprint failure did occur about the same time. I can't recall seeing any other FPS failure reports.

The replacement will be here tomorrow. I'm hoping the replacement will have a minimal blue cast like the one I have. I'll report back with the results!

I've had my Pixel 2 XL replacement since noon. The FPS works as it should. The screen is an exact duplicate of my original, so I'm happy there too. Google Support was superb as expected!

So glad your experience turned out favourably!

It's interesting that the manufacture date of my original Pixel 2 XL was Oct 11 and the manufacture date of my replacement was Oct 18, just one week later.

Anyway, when placing the two side by side and comparing the blue tint at various angles, the tint was absolutely identical and very minimal with just a very light blue cast at extreme angles. For me that's a total non-issue. I'm very happy with my replacement and the fingerprint sensor is working beautifully!

That's great that both devices have the identical display - it would suck if the fingerprint scanner was great but the screen was less impressive!
